what gifts are you getting the parents
FH and I decided to split the work. He is getting for the guys and I for the females. We are paying for a church wedding and reception on Friday but I family is paying for the African ceremony on Saturday. I don't know what to get his mom. I plan to make a clutch out of fabric from my dress.

We got his mom a bracelet that has a mini picture from of FH as a baby, and on the other side a picture of me, him & FH's daughter. We got his step-mom a sandollar necklace with her initial, and my mom we got a necklace that has the March birthstone, the November birthstone & February birthstone. March = wedding month November = my birthday and February = her birthday.

His Dad we are giving a picture after the wedding.

This is on my to do list --- I have gotten my girls almost all of their gifts. FH is going to do the guys and I have no clue what to do for our parents!

I like the bracelet idea Lizz. I'll look for something like that. I wasn't doing anything for the step parents tho. My dad just got married about 3 years ago and she's just a few years older than me and I don't want to get something for my mom's husband and not my dad's wife. I'll get each couple a wedding book post wedding tho.

Great ideas!

All of our parents chipped in for our wedding.

H gave his dad a special bottle of cognac.

I gave my dad a picture frame/clock from Things Remembered. I put a picture of us in it from when I was a baby and engraved it with a nice quote.

I gave my mom a Vera Bradley travel bag.

And then we gave handkerchiefs to each others' parents that read, "Thank you for raising your son/daughter to be the husband/wife of my dreams ~ Love, Kris/H ~ April 28, 2012"

Honestly, I think the handkerchiefs were the biggest hit. Especially my parents love sentimental stuff more than anything. :)

We made them deluxe hardcover photo books after the wedding, with slipcovers to keep them safe. They came out fabulous and both sets of parents really liked them.

We also made these platters (inspired by Etsy) where we each wrote a short note to each set of parents using a special marker pen then baked it in so it's permanent. Got them stands to display them on, this is one of my favorite DIYs.

@Combay, I hear ya! FH lived with Dad and Stepmom throughout high school, so he wanted to include her.

I found the bracelet on etsy. It is so pretty! I'll have to make sure we get pictures with it... NEXT WEEK! eeeeeee!!

Reenski, those plates are one of my fave gift ideas I've ever seen on this site. :)

If anybody is into those hankies, I used the etsy seller Elgies. She was AWESOME.

Thanks, Kris! I was going to use the Etsy seller that Kirst showed us all one here, but ended up finding out about these pens -- same effect, 1/4 the cost (so we could spend more money on other gifts for our parents.)

My MIL definitely teared up when she got it, it's displayed in their living room right now along with their Christmas gift -- a double photo frame with a picture of us with them from the wedding day on one side and an invitation on the other side.

We're giving our parents the gift of not living in sin anymore. Does that count?

I made these for both sets of parents! (inspired by Etsy) I did the creativity and labor and Steve signed it. I showed them to my aunt and she loved them!

@Anne! THAT!! That's the other thing I want to make for my parents! You did a tutorial, right? Did I ask you about the frame mounted on the wood board, how you did that?

I've not mounted the frame yet because that will be for a wedding picture. My plan is to detach the stand on the back of he frame and use wood glue, after inserting a picture... follow directions on bottle- I think it will say something like "apply pressure for 1 hour, keep flat for 48 hours" (or something like that.)
Here is a picture of them in progress. and yes, I did a post about it earlier. I used mod podge to affix the images and cut up specialty papers.

*TRY on a scrap or small piece of wood first! All layer to fully dry (1 hour should work) before adding more!*

Message me if you have questions about this- I can't seem to keep up with these forums, and need to get on with an assignment for next week. I'll check on here later.

My parents got married when they were both 23 years old, and they were both in graduate/law school and couldn't take a honeymoon other than 1-2 days...so FH and I found out what they did for their "mini-moon" and we basically booked the same hotel room, got them reservations at the same restaurant, and a boat ride....Basically we are giving them the gift of re-enacting their "mini-moon". I hope they like it!

FH doesn't have parents (his father died when he was little, and his mother died 3 years ago), so my parents are covering everything and acting as his parents too, so we both pitched in to give them a second honey moon :-)
