If you do a bouquet toss, it helps to pair that with a garter toss. Otherwise, it is sort of imbalanced. The garter toss can be done also with alternative approaches if it seems too much for you. Another consideration is if you have enough singles attending, especially around your age, so that no one is standing alone for these.

The fun and sometimes cringe part for others is the promotion of unwed guests in a token fashion toward marriage. Some friends may enjoy this even if they know not to take it seriously. So the decision can be based on what you like and what your friends would enjoy.

At least there are more options available if you are acceptable to the idea of doing the garter toss.

We will not be doing a bouquet toss or a garter toss.

Cringe. Unless you come from a tradition that includes a noisy charivari, kidnapping/stealing the bride, etc. - throwing a garment as implicitly intimate as a garter may be appropriate if the groom also tosses his high school jock strap.

I’m not doing a bouquet or garter toss. Garter toss would make me uncomfortable, if we’re being honest. I feel like it’s an intimate moment between you and your spouse.

There is no real rule that says you have to do a garter toss. The only etiquette guideline associated with it is that it should not be lewd or tacky, but simply removed (which is why it’s traditionally recommended to wear it just above the knee).

Fewer couples are including the bouquet and garter toss in their receptions these days, but in the end, you do you. The real determining factor is how you and your partner feel about it.

I say nay. I think it’s a somewhat gross tradition because of what it is supposed to represent. We’re not even doing the traditional bouquet toss, ours is going to be all women instead of just single women.

I'm not tossing my bouquet nor getting my gater tossed.
