Thank you notes

I cannot find much online so looking for help on the rules of "Thank you" notes. I have received several wedding presents but have heard through the grape-vine that a "thank you" has not been received. I have notes but they have my married name printed on them and don't want to send until after the wedding. Should notes for shower gifts be sent before the wedding?

Yes, you should send your shower thank you notes within 3 weeks after the shower. So you should purchase ones just for the shower that don't have your soon to be last name on them. I got my shower thank yous from Target, very cute.

Yes, shower gift thank you's should be sent within a month of receiving them. Maybe you can just pick up some simple thank you's at a stationary store until after the wedding.

send notes for the shower gifts now. If you want to wait on the early wedding gifts I think you can but if you want to be safe you can send those now as well.

Thank you notes for your shower gifts should be sent a.s.a.p. after the shower. You can find lots of pretty generic thank-you cards to use. I believe that the traditional rules of etiquette actually give you a year from the receipt of a wedding gift. However, most people appreciate having their gifts acknowledged promptly if for no other reason than they will know that their gift has been received. Besides, it will seem like less of a chore if you spread out the note writing rather than trying to do it all at once.

Just go pickup some cute thankyou's from Target and send them asap.
Always send thank yous immediately after receiving a gift. The "rule" of waiting a year is not a good one to follow.

All your thank yous should be sent out asap. Besides, the more it builds up, the more daunting it will be later and the less likely you are to get them done.
You are correct in not using your married stationary until after the wedding, but as pp said, get generic ones from Target or WalMart. People will be more concerned that you sent them a ty in a timely manner rather than scrutinizing your stationary.

"I believe that the traditional rules of etiquette actually give you a year from the receipt of a wedding gift."
This is false. Guests have a year to send you a wedding gift, proper etiquette dictates that you should get the thank you's out within a month or two.

If you get wedding gifts before the wedding, open them to make sure they aren't broken, then send a TY right away. But don't use the gift yet. People will want to know you received it. You'll have so many after the wedding that you'll be glad you did it!
