I'm known as being talkative. But Clara's cake for us left me speechless. When I finally came to, all I could manage was "that can't be OURS," "there's no way someone did that for US." But, she did. She outdid herself. Let me tell you about Clara. She's personable, easy-going, creative, and, apparently, clairvoyant. You can give her a jumbled mess of ideas for your "dream" and she seems to see inside your left-brained head and create *exactly* what you wanted. Our cake was delicious. Don't get me wrong. It was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted (choco with nutella filling. to kill and die for...). But frankly, we hire wedding cake people not just to satisfy a sweet tooth, but to knock socks off. And not just our socks, but the socks of our most judgmental guests. Clara can do that. She can knock your socks off. I sent her an invitation sample of ours, and she *matched perfectly* the fondant icing. She then replicated the gold leaf motif with gold swag molds on the icing. It was PERFECT. Not an iota of anything out of place. Regarding fondant, one more thing: hers doesn't taste like crap. When I first called her, I was a bit nervous, because I hate fondant. I have been married once before, and that cake maker (who shall remain nameless), made us an icky, ugly confection, and to this day, guests from that event joke about how bad the fondant was. Not Clara's. She assured me that first day that hers is imported, and had a Tootsie Roll quality to it. I admit I didn't really believe her, but I adored her from that first day, so I didn't really care. Turns out you can add to the list of incredible things "Clara is" -- truthful. Her fondant DOES taste more like a Tootsie Roll than shoe leather. And it's actually good. She was straight-up with me that using gold paint or whatever she used was a bit more expensive, as was her fondant. She didn't hide the ball with stupid fees and surcharges and costs. She gave me a contract with all the "t"s crossed and line-items filled in, and it had one quote and that's what we paid. And that price? FAIR. More than fair. 100% affordable, worth it, fair. Clara is also not pretentious. She might make the celebrity-worthy cakes, but she would never let you know that. Thank God, then, her work speaks for itself. I mark hiring Clara's Designer Cakes as one of the SMARTEST decisions I made planning this wedding (I'd say "the" smartest, but there is the groom, after all.)

So, it looks like I can speak again. And I rambled. But I need to impress upon brides how outstanding, how extraordinary, how jaw-droppingly, breath-takingly, freaking AMAZING Clara and her cakes are. PLEASE, PLEASE hire this woman. She needs to be famous. She's seriously THAT good.

My experience with Clara's Designer Cakes was first class from start to finish. Being from Boston and having our wedding in Maryland, we were never able to meet with Clara in person or have a tasting! We got in touch with Clara after getting a recommendation from our caterer. I was super nervous doing all my planning from a distance, but Clara put me at ease right from the beginning. After speaking with her and viewing the amazing gallery on her website, we decided to ask her to make our wedding cake. Clara was professional, patient, and super talented! When our wedding day finally arrived, we could not believe how beautiful our cake was. It was exactly what we wanted and more perfect than we could have imagined. To really top things off, the cake was DELICIOUS! We got so many compliments from our guests! If I had it to do over I would not hesitate to work with Clara again...she really is the best!

I absolutely LOVED my wedding cake! Clara made sure to incorporate all the details I wanted. I gave her a swatch of fabric and she matched it to my color scheme exactly. The cake was really delicious both fresh and moist. We wanted a passion fruit filling and didn't see it on her list of flavors but she was happy to fulfill our request. It was better than we could have imagined. People kept asking for seconds. Our cake included several flavors throughout, but my favorite was the carrot cake. It's the best I have ever had. If you want a real designer cake, I highly recommend her. She's great to work with and really does an outstanding job. The cake was flawless and looked like those you see in wedding magazines. Excellent service and very professional.

Clara was nothing but wonderful throughout the entire process. We met her at a wedding show, and from the very beginning she was kind and professional. During our consulation, she helped me design the perfect cake for my wedding, down to the very last detail. I have heard before that a wedding cake can be delicious or beautiful, but not both. This was far from the truth with Clara's cake. It was moist and delicious, and stunningly beautiful. To this day, I continue to get compliments on how wonderful the cake was that day. It may seem pricey, but I can promise you that it's worth it. As a guest at many previous weddings, I can tell you that there is nothing worse than a nasty cake. Clara's cakes are definitly worth it!

Clara provided us with the exact vision we had for our wedding cake! It was absolutely breathtaking and I was told by most everyone at our reception that it was the most beautiful cake they had ever seen. Clara transported our cake over 3 hours and it was in perfect condition. Flawless work! Would recommend her to anyone that wants a glamorous and stunning wedding cake!

Not only was my cake BEAUTIFUL, it was also the best cake I've ever tasted in my entire life. Clara is fantastic to work with and is an exceptional baker. She is very friendly and very professional. I will never eat cake again, unless it's hers.

When my husband and I decided on a design for our wedding cake, we knew that we had to have someone that had extraordinary detail and major design experience. Clara took our intricate idea and made it work for the number of people attending our wedding and the overall appearance of the wedding cake. She not only exceeded our expectations of design, but the cake tasted amazing as well! It outperformed any other cake that we had done tastings for. There was no one better for the job!

Our cake is still being talked about more than a month after our wedding. The presentation was outstanding and more than we expected. Clara is the best, the tasting was just a small understanding of the service to come. We were exceptionally please with our cake, the service and the setup. We cannot describe in words how happy we were. We recommend her to everyone we meet, especially the carrot cake :)

Clara is so awesome and very professional. As a bride-to-be, you are always nervous and anxious and she made me feel so comfortable. At my rehearsal dinner I surprised my husband, finace at that time, with a grooms cake. Clara did such a good job that he loved it so much that he didn't want to cut it!! Our wedding cake was gorgeous! We received so many compliments. Even one of the staff members at the venue where we held our ceremony and reception said that we had one of the most gorgeous cakes that she had ever seen!! We are truly grateful to Clara for playing a part in making our day so unforgettable!!! Thanks Clara!!

My husband and I both love carrot cake and with us getting married in the Fall, we knew we had to find the perfect one! We contacted multiple bakers who didn't seem very interested in making a carrot cake and even charged extra for it, if they even offered it at all. We met Clara at a bridal show in Frederick and she informed us that not only did she make carrot cake, it was her specialty! She provided a sample on the spot and brought tears to my husband's eyes so we immediately knew she would have to be the one to make our wedding cake! Clara was very knowledgeable, professional, flexible, fun, creative, affordable and an absolute joy to work with the whole way through :) We didn’t have to worry about a thing…she created the most gorgeous, delicious cake and even beautifully decorated the table. Clara is awesome and we would highly recommend her services!

I would recommend Clara's Designer Cakes to anyone and everyone. In fact, I have since recommended Clara's to two of my friends weddings this year. The cake was gorgeous..and we all know, that second to the bride, people most look at the cake. Clara's also did our grooms cake, which was an Orange amplifier. I'm pretty sure it was the highlight for my husband, he stood with the cake a lot of the night! The time and effort and extra care Clara took to perfectly replicate the grooms cake was above and beyond.
Also, the cake was as delicious as it was beautiful. Clara helped with everything and made the entire process easy and smooth. I feel like I made out like a bandit!! I should have paid double!! Good luck ladies, but this decision in a no brainer.

Clara worked so hard to create the end product we wanted. The result reflected her effort. The cake was fantastic looking and tasting. Our guests loved it. Clara is an artist and our cake was beautiful and delicious. Very responsive and eager to please her customers. Definitely value for the money here--our cake was BIGGER than expected.
