Dressing the Men!

Posted by lotus on Apr 04, 2012

After we spent hours and weeks figuring out what the girls were going to wear, it was time to move on to the men! ‘Please, dear god, let this process go smoother’ I thought as we walked into Men’s Wearhouse on a snowy Saturday morning in January. Maybe it was the fact that it was just me and Lotus Dude, or the fact that we already knew what we wanted going in , or the fact that they only had two options for us to choose from, but in any event — we were in and out in under an hour. If only all our wedding choices could go as smoothly!

Suiting options for men, while I’m sure they’ve come along way, are still pretty minimal. One thing I was sure of was that I did not want black tuxes. I know we’re having a formal, evening affair, and black tuxes would look so sharp — but with the girls in navy blue, I couldn’t do it. I personally don’t like the way that navy and black look together, I think that it kind of looks like a bruise. Not exactly the look we are going for :/

Not loving this look so much :/

Plus, both are really dark colors for a mid-July wedding and I didn’t think it flowed with our overall theme. I still wanted it to be “summer-y”. Then one day, a few months ago, I fell in love with these photos:

I loved the grey! And so did L-Dude, which is even more important since he is the one wearing it. They look light and summer-y but because they are tuxes, they still look formal. We chose a solid white tie for him (to match me!) and solid navy for the groomsmen (to match the bridesmaids) but we are thinking about swapping their ties. In case you haven’t yet figured this out, I am a sucker for anything that is navy blue and white striped. We found this website the other day and then found these ties that I am completely obsessed with!

At only $6.95 we are thinking about ordering one for each of the guys as part of their gift, and I think it will really nicely tie our wedding look together. What do you think?

What are your guys wearing on the big day? Anyone else doing grey tuxes?
