We just returned from New York Bridal Market, and we’re both exhausted and exhilarated. As a team, we viewed over 70 collections, thousands of dresses (nearly 1,125 by our estimate!) and hundreds of accessories, and spotted some very clear wedding dress trends. So what was the biggest trend of the season? We’re calling it now…

Gold, silver, and everything in between! We loved the glamorous and regal, yet still totally wedding-appropriate and flattering look of metallic wedding gowns (and some bridesmaid styles too!). From grand ballgowns to slinky lace sheaths, rich golds and luminous silvers were shown on all silhouettes and gown styles. Check out our favorite metallic styles from the Fall 2014 New York Bridal Market in our special bridal market section, and be sure to check out all of the brand-new, hot-off-the-runway designer collections.

We were so excited to hear that Jennifer Aniston is now engaged to Justin Theroux. Of course, we immediately starting dreaming up what Jennifer’s wedding dress would look like. Here’s what we know: The actress seems to gravitate toward modern looks, nothing too frou-frou or overly feminine, so we’re thinking she’ll probably stay away from lace or floral appliques. And she does like to show off that famous physique of hers, so perhaps she’d like something form-fitting or short. Or maybe she’ll go for a super-edgy, fashion-forward look (a pantsuit, perhaps) or a style in her favorite color – black! Check out these styles we think Jen would love, and then tell us:

Which wedding dress style do you think Jennifer Aniston should wear?

Before you start shopping for your wedding dress, you’ll need to think a bit about necklines and ultimately, pick your favorite. To help you in this endeavor, we’ve created a glossary of necklines so you can see all the options in one place. Our recommendation: Try on gowns with different necklines before nailing down your preferred style. You may think you love strapless, but after seeing yourself in a bateau, you could change your mind!

New Wedding Dresses: Amsale

We’ll admit it, we are total suckers for celebrity weddings, waiting with bated breath for details and photos from a star’s big day. So of course, we were delighted to see images from Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas’s New York wedding hit the Web yesterday – and were even more excited to see Thomas wearing a gown that looked quite familiar. In fact, we had just seen the hot-off-the-runway Amsale creation (above, left) at spring bridal market! The style features a fit-to-flare neckline with cap sleeves and a keyhole back. We love that the gown is sleek and modern, but still feels appropriate for a church wedding.

Amsale’s new collection also featured several gowns with lace illusion necklines – a style that has truly made a comeback in recent months. One of our favorites was a silk A-line gown (above, right) that feels so classic yet fresh.

Check out all of the new Amsale wedding dresses here, and share your favorites in the comments!
