Actress Amy Poehler is already a pro at winning us over with her witty humor, but here at WeddingWire, we think she could have another career in her future: wedding pianist! On November 3, at a church in Pasadena, Calif., Poehler was on hand for a reading of “Portlandia” actress Carrie Brownstein’s book, “Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl: A Memoir.” During the Q&A portion of the event, a fan named Kendall stepped up to the mic and requested that Brownstein marry her and her partner, Genevieve, right then and there! It turns out that Brownstein is a licensed wedding officiant, and after some encouragement from Poehler, she agreed to perform the impromptu wedding. The ever-so-thoughtful Poehler quickly made bouquets for Kendall and Genevieve before taking a seat behind the church’s piano. You can hear her playing some (amateur) notes as the couple exchange their handwritten vows. We have to say that Brownstein did a fantastic job as the officiant, even providing Kendall and Genevieve with some heartfelt marriage advice that had us a bit teary-eyed. See for yourself in the video above!
Even though traditions such as walking down the aisle to “Canon in D” haven’t changed over the last century–wedding dresses have! Which iconic look inspires YOU in Mode’s 3-minute video? (Secretly, we still adore the ’50s fashion. How could we forget when Audrey Hepburn married Mel Ferrer in a tea-length Givenchy gown!) Be sure to follow WeddingWire on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat because our editors are at New York Bridal Market from Wednesday, October 7 through Monday, October 12 with exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of the latest collections. Plus, they will post photos with the hashtag #WWxBFW!
Here at WeddingWire, our editors encounter our fair share of creative, insanely romantic marriage proposals. Well, we have to say this one takes the cake! After performing a rendition of “Seven Bridges Road” during a blind audition on The Voice, boyfriend-girlfriend singing duo Jubal and Amanda faced the panel of celeb judges for a critique. At the 2:20 mark, Blake Shelton innocently inquires about the duo’s relationship status—and what happens next has Gwen Stefani’s jaw dropping, Pharrell Williams jumping out of his chair, and the audience going crazy! Watch for yourself above. Congratulations and happy wedding planning to Jubal and Amanda!
The editors here at WeddingWire spend most of our time sharing our best wedding-related advice. Once we watched this now-viral video of little JoJo imparting her knowledge of weddings, however, we realized that our attempts have been futile. She pretty much sums up all that you need to know about wedding ceremony etiquette (particularly regarding the “no shouting while someone is walking down the aisle” rule), and we should probably just give up now because she’s got it covered. This is also another prime example of why having kids at your wedding can be pretty great. Watch this video, and you’ll see what we mean.
There is a 100 percent chance you saw the worldwide premiere of Fifty Shades of Grey with your fiance on Valentine’s Day this weekend. Maybe even re-read the book too? Now that your dinner- and movie-night out is over, we want to know: are you Anastasia Steele or Christian Grey when it comes to wedding planning? Don’t be shy, we dare you to take our quiz here.
