For those interested in the history of the Old West, Montana is everything you're looking for, plus endless beauty for your Montana wedding.
Billings, Montana's largest city, is the entryway to Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and more. Like all of Montana, you won't have to go far to find natural beauty, but Billings has all the comforts of a city, too. For the best of both at your Montana wedding, consider the Billings Depot. This striking building was originally the heart of Billings and the restored Montana wedding venue has two indoor spaces to offer, as well as outdoor areas for your event.
Bozeman, nicknamed "the most livable place," is a natural wonderland. Here, you can mountain bike, rock climb, fly-fish, ski, and explore the land in Big Sky Country. After you've gotten your fill of the great outdoors, you can escape back to town to enjoy Bozeman's artistic community. If you want to be married in the heart of nature, consider the Gallatin River Hideaway. This 88-acre ranch is just outside the city, but feels removed from the hustle and bustle. Offering two pavilions for your Montana wedding, you'll feel the embrace of the forest for the wedding of your dreams.
Whitefish, one of the nation's top ski destinations, is a remarkable town at the base of Big Mountain and alongside Whitefish Lake. In the winter, visitors flock to ski at Whitefish Mountain Resort, while summer brings visitors on their way to nearby Glacier National Park. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is a beautiful venue right on Whitefish Lake for your Montana wedding. Including outdoor tents and over 8,000 square feet of indoor banquet space, The Lodge provides everything you and your guests could need in beautiful surroundings.
As anyone who's driven through it knows, Montana is big, and any state with diverse geography also has diverse weather. The west side of Montana is covered in mountains and valleys, while the east side features plains with rolling hills and the occasional mountain. It's drier in the east, with more variance in temperature, while the west has wetter, milder temperatures of the Pacific Northwest. Regardless, Montana experiences all four seasons, and the beauty of the state is evident no matter what the weather. Meaning you can allow Montana's regal splendor to inspire your wedding décor in any season. A winter wedding in Montana can showcase the comfort of a winter lodge. For a stylish, modern twist, incorporate flannel in your table linens with warm wood, evergreen branches, and rustic candles. A summer wedding can include the colors of the woods-greens and browns, with pops of bright blue or coral. Use potted local herbs as your centerpieces and fabrics with texture like muslin or burlap for an earthy feel.
Local food in Montana is the way to go, and you'll find all kinds of delicious fare around the state. Try game meats, like local elk burgers or bison meatballs, for a unique and healthy meal. If you're looking for fresh, seasonal treats, Montana's huckleberries, flathead cherries, and morel mushrooms can't be beat. And, for the truly adventurous, Montana's famous Rocky Mountain oysters are a must-try. Whether you choose to go with local cuisine or branch out for your Montana wedding, a Montana catering company can help you customize your menu for your tastes and budget. But don't forget about music! Big Sky Country begs for live music, and a Montana wedding band can play the right music to keep toes tapping at your Montana wedding.
Due to Montana's size, you'll likely fly in. There are several airports servicing Montana, so your guests are guaranteed to find a way to your wedding in Montana. Billings Logan International Airport is the largest airport in the state, but Bozeman Yellowstone International, Great Falls International, Glacier Park International, and Missoula International all bring visitors in from all over the world. Those driving through will be rewarded with incredible scenery and can stop at Visitor Information Centers for additional travel information. As you travel through, keep in mind that Montana has no sales tax, but does impose a "bed tax" of 4% on overnight lodging. Some areas also impose resort taxes as well, so factor these in as you plan your trip.
A marriage license will cost you $53 in Montana and you'll both need to provide your Social Security number, a government-issued ID, a birth certificate, and the full names and birthplaces of your parents. You don't need to be resident, but non-residents must apply for the license in the county in which they'll be married. There is no waiting period in Montana and, once issued, the marriage license is valid for 180 days.
