After posting all engagement pics to your social media pages, it’s time to start thinking venue. Choosing your wedding venue is one of the very first steps in the wedding planning process, and it will affect nearly every aspect of your wedding-related decisions. New York City residents are in luck. The Big Apple is filled with a huge variety of wedding venues that can fit nearly any type of wedding vision and, more importantly, any type of wedding budget. With so many New York City wedding venue options to choose from, where do you begin?
Sometimes it can feel like New York City almost has too many wedding venue options, but before you give up and decide to host your wedding in the lobby of your apartment building, know that there are a few effective ways to cull your list.
First, think broadly about what type of New York City wedding venues you want. Do you like the idea of exchanging vows in a classy hotel, or how about a stately mansion, or a beautiful church? New York’s boroughs are also home to many wonderful parks and gardens, one-of-a-kind restaurants, and unique venues that will make your wedding unforgettable, including zoos and museums.
Once you decide on a certain type of venue, start thinking about where you want your wedding to be. Maybe Staten Island is a little too far for you and guests to travel, but Brooklyn and Queens are still in the running.
From here, it’s time to look to your guest list. The number of guests you want to invite will impact which venues you can consider, especially if you’ve always dreamed of a large wedding. Most restaurants, for example, have limited space. That makes them perfect for intimate gatherings but not so great if you have 150 people on your list and counting.
The cost of your wedding venue will be among the biggest price tags of your wedding, so it helps to have a clear wedding budget in mind before you begin your venue search. Knowing your budget ahead of time will also help you eliminate expensive venue options and keep you from making decisions with your heart that will cause future suffering to your bank account.
Your wedding venue in New York doesn’t have to break the bank. If you’re willing to travel a little off the beaten path, you can discover mid-range hotels, banquet halls, and restaurants that can keep your costs under control while offering you a beautiful space to say “I do."
You may also be able to save money by hosting your wedding during the week or booking during the off-season. Winter weddings in New York can be magical, as long as you ensure the venue has good heating.
Ask your wedding coordinator for venue recommendations or check out all our great New York City wedding venues right here on WeddingWire.
