I was traveling across the country for my son’s wedding and found Doris through Thumbtack. Being 3,000 miles away with no local referrals, I took a chance—and I’m so glad I did. From our first conversation, Doris was professional, warm, and incredibly responsive. I sent her photos of myself and what I was hoping for, and on the big day, she came to my hotel and worked her magic. When she handed me the mirror, I was blown away. I looked elegant, radiant, and truly beautiful—something I don’t say lightly. Throughout the wedding, strangers came up to tell me how stunning I looked. My hair and makeup held perfectly through tears, hugs, and dancing. Doris made me feel like Cinderella for a day, and I can’t thank her enough. If you’re on the fence—don’t be. Doris is a gem!

I first heard of Shade and Strand through Zola. I reached out through the Zola app early in my search and Heather let me know they were doing mini trials at a venue expo, The Thursday Club. I signed up for a short mini trial (15-30 min slot) and upon checking in to the S&S booth I was greeted with friendly faces and a very welcoming Heather! My experience at the mini trial was amazing, I got my eyes done and a quick half up hair style and that was enough to make me lock in S&S for my big day! 2-3 weeks later, I also had the opportunity to work with Heather and the S&S team at one of their internal team courses for bridal hair on curly hairstyles. Their team is so welcoming and felt like family. Again, I left confident in knowing that I made the right decision for my hair and make up team for my wedding. Come the big day, Heather was so attentive and kind to my mom, MIL , and myself. She looked at our dresses and gave input on hairstyles but ultimately listened to what we wished and felt most confident and comfortable with. For our makeup she did just the same, listened to our wishes and had us check in throughout the service and was willing to change anything we wanted or any adjustments. I cannot thank Heather enough for such an amazing morning of wedding experience! Heather and her team have my highest recommendations for any bride / bride squad looking for hair and makeup! Thank you Heather !

A friend of mine had her wedding makeup done by Glam Dolls Studio and she really recommended them! I had Yuquectzin rather than Joanna, but I do have to say, Yuquectzin was amazing! She knew exactly what I wanted and was able to make suggestions if I didn't quite know what to do. She also brought along Natalie (I'm not sure if she's a part of Glam Dolls) with her so that we would be able to finish everyone's hair and makeup in time. The bridesmaids looked absolutely fantastic! Their hair was done just as they wanted it to be and their makeup was flawless! And it lasted through the ceremony and the reception (and in hot weather!). As for me, Yuquectzin did a wonderful job! I had some reservations about creasing eyeshadow, and she was able to make it so that my eyeshadow didn't crease at all even though I was sweaty half the time! And I do have to say, I looked gorgeous on my wedding day! I would definitely recommend them!!

So so glad I booked with Taylor! She was super easy to work with and great with communicating. I have very straight, fine hair that does not curl easily and was getting disappointed when I was hunting for a hair stylist because most places suggested extensions if your hair doesn’t hold curl well. I booked my trial with Taylor and quickly knew it was the right fit. She listened to me at the trial and the day of when I wanted to adjust the style a little she rolled with it and I couldn’t have been happier. My curls held all day and night even with the humidity and lots of dancing. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Very grateful Taylor was a part of such a special day and helped me feel beautiful! My mom even goes to Taylor for her coloring now because our experience with her was so positive, highly recommend!!

Hair and makeup was the vendor I was most nervous about when we first started planning our wedding. I don’t wear a lot of makeup regularly and I was worried I wouldn’t look or feel like myself on my wedding day. Andrea was recommended to me by a friend and I am SO happy I went with her. She took into consideration how I was feeling, what I wanted the day of, and made sure to consider my skin type. She even gave me a bunch of tips at the trial on how to prep my skin and they made a huge difference. The trial itself went wonderfully and the wedding day was even better. Andrea and her extra artists were fantastic, fast, and everyone in my bridal party loved their hair and makeup. I felt so beautiful and love how I looked in all my photos from beginning to end. I cannot recommend Andrea enough and now hope I have another event in the future where I need my hair and makeup done just so I can hire her again.

Victoria was amazing to work with on my wedding day. She has such a calm, warm energy that all my nerves disappeared right away. Being with her felt so comfortable and relaxing, which is exactly what you need on such an important day. The makeup she did for me was absolutely beautiful — natural, flawless, and it lasted perfectly until late at night. My skin looked perfect in real life and in all the photos. My mom and sister also looked gorgeous, and all three of us felt confident and beautiful. Thank you so much, Victoria, for your professionalism, positive energy, and incredible talent. Pricing was very reasonable for the value of the service provided ! Highly recommend for the ease and comfort I was given throughout the process . Also , adding additional services was very easy !

I’ve been in a ton of weddings and I always end up being forced to book with the people the bride picks. The bride normally gets the experienced professional and the rest end up with a not so experienced assistant. This was the first time every person on this team was of equal caliber. Everyone was so happy! The best part, I opted out because side of previous experiences and they fit me in as an add on for both hair and makeup. Best decision ever!

Cynthia is an awesome makeup artist and did my trial and wedding day makeup. She listened to my likes and dislikes and created a look that made me feel beautiful and like myself. She is so sweet and made my experienced amazing!

Meztli is a dream to work with! She did a fabulous job with my wedding updo, and had no issue working with extensions and a lariat that I borrowed for the occasion. She has the expertise and friendly, calm, collected demeanor to make for a wonderful part of your wedding day. She also did my mom and MIL’s hair and make up, and they loved the results and getting to chat with her. They were originally a little nervous because they don’t wear much make up, but Meztli listened to what they were hoping for and they loved their results. I highly recommend Meztli for anyone looking for glam in San Diego!
