The Sedgeley Club began with a group of Philadelphia women who enjoyed biking and canoeing in the Schuylkill River. After their adventures, they wished for a place to relax, have tea and store their bikes. In 1887, The Park Commission allow the women to build around the lighthouse. The boathouse later opened in 1903 where you could store your bike overnight for 10 cents. The main floor of the building is now used for weddings and rehearsals.

We rented Sedgeley Club for our wedding rehearsal dinner. My husband and I were looking for a venue for the dinner for quite some time. Most places in the city have high rental prices and/or very rigid catering rules. It was hard for us to create the experience we wanted for our close friends and family. As soon as I read the story about Sedgeley’s founding and took a tour of the space, I was hooked and we knew it was the place for us. Right on the water on historic boat house row, it’s stunning inside and out. It features a large enclosed porch overlooking the water. We were in awe.Sent on 06/11/2018
The team that manages Sedgeley was very easy to work with. They were flexible with us every step of the way. We ended up hiring three host helpers to serve food and bartend. We ordered from a local restaurant and got it delivered to Sedgeley house and bought our own wine, liquor and beer. This really kept costs down – probably saving us half the cost of going with a traditional catering service at other venues.
Our guests loved it! The views of the city and Schuylkill River from Sedgeley house are spectacular. It felt very homey and comfortable and lent itself to a fabulous dinner for family and friends. Highly recommend it!

We could not have found a better venue for our reception. The Sedgeley Club is on Boathouse Row, right on the river. It only seats 60 people, or 90 for a cocktail reception. It does not allow dancing as it is an historical building. But the beauty of the building and the views are enough to keep guests enjoying their time. We were told by many of our guests that ours was one of the best weddings they had been to. No one seemed to miss the dancing.Sent on 02/19/2008
