MJS Weddings & Events (MJS) is an event planning company in the Bay Area that can help you plan a successful event by providing you a smart plan-of-action and exceptional organization. MJS specializes in weddings, but welcomes all types of events!

No matter what your event is, every event is a production! MJS offers a full service event planning, which consists of (but not limited to): maintaining budget, managing a calendar of action items selecting the venue, assisting with choosing the vendors, coordinating food, beverages and service needs, managing logistics, such as event overview, staffing, timeline, floor plan etc., consulting invitations and printed materials, arranging hotel and transportation accommodations, and on-site management. Meet MJ

Maryjane (MJ) began her career in special events in 2005 at California’s Great America, one of the four major amusement parks around the Bay Area. She also spent many years working in the restaurant industry while planning events for a non-profit organization. Eventually, an opportunity opened up for MJ in the hotel business which has allowed her to coordinate small to large scale corporate events. MJ has a sophisticated style and holistic approach to building events, paired with her client focused attitude and exceptional organizational skills has supported her enthusiasm for event planning. Her personal strengths combined with her work experience proves she’s a perfect fit to her chosen profession.

MJ enjoys planning for all events, but has a special passion for weddings. She began planning for weddings in 2010 when her mom decided to get married. This was the moment when MJ fell in-love with the world of weddings. She knew she had helped someone on the most important day of their life and wanted to continue helping other Brides ever since.

Wedding Services

Weddings are precious; it’s a celebration of life, love and each other. MJ is the lead planner/coordinator for every event to ensure special care is provided to each couple and the details are communicated with all vendors. MJ provides logistical planning and takes pride in her organizational skills as well as the variety of planning tools she’s created for each client. MJ encourages clients’ design ideas and will partner with the right vendors to bring the vision to life.

Every couple is different and so will their needs from a wedding planner. Depending on your budget and needs, below are options you can contract MJS:

  1. Full-service planner to arrange every detail
  2. Partial-service planner to assist you only after you’ve book all of your vendors
  3. Day-of coordinator to execute only at your wedding day

Tips for taking: Many venue locations can offer in-house coordinators, however, make sure you clarify exactly what level of service they provide. Venue coordinators are typically limited on their services, some may just handle day-of issues and offer a list of preferred vendors and some may offer setting up your items, but the most important to know is how much help you want or need ;)

Wedding Packages

I. Full-service Package

Feeling overwhelmed? Let’s plan from beginning to end! When you choose this package, you can count on me to guide you though your planning every step of the way, including booking your dream venue and vendors who will provide the best results and value for your event (around 100 hours or more of planning; does not include Day-of Coordination).

II. Partial-service Package

Need more help? Let me worry about coordinating arrangements with your vendors and tying the details with them! When you choose this package, you can count on me to jump in soon as you’ve contracted your vendors but realized you need additional help. I can be available to tie up the loose ends and make sure you have the right vendors to ensure your wedding day is a true success. This package includes consultation leading up to your big day (around 70 hours; does not include Day-of Coordination).

III. Day-of Coordination Package

Done with planning? Let’s coordinate the big day! You have handled all the planning and need a professional to help you with the details. When you choose this package, I can be available to help tie the knots together leading up to the day (around 20 hours plus 8 hours on the day-of).

  • Pre-planning session will be about discovering/finalizing your vision for your wedding. This process will assist me in narrowing down your ideas and creating a vision board for you that will keep you stay focused through out the planning process. We’ll also design the flow and transition of your wedding.
  • Planning tools will be created and provided to you. These tools are created to keep you on-track and organize through out the planning process. MJS tools consists of:
  • MJS Long or Short Engagement Wedding Planning Timeline
  • MJS Budget Sheet/Tracker
  • MJS Guest List/Tracker
  • MJS Checklists (includes checklists for vendors, wedding party, wedding items, & more!)
  • Budget planning - together, we can create a realistic budget for your wedding which includes a specific allocation for each aspect of the big day.
  • Wedding day coverage (up to 8 hours) - I can direct and oversee the vendors set up, greet guests upon arrival, assist with any questions at your wedding and make sure everything goes accordingly to your plan. (over-time hours may be requested for additional fee of $100/per hour)

Day-of coverage may include:

  • On-site supervision for questions, guidance, and execution of your event
  • Coordinate with Catering and/or Banquets team prior to guests arrival
  • Greet all vendors upon load-in and direct as needed during set-up
  • Attend ceremony, ensure items are set and ready before ceremony begins —coordinate with church coordinator if applicable
  • Attend reception from first vendor’s set-up arrival, until the last major events on your wedding timeline
  • Greet guests upon arrival
  • Oversee guest flow, distribution of programs, usher’s duties and seating (if needed)
  • Coordinate ceremony processional and cue DJ/musicians
  • Assist in transferring wedding items from ceremony to reception area (only if venue is the same place)
  • Coordinate with all vendors on scheduled events, such as Bridal party introduction, first dance, toasts, etc.
  • Ensure timeline is executed smoothly and according to plan
  • Distribution of final payment or gratuity envelopes/gifts to reception vendors from you
  • Collect gifts/ wedding items towards the end of the night (may require overtime fee if pass 8-hours) and give to designated person to take home (this service does not mean tearing down DIY set-up from the venue and/or transferring items from venue to hotel. Please ask for more details if this service ill be required at your event).
  • Solve unexpected concerns on-site

Event day management - Client will be responsible for preparing a timeline, confirming details and commitments with the vendors, and all other related tasks for the day-of the event. With this specific service, the tasks which will be executed by the Day-Of Coordinator (DOC) will be based upon the client/bride’s planning and preparations. In these instances where the DOC has no previous interaction with the vendors, the DOC will only be as good as the information the client/bride provides.

Having MJ as our wedding planner for our June 30, 2017 wedding was the best choice my husband and I made towards our road to wedding planning. She was there for us from A-Z and made herself available, ensuring that our process of wedding planning went seamless and smooth. From assisting us in choosing a venue, to vendor shopping such as; photographer, videographer, florists, DJ/MC, photobooth, hotel accommodations, transportation, hair & makeup, attire etc -- to the small things such as giving her tips and advice on alterations, and what worked well and what didn't. Her knowledge in the industry, professionalism, and attention to detail was very well executed and hands down the best service we've experience amongst our other vendors. She also does a very good job negotiating. Weddings are expensive, and if there is a chance to bring some numbers down, MJ was great at that! Further, we've experience some challenges along the way such as our venue not being as responsive as we hoped. With MJ's drive and passion towards her job, she was able to turn the situation around and let's just say, our venue cooperated ;)

Lastly, we give major kudos to MJ because throughout the duration of our 1 year planning, MJ was pregnant majority of the time with her first baby. As our wedding grew closer, she was faced with the challenges of being a new mom however, this new mom did not stop her from giving her best and ensuring our dream come true wedding came to life!

To the future brides and grooms out there who are facing the challenges of wedding planning and do not know where to start, we highly encourage you to reach out to MJ. Her timeline, templates, advice, and exceptional knowledge in this industry will ensure you that the wedding you in vision will come true =)

I am happy to share the following review for future couples looking for a wedding planner. My husband, Kevin, and I have had the pleasure of working with MJ to plan our November wedding for 200 guests. MJ kept us on track with our timeline, providing detailed organizational tools that guided us along the way. She also made sure that we were not overwhelmed with the amount of work that faced us, helping us manage our time and only focusing on the tasks to be completed at hand. MJ always put our needs first and reminded that, while budgeting and keeping our parents and bridal party happy, it was extremely important to go back to our vision. We really appreciated her honest feedback and suggestions.

MJ consistently maintained a high level of professionalism and she was always very kind. These qualities made the contract negotiations with our vendors a lot more seamless. She was also mindful of our time during the planning process, understanding when it was appropriate to share her availability. This was especially important when she too was getting married and planning her own wedding! However, that of all things did not get in the way when it came to our wedding planning.

Overall, the wedding night went on without so much of a hitch and it was absolutely magnificent. Our family and friends could not stop talking about it! Some even shared that it was a “fairy tale wedding,” “one of the top 3 weddings they’ve ever been to,” and “the event of the year.” Again, thank you so much MJ for being so committed to ensuring our big day was nothing short of amazing.

Kevin and I can’t express enough how much of a time saver it is to work with a wedding planner especially who is passionate and is an expert at their industry like MJ. We highly recommend it!

Mj was an amazing planner. Although we didn't get to book MJ as our day of coordinator, she helped us with the process of finding vendors and giving us insightful advice. She was very professional and was able to get back to us in a timely manner. I would recommend her to any one who is getting married and is in need of someone that is professional, organized, detailed, and willing to work with the bride and grooms needs. You will not be disappointed when you go with MJ.
