Lynman and Jonathan were married at The Carousel at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, Conn on August 30. “We met in New Hampshire and are both from the East Coast, and we initially wanted to have our wedding in Vermont,” Lynman said. “But once we started looking at venues there, we realized we wanted something more accessible (since we were traveling from Singapore and having friends coming in from around the country). Hence why, we started looking at places around the tri-state area. Once I saw pictures of the carousel all lit up inside the vintage wooden building right on the beach, we were sold.” The bride wore a custom-made sheath wedding gown with an illusion neckline, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls, jeweled sash, and a pair of sandals, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a tie. “The floral crown was a crowd favorite,” she said. “I couldn’t decided between a veil or a floral crown, so I decided to do both. Our florist, Jennifer, did such a good job. Everyone complimented me on it, and it kind of set the tone for the whole day that it was going to just be a fun party on the beach. It was perfect for the wedding–laid-back, bohemian and whimsical, a little different with just a touch of unexpected flare.” Bridesmaids wore short pink chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, astilbe, dahlias, berries, and succulents. “We really wanted to incorporate my culture into the ceremony with tea, especially since most of my family is in Hong Kong and couldn’t make it,” Lynman said. “It was great to be able to share that part of my heritage with Jon’s side. My cousin hosted it and Jon’s brother translated, which made it even more memorable.” Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official. Cocktail hour began followed by the reception shortly thereafter. “It’s hard to pin down one moment, but while planning the day, we slotted in a 15-minute period after the hoopla–after the ceremony and pictures–and before our entrance where we got to hang out, just the two of us, as a married couple for the first time,” she said. “We just had some whiskey and took it all in, watching everyone from a distance. It was a nice, if temporary, moment of peace and quiet during a crazy but hectic day.” Tables were decorated with white linens and napkins, vintage vase and vessel centerpieces, postcard names, and mercury glass votive candles, surrounded by upholstered chairs. In lieu of a traditional guest book, a globe was signed. The newlyweds’ best advice? “We wanted 10 years from now to look back and say that we had a blast with everyone we loved,” Lynman said. “Our officiant quoted Rihanna, we had corn hole on the beach, an open bar, and we had dance offs and ice cream sandwiches and people laughing and crying. All the details that you can obsess over, and the things you feel like you HAVE to do don’t matter because no one will remember that. Focus on what makes you happy as a couple.” At the end of the night, they jetted off to their honeymoon in Amsterdam.
Tanya and Andrey were married at Cannons Seafood Grill Restaurant in Dana Point, Calif. on September 27. “The view from the patio of the restaurant where everything took place was just breathtaking,” Tanya said. “It overlooks the harbor and Pacific Ocean.” The bride wore a custom-made sweetheart a-line wedding gown with a tulle skirt, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls, sash, and a pair of Badgley Mischka jeweled high heels, while the groom wore a black suit, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore long pink chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of garden roses, silver brunia balls, and dusty millers. “I cannot stop thinking about how much fun the morning of our wedding day was,” she said. “It was a very memorable morning when we were surrounded by our closest friends. They were always there — helping, supporting, loving, and making us feel very special.” Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look on the balcony. Andrey’s reaction: priceless! Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official, only 55 witnessing. Cocktail hour began followed by the reception shortly thereafter. Guests were escorted to their seats via cards adorned with starfishes in the sand. Tables were decorated with white linens, mason jar centerpieces wrapped in burlap and lace, and votive candles, surrouned by chiavari chairs. A three-tiered buttercream-frosted cake concluding dinner. The newlyweds’ best advice? “I would recommend to start planning ahead of time, at least eight months in advance for a small wedding and up to a year for a bigger wedding,” Tanya said. “Take on step at a time, do not rush with anything and enjoy the most exciting time planning your big day. It should be a fun and stress-free process.” At the end of the night, they jetted off to their honeymoon in Mexico.
Laura and Uk were married at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, in Soufriere, Saint Lucia on June 14. No doubt it was a destination. After all they did get engaged in Paris! “We were visiting Paris, where I used to work,” Laura said. “On our first night of a two-week trip, we went to dinner at the top of a museum right next to the Eiffel Tower. We went onto the rooftop deck to check out the sights, and I was taking photos. When I turned around Uk was down on one knee.” They choose a venue that was located within a tropical rainforest. “We loved the hotel, Sugar Beach, because of the beautiful architecture and design, and of course, the gorgeous beach.” The bride wore a sweetheart tulle a-line wedding gown with illusion straps, accessorized with her hair half-up/half-down in loose curls, fingertip-length veil, jeweled sash, and a pair of Betsey Johnson bow peep-toe high heels, while the groom wore a light gray suit with a white button-up shirt, accessorized with no tie. Bridesmaids wore short coral peplum dresses and carried bouquets of ginger and anthuriums. Guests were greeted with welcome bags filled with sunscreen and aloe, and bonus: a hangover kit, just in case of emergencies. Despite the rain showers, the ceremony took place on the sunset deck overlooking panoramic views of the volcanic Anse des Pitons. A steel bass band performed during the processional and recessional too. Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official! The reception followed shortly thereafter. The colonial-themed restaurant tables were decorated with white linens, floating candles in staggered vase centerpieces, and lace doily-inspired place cards at each setting. “Having our close family and friends travel all the way to celebrate us,” she said. “We even did a sunset boat cruise one night that was a blast.” The newlyweds’ best advice? “Do a rehearsal walk down the aisle,” Laura said. “We skipped that, and it caused unnecessary anxiety for me at the actual ceremony.” At the end of the night, they exited amongst a sea of wish lanterns and jetted off to their honeymoon in Sweden and Denmark.
Christine and Blaine were married at Grand Velas Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico on March 15. The bride wore a strapless sweetheart a-line wedding gown with a ruched bodice, accessorized with her hair in a curly sideswept ponytail, jeweled headband, and a pair of glitter platform pumps, while the groom wore a tan suit with a white button-up shirt, accessorized with no tie. She carried a bouquet of roses, carnations, and lillies. The bridesmaids wore high-low hemline dresses, and the groomsmen wore an orange button-up shirt and khaki pants. Fun fact: they were their kids! Guests were greeted with a wooden sign that said, “shoe valet” to encourage them to go barefoot in the sand for the ceremony at sunset. Each sat rattan chairs atop bamboo rugs as they witnessed the exchanging of vows underneath a chuppah draped with fabric. Once it was sealed with a kiss, it was official! Hugs were the first thing in order before the processional and after the recessional, of course. The reception followed shortly thereafter on the Zen Grand Pool Terrace. Tables were decorated with turquoise linens, orange napkins, and lanterns lit with candles. A salad and entree were served for dinner then a mini cake, topped with skulls, was cut for dessert. Dancing was held on an LED panel floor. And at the end of the night, some even jumped into the water!
Alison and Kit were married at Moloa’a Shangri-La in Kauai, Hawaii on March 16. The bride wore a strapless lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with her hair in a braided sideswept ponytail, jeweled sash, and henna tattoos on her feet, while the groom wore a light grey suit, accessorized with a tie, Dooney & Bourke suspenders, and a leis around his neck. Bridesmaids wore long purple chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, dahlias, orchids, seeded eucalyptus, and succlents. Even their dog was included too! Guests were greeted to the bali-themed architectural estate overlooking scenic views of Moloa’a Bay and a chalkboard sign that said, “The best things in life are meant to be shared. #durdererwedding.” The ceremony took place in the backyard promptly at 2 p.m. The chuppah was underneath a giant oak tree draped with fabric and hung with crystals. Alison was escorted down the aisle with both of her parents and then, circled Kit 7 times also called the hakafot. Once the ketubah was signed, the glass was broken. Fun fact: It was all live streamed for those family and friends that could not attend. Notice the fist pump during the recessional? The reception took place underneath a pole tent, hung with paper lanterns, a few hours later. Tables were decorated with textured linens, floating cylinder vase centerpieces, and votive candles, surrounded by folding padded chairs. The dance floor wasn’t complete without the hava nagila song being played with the newlyweds’ cast up on chairs. In lieu of a traditional guest book, everyone was asked to share a message written on postcards and hung on clothespins from vintage suitcases. The three-tiered cake was cut and served after dinner for dessert. At the end of the night, they exited amongst a sea of sparklers and jetted off to their honeymoon in New Zealand.
