Book Trev! Just book him. Seriously. That's the short version, now here's the longer one: In 2024 my then-fianceé and I had planned a two-day event, a wedding ceremony at home in a tent and then a reception at a venue. We hired another West Indian DJ to cater to the music interests of our families. This dj seemed to be competent-- popular even. But the music directly after wedding ceremony was overly loud, the playlist was homogenous, and the DJ could barely read or lead the room (just playing great song after great song-- essentially wasting them because he never realized the need to give people the chance to relax or get a drink-- eventually leaving the dance floor completely empty). I immediately told my new wife that I did not like his approach. But he was who we had booked... Later that night, a devastating family tragedy struck that forced us to postpone our reception one year. When the time came to talk to our subpar DJ, he was unavailable leaving us in a bind with only a month left before the event. We scoured the internet for a new DJ that could 1) create a good playlist for West Indian and American wedding guests 2) that was experienced and skilled enough to read the room and lead it too, and 3) was affordable! We talked to a few potential DJs, but it seemed like they would only check one or two boxes--but never all three. THEN WE MET DJ TR3V! I listened to some of his DJing lessons on Instagram. I heard some of his mixes and live performances. And after interviewing him, he already had a plan for what the vibe would be-- even for my white American friends! We booked him the same night. But it didn't end there. Trev had the goods too! Not only DJ services, but MC as well. We got 4 cold sparklers, a dance on the cloud effect, a photo booth, and an audio guest book! And the total was an actual reasonable amount considering all we were getting. Trev gave us a questionnaire that really helped him understand our musical tastes as well as the vibe we wanted for our guests. He even spliced two songs for our first dance (that don't go together at all) perfectly. On the night of the reception, he immediately made himself available to our officiant and explained everything to her. He was also there for my wife and my private reception room reveal and private first dance. He was also super helpful to our wedding party about the entrances and the equipment on the ground to be careful for, for their safety. His hype was real, his announcements and MCing were exciting and helpful, and when the music got started, there was no denying that he nailed the vibe. I literally danced all night. Every time I pull myself away to do some other reception related chore, I would want to run back to the floor. After the reception, guests of all ages and backgrounds started off every compliment with how great of a DJ we had. So seriously. Do yourself a favor. Talk to Trev. Do your due diligence too! Talk to a bunch of DJs! But 1) make sure you get their prices for DJ services and mc services, but what other things they offer and 2) ask them what they will do if the folks on the dancefloor are starting to look tired. The best answers will come from DJ Trev.
