Abby and Kyle were married at Kelley Agricultural Historical Museum in Sharpsville, Ind. on August 31. “We really wanted an outdoor venue that also offered an indoor space in case of inclement weather,” Abby said. “At the time, barns were a popular venue choice, and we had a hard time finding one that was both unique and available. A date opened up at our venue, and we toured on a windy March day. It was rustic, historic to the area, and had an awesome loft area. The barn itself was reconstructed as it would have been 100 years ago.” The bride wore a sweetheart lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown with a keyhole back, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls, floor-length veil, jeweled sash, and a pair of Nina peep-toe high heels, while the groom wore a three-piece taupe suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore short dresses and carried bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, craspedia, berries, and seeded eucalyptus. Guests were greeted with rays of sunshine rather than rain! Programs featured the itinerary on the front and fun facts on the back. Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official, almost 200 witnessing. “The moment after we walked back down the aisle, we were hidden behind a pine tree for a few seconds,” she said. “We hugged and kissed, and we both looked at each other like, ‘now what?’ and laughed. Then, our family and friends came to us one-by-one, and it just felt like the happiest, most complete time of my life.” Cocktail hour began followed the reception shortly thereafter. “We are both Purdue graduates, and we really wanted to incorporate our time there,” Abby said. “Purdue has a classic bar called Harry’s. We had signature Harry’s plastic cups, popcorn bags (and a popcorn machine), and a Harry’s sign, kindly created by a bridesmaid. We served Indiana wine and beer from local breweries too.” Tables were decorated with white linens, burlap runners, mason jar centerpieces atop wood slices, peanuts, and old-fashion Coca-Cola bottles, which also served double-duty as favors, surrounded by folding padded chairs. A two-tiered cake was cut and served concluding a buffet dinner. The newlyweds’ best advice? “The experience goes by so fast,” she said. “Don’t sweat the small stuff. You may spend a lot of time agonizing over the details and before you know it, you’re at the airport leaving for paradise. Enjoy the extra time with everyone. For most, planning your wedding is a once in a lifetime experience. Make the most of it!” At the end of the night, they jetted off to their honeymoon in St. Lucia.
Melissa and Michael were married at Big Foot Country Club in Fontana-on-Geneva Lake, Wis. on August 23. The one thing about the venue that made them know it was the one was “the shabby chic elegance of the country club,” Melissa said. “The main room has high ceilings with beams and lots of light. It was the feel of an upscale barn.” The bride wore a strapless lace a-line wedding gown with a tiered skirt, accessorized with a sideswept ponytail, jeweled headband, flower sash, and a pair of peep-toe high heels, while the groom wore a navy blue tuxedo with black trim on the lapels, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore short navy blue chiffon dresses in various necklines and carried bouquets of garden roses, dahlias, peonies, astilbe, and greenery. Despite unexpected rain showers, the ceremony took place outside underneath wooden two doors. “My favorite moment was walking down the aisle and seeing everyone smile because they were there for us and only us,” she said. The couple performed a sand pouring to symbolize the unity of joining of two families. “We didn’t want a cookie cutter setup,” Melissa said. “We had action stations for food, no set dinner time, and tables to accompany all sizes – 18, 10, 4.” Each one was decorated differently with white linens, pastel napkins, vintage vases and vessels, and lanterns. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Go with your first instinct,” Melissa said. “Don’t second guess yourself and believe in your vision. If you do that, you will not be disappointed.”
Jessica and Ross were married in a traditional church ceremony at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University followed by a reception at Jefferson Memorial in St. Louis, Mo. on November 16. “Jefferson Underground has personality, and we wanted something other than a cookie-cutter wedding,” Jessica said. “We loved the unfinished brick walls and industrial feel to it as well as the outdoor space we could us for the bar and dance floor.” The bride wore a strappy satin fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with statement earrings, necklace, and sash, while the groom wore a three-piece gray suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched short navy blue dresses and carried bouquets of dahlias, anemones, silver brunia balls, thistles, and succulents. “From the beginning, we wanted the theme of our wedding to be really neat lighting,” she said. “The Aries Company helped us realize that dream with the string lights and Edison light fixtures. It really stood out in pictures and added a special glow to the whole evening.” Dinner was all tons and tons of local flavors! “We wanted to show our guests a taste of St. Louis — Schlafyly seasonal beer, BBQ, and ice cream with ingredients sourced all over,” Jessica said. Tables were decorated with gray linens, assorted vases and vessels centerpieces, and yarn art numbers. Notice the goat cheese potato chip favor bags at each place setting? Plus, the personalized plastic cups that also served double-duty as escort cards. “After the first dance, it started to sprinkle and rain a little bit,” she said. “We were worried it would ruin the reception, but our guests weren’t deterred. We will never forget dancing in the rain with all of our family and friends, and it made for some unforgettable memories and hilarious pictures.”
Ashley and Dan were married at Maclay Gardens in Tallahassee, Fla. on April 5. “We wanted the wedding to reflect our personal vibe, so we didn’t have a set color scheme,” Ashley said. “We focused on pieces that felt authentic to our relationship and went from there. The result was a setting filled jewel tones, prints, neutrals, vintage metals, textures, and lots of colorful flowers and crystals.” The bride wore a cami strap maxi wedding gown with lace inserts, accessorized with hair down in loose curls, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with a solid tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched long dresses and carried umbrellas instead of bouquets! “Maclay Gardens became the natural choice since Dan and I have always loved exploring the grounds,” she said. “He even proposed to me there! We know it’s a place we can return to often to relive all the beautiful memories we’ve made there together.” During the ceremony, it poured down rain. “But we just kept going with huge smiles on our faces,” Ashley said. “Don’t let the small things get you down; this is a day to celebrate your love!” Fun fact: they even incorporated parts of Dan’s grandparents’ ceremony into theirs. The reception was held underneath a tent. Tables were decorated with white linens, burlap runners, candle sticks, mercury glass centerpieces atop wooden slices, and scattered berries. “There was a big, funky dance party,” she said. “Looking around the tent and seeing all of our family and friends getting down made all the months of planning so very worth it.” The newlyweds’ favorite moments? “Where Dan and I secretly slipped away and took the night in together,” Ashley said. “It was important for us to step back from everything and just be. One specific moment though, was when we left the reception at the end of the night and read our vows to each other again.”
Jenelle and David were married on at Juliette Chapel & Events in Dahlonega, Ga. on March 28. “We wanted something that our family from Michigan would never see up north,” Jenelle said. “The Juliette Chapel & Events was right in the middle of a beautiful mountain town, full of charm and personality. When we pulled up and saw that we would have room for both an outdoor and indoor setting, we got this overwhelming feeling of a romantic yet rustic atmosphere.” The bride wore a strapless lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a jeweled sash, while the groom wore a three-piece gray suit, accessorized with a black tie. Bridesmaids wore long gray chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses. “The days leading up to the wedding the forecast was grim and expected to rain all day, which it pretty much did,” she said. “But I look back and think about how fun we had, between standing with my bridesmaids with their purple umbrellas and funny poses to walking across the patio with my husband to take pictures under our clear umbrella, it was perfect.” Following the intimate ceremony, 85 guests found their seats via vintage key escort cards. Tables were decorated with white linens, hydrangea centerpieces, votive candles, and mint favor bags. The newlyweds’ favorite detail? “Our cake was AMAZING!” Jenelle said. “It was literally the best cake I have ever had. Our decorator surprised David with a groom’s cake and catered to my gluten-free/dairy-free needs.”
