Washington DC, also referred to as "The District" or "The District of Columbia", is a world renowned location for all things cultural and political. But there's so much more to the District than politics. The nation's capital was moved to the Potomac region, which would later be renamed after George Washington, in 1790. Since then DC and its residences have stayed on trend with other metropolitan cities around the world. If you're looking at Washington DC wedding venues, finding the perfect fit should be an absolute breeze.
At only 68 square miles, Washington DC is not one of the largest areas in the US by any means, but don't let its size deter you, a Washington DC Wedding is sure to wow guests. If you and your fiancé(e) are looking for chic and modern DC wedding venues, consider a hotel, ballroom, loft, or rooftop. The DC skyline will be an amazing backdrop for downtown District weddings. If you're looking to stay closer to the ground, one of many museums in the District could be a unique and interactive venue. Though there may be more restrictions of these wedding venues compared to other that are solely for weddings.
If the fast paced style at the heart of the city isn't for you, thinking about hosting your Washington DC wedding at an historic estate, manor, or Inn. You'll be able to immerse yourself in the colonial style and the well maintained structures are sure to make any wedding moments amazing. Trying to get out in nature, the Potomac River cuts through Washington DC and its banks are the perfect place for a more outdoorsy and rustic wedding style.
Before booking a venue for your DC wedding, you should know what kind of weather to expect. Washington DC has a humid continental climate, which means hot humid summers and cold, potentially snowy, winters. It's always a place that experiences all four seasons. That can totally be used to your advantage when deciding your wedding color palette. For a spring Washington DC wedding, incorporate light pastel colors and consider including Japanese Cherry Blossoms in your bouquet to go along with the annual festival. For summer weddings, mint and coral are great colors to use for a riverside DC wedding. You could also include the American Beauty Rose, the District's official flower. For fall District weddings, consider using the bright natural colors that come with the changing leaves. And for winter, you can go with the always classic warm reds, golds, and silvers for a warm and cosy vibe.
Your wedding budget is going to be a huge part of any wedding. A Washington DC wedding is just a few thousand dollars over the national average, costing couples around $300 a guest. Though having a smaller wedding with fewer guests will cut the cost. It's also important to note that the farther you move from the city and into the surround suburbs, the total cost for your Washington DC wedding will go down. As DC has a ton of cultures residing in one place, a Washington DC caterer should be able to create whatever food you desire. Though if you decide on chicken wings, they better come with Mumbo Sauce.
When everything's booked, you'll still need a marriage license for it to be official. To get a marriage license in the District, one of the two parties must fill out a marriage license applications and have legal IDs for both parties (i.e. driver's license, birth certificate, passport). Both parties must be over the age of 18 or 16 with consent of a parent or guardian. The application will cost $35 and the certificate of marriage fee is $10, both must be paid in cash. Once the license is issued it won't expire.
