Porta Potties?

MrsJackson, on July 26, 2018 at 3:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 64

So I'm getting married on my grandparent's farm in the middle of nowhere. They have to use a septic tank because the city doesn't have plumbing out that far.

Does anybody think it would be gross/tacky to have porta potties at the wedding?

I don't think there's any other choice, because there's going to be about 100 guests at the wedding. If everyone used the one septic tank, the last thing I need is for it to burst..

From what my mom told me (she looked into the company), they can do "cute" pink and blue potties. Also, they can provide a portable sink.

I just don't want any of my guests to be grossed out lol.

This is a popular thing for weddings like yours. There are apparently high end ones that people on here rave about. I wouldn't mind it as long as it wasn't just a regular one with that awful fake smell

It is gross but if if it is your only option, I think that is totally fine. Can you get those fancy porta potties that have hard wood floors and proper stalls - mabye that will help with the gross factor?

I just remember that one episode of four weddings where they had porta potties...and the other three brides weren't expecting it.

Yes, I would be grossed out. Portapotties are gross anytime but, especially when I'm all dressed up for a wedding. I could care less what color it is.

Can you look into renting a trailer bathroom? I'm not sure of the specifics but, I believe they are full stalls with a flushing toilet and working sink similar to a normal bathroom. This is probably your best bet.

I think that'd be pretty expensive and we're already at the max on our budget, plus finding those in the middle of nowhere is going to be hard.

I think your guests will appreciate having more than one bathroom available and not having a septic catastrophe at the wedding. I think it's also thoughtful toward your grandparents who would have 100 guests coming in and out of the house to use the restroom and likely need to have the septic system pumped after such a high volume of use from people who may not be familiar with setpic systems. I honestly think you are being wise in considering that option.

My venue invested in a restroom trailer with 3 stalls - each with a sink inside. Might be good to look into pricing for that.

That’s a normal thing, we were going to get one when we were considering a backyard wedding. It doesn’t have to be a port-a-potty like the ones you see at construction sites or at outdoor concerts or anything lol, I feel like when people hear that word that’s the general association, but you can actually rent very nice portable bathrooms. Google image search for “portable bathroom trailer” and you’ll see what I mean. They’re very nice and not at all tacky!

My advice would be to rent one of these and put a ladies sign or gentleman sign on each door.

But this all comes with a farm wedding, so i would dig deep and cut other things to be able to provide a bathroom trailer. Portapotties are gross and don't have Ac or heat and bathroom trailers have all the comforts of home.

I just looked into the portable trailers and it's almost $1400!

Port-a-potties are gross, no matter what color they are. I would really, really suggest putting some effort into finding a trailer bathroom to rent.

If not, I would pump the septic tank before and after the event.

I'd just be worried that it would burst in between with so many guests, and I feel bad asking someone to do that for me.

I think if it's a super casual wedding normal port o potties are fine.

If people are dressing up in any way then I think they are not going to want to go to the bathroom in a port o potty. (I am a runner and very used to using port o potties, but if I'm in a dress I'm going to not be very happy about it).

It's hard though, we were going to do an out door reception had a beautiful lake and area for it however there was only 1 restroom and would have been 150-200 people. Free venue but we opted for a different location solely based on the bathroom issue.

It should be laid back, FH is wearing nice jeans and a vest and BMs are wearing short dresses.

Since it is laid back then it should be fine. It seems very common now. There was a wedding recently that had them for their laid back country wedding. Smiley smile

I'd get the trailer. I'd make it work. I use portapotties all the time, and I'd not want to be doing it in a wedding dress. And if you come back to say that YOU will have access to the indoor toilet, but not your guests, well...

I don't really care about myself going in the porta potties. Now if they were being used for a few days beforehand and I had to use one that was utterly disgusting, then I'd care.

All my guests (should) be fairly clean people.
