Porta Potties?

I don't think there's any other choice, because there's going to be about 100 guests at the wedding. If everyone used the one septic tank, the last thing I need is for it to burst..

From what my mom told me (she looked into the company), they can do "cute" pink and blue potties. Also, they can provide a portable sink.

I just don't want any of my guests to be grossed out lol.

Haha I mean as a guest, would I be thrilled about it? No. But would I understand? Yes.

And would I LEAVE THE WEDDING or NOT ATTEND over this? Absolutely not!

My apologies if this has already been said... I don't have time to read all of the comments.

OP a bathroom trailer would be very nice but I'm pretty sure they need hookups just like an RV which I doubt you have access to. The porta potties should be empty and perfectly clean when they get dropped off so I can't see how they could become disgusting during your wedding. Letting all of your guests use the septic will absolutely cause problems. Septic works by keeping the bacteria levels correct. That many people using the bathroom will result in more waste than the good bacteria can handle before the smell escapes. People that aren't used to septic may flush tampons or something that shouldn't go into septic. I think porta potties are absolutely the right way to go and nobody I know would skip any event they wanted to go to just because of not having a fancy bathroom.

Another thought I had is that if you have to have the septic pumped after your wedding, the tanker truck will mess up your grandparents yard getting to it. You can have the porta potties dropped off more at the edge of the property where they won’t be in any wedding photos, and I’m sure your grandparents will appreciate the yard close to their house not being messed up. So don’t let anybody convince you you need something other than porta potties.

Honestly, this setup is much more common at rural weddings than people think, especially when you’re dealing with limited plumbing and a large guest count. With around 100 guests, protecting the septic system is actually the responsible call, and modern portable restrooms have come a long way. The nicer units with good ventilation, solid lighting, and proper servicing don’t feel anything like the old “festival porta potty” stereotype. Adding handwashing stations and a bit of decor around the exterior (lighting, greenery, signage) usually makes a big difference in how they’re perceived.

Since you’re already thinking about guest comfort and septic load, getting input from a plumbing and fixture specialist such as Dupont Kitchen & Bath Fixtures in the middle of planning can help you figure out practical handwashing sink setups and low-impact water solutions that won’t overwhelm a rural septic system. They often deal with fixtures and water flow considerations that translate well into temporary event setups, especially for situations where traditional plumbing just isn’t available.

At the end of the day, guests tend to remember how well things are managed rather than what the restroom situation technically was. If anything, a clean, well-maintained “luxury” portable setup is usually way more appreciated than risking a septic issue mid-event.
