Specialty bridal boutique Phoenix Bridal and Formals is the brainchild of Joan Sealey, seamstress and clothing designer. Her love of design began at a very early age. The daughter of a seamstress she learned how to sew at an early age and has spent a lifetime perfecting her sewing and designing skills. Since arriving in the U.S. from her native South America in the 70s she worked for Woodward Lothrop and Saks Jandel at the Watergate before starting her own fabric store and custom design business. The biggest part of her business is designing or re-designing a garment from a client's sketch or picture. Over the years she developed a feel for a garment needs to look construction takes a special skill and understanding the client's point of view is key. Most people come to her with an idea of the design that they like and she works with them to create that special look. In her showroom in Georgetown Park, one-of-a-kind originals are her specialy, but she also provides restyling, and expert alterations along with other lines of bridal gowns, prom dresses, pageants, mother of the bride.
