New Mexico's capital, Santa Fe, is a small city with big personality nestled into the Rocky Mountains. You can explore art galleries, museums, and historical buildings in the city, or escape town and explore the mountains or local hot springs. North of Santa Fe you'll find Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs where the Ojo Caliente Resort is a lush venue for weddings. For a classical wedding in Santa Fe, Loretto Chapel is a beloved destination with stunning Gothic architecture, beautiful stained glass, and a "miraculous" floating staircase. Las Cruces, in the Mesilla Valley between the Organ Mountains and the legendary Rio Grande River, offers endless natural wonders. Visit the White Sands National Monument, where you can explore 275 square miles of white gypsum sand dunes. You can "surf" the dunes, leave your footprints in the sand, or get married right there for an unforgettably white wedding. It does snow in New Mexico, with snow being most common in the north part of the state than the south. As you plan your wedding in New Mexico, keep an eye on the weather and plan for cover just in case. A summer wedding is likely to be very hot or very wet, so if you're planning an outdoor New Mexico wedding, plan on a tent. Decorate the tent with vibrant flowers in reds and pinks, echoing New Mexico sunsets. If you're planning a winter wedding, you're still likely to get sunshine, but with brisk temperatures. The New Mexico Rail Runner Express is the commuter train running through Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Folks can travel between the two cities this way, or can connect with Amtrak, Greyhound, or Rio Metro buses to travel to other areas. Albuquerque International Sunport is the state's largest airport, so folks coming in from out of state are likely to arrive here. Travel here tends to be less expensive than in other states, as does getting married in New Mexico. The average cost of a wedding in New Mexico is about ten thousand less than the national average.
A marriage license in New Mexico will cost you between $25 and $40 in cash. If you're over 24, you only need to bring your social security number and your driver's license. Anyone under 24 must provide a birth certificate or a passport. You don't need to be a resident of the state, nor is there a waiting period after you've received your license. Your New Mexico marriage license is valid for one year from the date of issue.
