I am supposed to have my wedding here in 2016. Clearly, with Mr. Singh's indictments the Waters Edge may not be open. They refuse to refund me any money. It is completely appalling that an alleged criminal can get away with now ruining a special day and extorting money to pay for his crime.
Water's Edge used to be fantastic. Since September, everything is in shambles and the way they are treating customers is horribly unprofessional. Anyone looking to book should google Water's Edge and the owner's name, H. Singh, before making a decision.
When we saw the article from Gothamist that came out on Friday 10/25, we panicked. We went to the restaurant immediately and spoke with the person in charge at that point. The staffs reassured us that everything will be fine and our wedding will still be held on Sat 10/3/15. Trust me, I cried every night for a week worrying that the wedding was not going to happen as planned or the restaurant won't be operating. We went to the venue everyday and spoke with Asif, the new manager, Paul, the new matre'd everyday and Scott, the head bartender everyday. Sometimes even twice a day to make sure they have enough staffs, food and liquor for our wedding. They all understood our concerns and promised us that they will do whatever it takes to make sure our wedding will run smoothly. I also cried about the construction outside which blocked half of the view. There is nothing the restaurant could do. Paul did speak with them to have them lower the cranes before the day of our wedding. We were so disappointed but we understood that they did try their best. We were just praying for the sun to go down early because you can't really see it at night.
Up to the day of the wedding, the groomsmen went there at 10am to ensure the restaurant was operating. We felt relieved, when my husband met and knowing the ceremony and all the tables were set up. Everyday since the article came out, we had a back up plan to have a shot gun wedding in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown if things didn't happen as promised.
The wedding turned out way better than I expected. The food was amazing. We received so many compliments on the cocktail hour food and everyone who had the seabass told us the fish was hot and cooked perfectly! Paul and Asif went out of their way to make sure everything was running smoothly. People have always warned me that things will not happened as planned for every wedding. I have to say. My wedding was perfect. My husband and I had no complaints. **see Yelp for full review**
For disclosure, my husband and I are posting this on several wedding sites, so people can be warned about Water's Edge, and get a sense of the great disappointment we had due to their lack of professionalism.
A wedding on a hot summer day shouldn't lead to disaster, but Water's Edge mispresented their facility and operations to handle such a situation. We were seduced by the view and expected a similar level of service, but they did not live up that to that. They have a serious problem with untrained staff and poorly maintained infrastructure. On our wedding day granted it was hot, the outside temperature in the mid 90's -- but this is something you would expect the venue to be able to handle! Summer days in the 90s are not unusual. But they didn't turn on the A/C until a little before the time the guests arrived. And it's not even that the A/C broke, Water's Edge said it was working at full power the whole time. But the rooms never got cool, and our guests were sweating profusely throughout the ceremony and reception. The staff kept saying they were working on it but we didn't see any real results. They diverted all the A/C air to the main dining room, but as a result the bridal room and hallways were unbearable; and as the day proceeded, even the maitre d' asked, Why is the temperature still going up?
So I think Water's Edge is basically saying this is what you will get. They aren't going to make the A/C capital investments, and they're not going to turn on the A/C a few hours early to save on electric bills. There were other hints, like the fact that the elevator was balky both times we went to visit, and there were other online postings about roaches underneath the table in the restaurant. Granted that the restaurant and events are handled by different people, but both represent the Water's Edge brand, and are part of the same corporate Singh Hospitality Group. And our dealings with the corporate team afterwards were disappointing as well, to say the least.
The worst possible place to go. Management does not care about the guests. They have no respect for decent human behavior. They attempt to screw you over in every little detail. They smashed the back windshield of my car, admit guilt say they will pay for it and ignore the bills that they are given. Do not go here for anything. Management does not care about decent human behavior.
Beautiful venue but I would not book again. They are overpriced for what they provide & the coordiator was not helpful even the day of the wedding. During setup she was not available to ask questions & would not resond to texts & emails. So frustrating! they need to make more improvements.
Kathy was outstanding and the bridal attendant Mildred was phenomenal. The Chilean Sea Bass was a great hit. Everything went about as well as possible. Water's Edge knows how to set up a party
I have so many wonderful things to say about Water's Edge, but unfortunately, very little space to talk about just how perfect they made our wedding on January 24th, 2015. Kathy, our wedding coordinator has been so helpful from the very beginning. The staff onsite that day was unbelievable. Our bartender, Scott, served fantastic drinks, all the waiters were friendly and professional, and the bridal attendant and maitre'd guided us through every detail and stress of the day. Guests keep calling our parents to tell them it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The food, the service, and the view were all flawless. We were able to have a NYC wedding for under $20,000 for 100 guests, but we were treated like we spent $200,000. Thank you, Water's Edge, for making our big day absolutely perfect!
We can't say enough how happy we were with the Water's Edge. The view from the reception was incredible. Everyone took such beautiful photos with the skyline of Manhattan in the background. The food was excellent and we have received numerous compliments from our guests. Everyone was a pleasure to work with and always responsive to our questions and requests. We have nothing but great things to say!
Thank You, Thank You To Abhi,Lateef,Mildred,
Scott & Waiters At The Water's Edge You All Did An Outstanding Job. My Huband & I Couldn't Have Picked A Better Venue.
We Had Our Wedding On September 26,2014

Mr & Mrs Ascolesi
The staff at the Water's Edge was phenomenal. They were flexible, accommodating... everything you want your wedding day venue to be! We were so impressed with their level service, from the banquet manager, to bridal attendant. The food was much better than we had expected... the cake was delicious! We had some minor issues the day of, but the venue was able to step in and make up for the lack of service and professionalism from another vendor. Not only was the service great, but the location was beautiful, the views are breathtaking! I Highly recommend this venue! You will not be disappointed!
Water's Edge is primarily known for its restaurant on the East River, but on the 2nd floor, there is a banquet hall where we had our wedding and reception. It was great! This venue and their staff comes as close as possible where most of your wedding decisions and logistics are taken care of for you. Here are some reasons why we chose WE: THE VIEW: Taking in the river with Manhattan's East Side? Especially as the backdrop of our wedding? Fantastic. SPACE: The venue was big enough for us to have both ceremony and reception. Ours was just over 200 total, but the venue told us they could have a lot more easily. FOOD: Everything was prepared and organized well. All we had to do was come ahead of time for the tasting and pick which ones we wanted to be served. They totally delivered on the food. Our guests were literally squealing at the cocktail hour. DRINKS: Open bar, of course, at a decent price, too. The head bartender was on point. He even took care of my husband and me, made sure we had a glass of something in our hands throughout the reception. BRIDAL ASSISTANT: I have to mention Mildred. She is the superstar of the Water's Edge wedding staff. From beginning to end, she was there to help us every step of the way. When we arrived at the venue, a button on my husband's tux had fallen off. Immediately she ordered him to take off the jacket and within minutes she had sewn it button back on. She noticed that my dress was wrinkled during the minutes before the ceremony when I nervous wreck and she steamed it down just in time. Once the ceremony ended, she settled us down in the bridal suite to relax and enjoy our food. She was almost like a grandmother to us, always soothing and thinking 3 steps ahead. Sweet, wonderful person. THE MAITRE'D - To be honest, I am not fully sure what he did. He must have been in charge with the overall services. We were informed beforehand that the expected tip was $5-7pp, which we thought was high.. Overall, we would recommend !
We had our wedding at the Water's Edge this past weekend. The venue was truly beautiful and elegant and so many of guests exclaimed over lovely it was. The view is really breathtaking. The service was also excellent. In particular, I would like to commend the maitre d, Latif, and the bridal attendant, Mildred. Both were wonderful work with and made everything run seamlessly. Our band was caught in traffic and Latif was able to contact them when we could not to make sure they were en route, thus calming down a very anxious bride. Mildred was so sweet and anticipated my every need or concern before I did. I also think the Water's Edge provides tremendous value. We had a breathtaking view that many venue charged triple fo.
The Water's Edge provides an unparalleled Manhattan view, as well as great service. Everyone the day of was fantastic, including the bridal attendant, Mildred, who helped my wife with uncounted numbers of things. They even helped out when our band seemed to be missing, by digging up a cell phone number (so that we could find out that the band was merely stuck in traffic). On top of which, they gave a great value, too.
What a wonderful wedding we had! We had invited over 200 people to our wedding, and everything came out perfectly. My husband and I met Kathy when we first booked our date for June 22, 2014. My husband is a foodie, and wanted to make sure that the food was excellent—he was not let down. We went to several tastings thanks to Kathy, and we were pleased every time. After the wedding, people were calling us and telling us what a great time they had and how excellent the food was. Scott (the bartender) made sure that everyone always had a full glass.
The highlight of our night was the bridal attendant, Mildred. She always made sure that I was comfortable: she helped bustle my dress, made sure we were well fed, and she even fanned me when I was sweating from dancing.
Overall, we highly recommend this hall. The food was stellar, the view was spectacular, and the service was remarkable. After the wedding, people were calling us and telling us what a good time they had, what great pictures they got with the view, and how excellent their food was. Our day went perfectly, and Waters Edge largely attributed to that.
We had both our ceremony and reception at the Water's Edge and it was wonderful. We booked the event through Kathy and she was so warm and friendly...she would respond to my (many) emails quickly and thoroughly. She was also helpful in coordinating our alternative wedding cake - we opted for a variety of pies and ice cream bar...she even helped us get one that was gluten-free so I could enjoy it! Mildred - our lady in waiting - was AMAZING! She made sure we both ate during the cocktail hour, shooed away unwanted guests stopping by the bridal suite and even sewed my dress when I had a wardrobe malfunction. All of our guests raved about the food and some said it was the best filet they ever had (and these guests came from Texas). Not to mention the view...it was perfect.
