The Heart of the Wedding

I am a wedding expert, author of “The Heart of the Wedding”, and a world renowned storyteller, who has officiated at hundreds of ceremonies in the NJ, NY, and NYC region. I will make your marriage vows words you and your guests will remember for the rest of your lives. At the heart of every wedding ceremony is the story of two individuals joining their lives, their dreams, their hopes, and their love; and it is the ceremony celebrating whatever your story may be – Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, South Asian, Chinese, Gay or Straight – that communicates that union to the world. As a Civil Celebrant and Interfaith Minister, I cherish the vision each couple has for their ceremony. Without imposing my choices, I help to bring your stories and traditions to life in a ceremony that is reflective of the future you imagine together. Meet with me without obligation, and hear for yourself how I can make your ceremony “The Heart of the Wedding.” Call me at 973-746-4608 or email me at email@example.com .

Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Welcome! I am an ordained, licensed interfaith minister who goes beyond traditional limits to help you create the most unique, loving, and personal wedding you have ever wanted or dreamed of. This ceremony is the cornerstone of your marriage, and it should reflect who you are, your unique relationship, and include those you love. You will be amazed and delighted by how creative you can be on this, your special day. I will work and be with you with great care and joy. I feel that the best way to know if you and your officiant are a good match is to talk in person. Rather than give you an abundance of information that you don't need or want, I will happily share my life, history, education, experience, philosophy or anything else you want to know (except my weight--yes, I will reveal my age) if you ask. What you should know about me is that I have a big warm heart, infinite creativity, and I care very much about helping you to have the most joyous and magical ceremony you can imagine. I am thoroughly capable and professional and will listen to your wishes. I can create any type of ceremony that you want, and include any spirituality, heritage, or aspect you wish to express. I am exceptionally intuitive, and I can offer many suggestions that might appeal or inspire you. My vision is expansive and all-inclusive. I see, listen, and care. I serve all people--all faiths, traditions, orientations. I have always seen what unites us at the core, rather than what separates us. What is important is the love between you, and the people you are choosing to include in your day. Every couple has their own essence, and expressing this in their ceremony is an artistic and loving endeavor. I would be honored to be your partner in creating your ceremony for your special day.

Weddings by Yael

Hello! My name is Yael Maxwell and I am a registered non-denominational officiant, licensed through the Universal Life Church and the State and City of New York, available to help create the wedding ceremony of your dreams in and around NY and CT. You have already done the hardest part...finding each other! In getting to know you as a couple, I will work with you to create a personalized ceremony full of the traditions and words you want to include and nothing that turns you off. Nothing would please me more but to have your guests walk away from the ceremony thinking they learned more about you and your relationship and to have you walk away confident in building a marriage on the foundation of the words spoken at your wedding. As such, I will meet with you in person (or on Skype if that is more convenient) to discuss the particulars of your wedding and ask you to tell your story to me so that I can learn what is most important to you. I'm a journalist by training, so I love treating the ceremony like a profile of your relationship. Of course I will be available by phone and email for any questions you may have leading up to the big day. I'm interested in all weddings big and small, formal and intimate, indoor and outdoor, and I wholeheartedly support marriage equality. Commonly asked questions: Are you willing to incorporate any religious traditions into our ceremony? Most definitely. I am Jewish, but not a rabbi, so I know more about Jewish wedding traditions than other religious traditions and would be happy to help you explain and include some of them in your ceremony. I would also be open to including traditions from other religions and backgrounds as well. Do you have a set script you follow at each wedding you perform? While I'm more than happy to provide a template and suggestions of how to fill it, I will take the time to craft every element of your ceremony so that it incorporates everything you want, and nothing you don't. What do you charge? My fee is dependent upon the timing of the reservation, wedding date, travel time (see below), and how many meetings we have, but I am happy to discuss this with you directly. I require 50% of the total fee to be paid upon reservation, and this is nonrefundable. The second half is due before the start of the ceremony ceremony. I also offer referral bonuses. Do you require premarital counseling? While I don't require it, and am not qualified to do so myself, I firmly believe that premarital counseling is a great foundation to get yourselves started on. How long are your ceremonies? This depends on the number of readings, traditions, length of vows, but somewhere between 10-30 minutes typically. Do you allow couples to write their own vows? Definitely! Nothing personalizes a wedding more than this and I'm happy to help you as you craft this vital part of your ceremony. What is your attire for the ceremony? I don't have a strict wedding outfit, but I generally stick to a navy or black dress. I would be happy to talk with you to see what you prefer. How far will you travel to my ceremony? I typically perform most weddings in NYC and Fairfield County, CT, but my fee varies depending on how long it will take me to get to your venue. For NYC weddings, there is no additional charge for any venue within a 30-minute subway ride from Grand Central Terminal ($35 travel fee for 30-39 minutes, $50 for 40-49 minutes, and $75 for 50-59 minutes). For CT weddings, there is no additional charge for any venue within 20 miles of Zip Code 06851 (Norwalk) ($35 travel fee for mile 21-34, $50 for mile 35-49, $75 for mile 50-74, and $125 for mile 75-100). If your venue is not located within an hour of GCT or 100 miles of Norwalk, CT, I'm still willing to work with you, so please contact me to discuss. Do you have a Facebook page? I do! Please visit: https://www.facebook.com/weddingsbyyael How can we get in contact with you? Please message me through Wedding Wire, email me at email@example.com or call me at 917-791-1017.

Congratulations – you’re engaged! And looking forward to a magical wedding day to launch the rest of your lives together. I am an ordained Interfaith Minister and I love helping couples create a wedding ceremony that reflects your unique personalities, spiritual beliefs and heartfelt feelings. My Master's thesis was on the power of transformative ritual, and I truly believe that weddings are the highest form of sacred play! Together, we craft a memorable, creative ceremony that elegantly (and playfully!) expresses your love for and commitment to each other. When my husband Peter and I were married in 1981, we created our own ceremony with a minister and rabbi – pretty radical idea at the time. I certainly never thought I’d be helping couples do the same, 30 years later! Sometimes the couples I work with are from different faith traditions, as Peter and I were, and want to find common spiritual ground to celebrate this most joyous of life's passages. Other times, couples are simply looking for a unique, creative way to express their love for and commitment to one another; they want someone to partner with them in creating a very personal and meaningful ceremony with little of the language, music, or visual symbols of a "traditional" wedding. And of course, I'm delighted to work with same-sex couples who want to sacralize their bond in a special way as well. In all instances, we work together to craft a simple and beautiful ceremony which blends your vision and my expertise. CREATING YOUR IDEAL CEREMONY When you decide to create your own wedding ceremony, the world's traditions are your playing field. Certainly, you can opt for a creative blend of the religions of your respective families. You may even want to have more than one officiate present to represent different faith traditions. I have co-officiated with Rabbis, Buddhist Priests, and Christian Ministers, sometimes even with 2 others! Or, you might want a contemporary ceremony which is completely original, drawing on elements and rituals from multiple traditions, including Native American, Celtic, Sufism, Islam, Earth-Centered Spirituality, Hinduism, Egyptian, to name a few. You're invited to bring all your ideas to our first planning session and we'll also draw from the resources I've compiled over the years. If you're undecided about the location for your ceremony, I have lots of suggestions in the New York metro area as well. This is your ceremony and it will be as elaborate or simple as you want it to be. ADDITIONAL WEDDING SERVICES Pre-Marital Coaching Sometimes it's helpful to have an objective third party hold the space for a couple as they contemplate the big issues of creating and sustaining a lifelong relationship. Work, family time, children, in-laws, spiritual life… these are some of the areas we can address so you can begin this new journey with confidence and excitement. This can be done in 2 or 3 informal sessions, or you might want to consider the more structured 5-week program (complete with 55-page workbook) called "Partners in Life" (PIL). For more information on this powerful program, please check the bottom of the Relationship Coaching page on my website. Bridesmaid CelebrationCircle Imagine creating a magical web of support the day before the wedding with all of the special women (and girls) in the bridal party. We create an atmosphere of sacred play, allowing them to celebrate what they love most about the bride and giving her an opportunity to thank them for all their love and support. Magical Bridal Showers These are typically arranged with someone other than the bride and provide an opportunity for her friends and family to create a truly meaningful (but still thoroughly fun) celebration for her. Sorry, I'm not giving any details here… it's a surprise, so have your Maid of Honor call me! Vow Renewals Whether you’ve been married 5 years or 25 years, renewing your marriage vows can be a powerful re-commitment to all of those promises you made when you were first married… as well as adding some important new insights you’ve gained since then! I’ve created intimate ceremonies with some couples and more elaborate ones for others as part of their larger “Happy Anniversary” festivities. As with the wedding ceremony, we tailor it to meet whatever style fits with your vision of a special anniversary celebration. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* So, if you want to create a personal, meaningful ceremony with a creative, experienced professional, please do give me a call at 212-665-9660 or email me so we can set up an FREE introductory meeting!

If you’re looking for a relationship with a rabbi who will know you by the time we stand up together at your wedding, then read on. What you’ll find here is an experience different from any other. What I do: Meet 6 times before your wedding, including 3 Shabbat dinners with 2 other couples who are going through the same process as you to discuss various marriage themes. Get together for a 6 month check in after the wedding as well as another around your first anniversary. Have the option to check in and meet twice a year for the first 3 years of your marriage. Getting married is a very exciting time—full of plans, hope and love. I work with couples to make sure that your ceremony reflects who you are while adding a meaningful component to your special day. Together, we will learn what the different parts of the wedding ceremony mean so that you and your significant other can have a most meaningful ceremony as you begin the next stage of your lives together. For me this is about a relationship. Yours and ours. Your relationship will be reflected in the ceremony and our relationship will continue long after your wedding day is over. "…he really made our ceremony so much more than we had hoped for.." "The first thing I loved about Rabbi Katz is the time he takes to get to know you..." "The ceremony was beautiful and Rabbi Katz really stole the show. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how unique and captivating it was... " "We already can't wait to continue our relationship with him way past our wedding..." A rabbi for every occasion. A relationship for life. Contact me at email@example.com or 201-410-2629.

Whatever kind of wedding ceremony you desire, we can make it happen! I very much enjoy working closely with each unique couple to create a ceremony reflecting who they are and what they want for their big day. I am very much looking forward to hearing from you, to learn more about your beautiful wedding day. Let's chat on the phone, or if you are local, let's meet for tea. Whether your wedding is an impromptu affair or has been months, even years, in the making, I want to help you fashion a ceremony that is beyond your wildest dreams. Your perfect wedding reflects your history, philosophy, and creativity – as individuals and as a couple. Let’s craft a wonderful, meaning-filled ceremony that expresses he most significant aspect of your lives… one that recognizes the profound commitment you are making, as well as the sheer joy of the occasion. My Ceremonies Somehow the actual wedding ceremony is often over-shadowed by the other elements of the wedding day—dresses, flowers, food, music, venues. I work with you to bring this vitally important life ceremony front and center to the celebration. My job, working with you, is to fashion an original and unforgettable ceremony that is yours and yours alone and to deliver that ceremony to perfection. Many couples that I work with have had limited experience with creative, personalized wedding or commitment ceremonies. Most of us are exposed to standard, “cookie cutter”weddings despite our particular religious affiliation or orientation. When I collaborate with a bride and groom, I help them think beyond their prior wedding experiences. Our planning is guided by questions including the following: What do you want to evoke with this ceremony? What makes you and your partner special? How did you find one another and fall in love? What are the religious, spiritual, and intellectual touchstones in your life? How can we honor your story, your family, your history? My hope is that you find it a fulfilling experience that will help you to honor you and your partner, to share your love for the other, and to crystallize the aspects of your life—family, traditions of faith and culture, personal history—that make you unique and have brought you to this day. And with careful, heart-felt preparation the wedding ceremony will unfold into an unforgettable experience for you and your honored guests. How it Works I am delighted to speak with you about the type of ceremony you have in mind. I invite you to a complimentary meeting to discuss your vision of the day. Our initial discussion helps me get to know you and vice versa, focusing on the big picture of your personal love story and preferences for the wedding. After determining your specific needs, I provide details about my fees for the service. The heart of a celebrant led wedding is the narrative of your story. Our first project is to create that anchor for the wedding. I’ll give you a survey that will help me learn about you and your love for your partner and draft an essay of your personal story for your review. As we move through this important process, we will discuss other elements of the wedding and your desires and hopes—readings, music, and rituals or customs you wish to include (from your own tradition or others). I provide unlimited access to materials for your consideration and review, to help you think creatively about the final ceremony. I will provide you with a complete draft of your ceremony, for edits and suggestions. I will revisit the draft completing as many revisions as are necessary to meet your approval and expectations.
