The most idyllic Maine venue

Our wedding at The 1774 Inn earlier this year was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The Inn is nestled along the coast of Maine, making it an idyllic backdrop to get married. We loved how intimate and private it felt, only sharing the weekend with our closest friends and family.

Everything was exceptional, from Marianne's initial tour to Lana's warm wedding welcome and Stuart and Sarah's day of assistance. They all went above and beyond to make our wedding perfect. Although a light rain passed through during our ceremony, our incredible day-of coordinator (Katie at Dragonfly Services) ensured that everything went off flawlessly.

The venue was full of historic charm, with every room thoughtfully designed to preserve its character. We loved celebrating all weekend (Thursday-Sunday) with our loved ones. Nearby Airbnbs on Parker Head Road made it even easier to have friends and family stay close by.

We are eager to return to The 1774 Inn as it holds such a special place in our hearts. We are forever grateful we found this beautiful venue to celebrate our wedding!

Best Venue Ever

My husband and I got married mid October this year at the 1774 Inn. We cannot say enough good things about the venue, the owners, and the coordinator. First of all, the venue is absolutely stunning. It has a beautiful view looking at the Kennebec river. The venue also has rooms that family or your wedding party can stay in. The design of the venue from the rooms to the barn to the hayloft are absolutely stunning. Our whole weekend was everything we could have imagined and more. Our families and friends had such a memorable time. They also encourage us to come back in the future (for an anniversary or maybe one day with our kids) and we absolutely won’t have to think twice about visiting again. If you’re thinking about getting married at the 1774 Inn, we would definitely recommend it.

The perfect combination of destination beauty and a warmth akin to home

We chose the 1774 Inn in large part because of our experience on our first visit. We got to meet Marianne, our eventual wedding coordinator, and one of the owners, Stuart. The first thing that we noticed about the Inn is the obvious, the setting is beautiful, and the vibe is wonderfully calming. We came to realize so much more about the Inn during the following two years we spent planning our wedding. The owners are incredibly kind and down to earth. Throughout our entire experience Sarah and Stuart (the owners) kept working on the Inn, creating the Hayloft suite and retouching many of the rooms at the Inn with their unique sense of style and quality. Our experience in planning the wedding and working with the Inn could not have been better. Marianne and the owners have extensive experience with vendors in the area and were an instrumental resource for us as we chose our perfect vendor team. The 1774 Inn was our first decision in planning our wedding and we could not have chosen a more wonderful group of people to work with. That became very evident on our wedding day. It was perfect. We got to experience Kindness Day in Bath, fireworks on the beach at Popham that happily coincided with our rehearsal dinner, Sarah’s delicious breakfast on the morning of our wedding, and a wonderful familial atmosphere at the Inn in the days leading up to our wedding. A wedding at the 1774 Inn has all the wonderful photographic and experiential benefits of a destination wedding as well as the feel of a backyard wedding with family you haven’t seen for a long time and can’t wait to catch up with. We loved every second of our stay and highly recommend making use of the outdoor firepit, Popham beach and the surrounding Bath area, as well as the ability to spend the morning after the wedding at the 1774 Inn. We were initially planning on leaving our wedding on our wedding night but were convinced to stay the night at the Inn and have breakfast with our wedding party and family members on Sunday morning. It was the perfect decision for us and is a wonderfully insightful benefit of the 1774 Inn. We truly cannot say a single bad thing about the Inn, and the people that work there. As a result of some unforeseen circumstances, we had to adjust the schedule of our wedding day slightly and make some other changes. Everyone at the Inn was super helpful, supportive, flexible, and put us at ease throughout the day. Everybody always says their wedding day was the best day ever. Ours truly was, and the people who made it possible at the 1774 Inn are people we will not only be forever grateful too, but they are also people we will think of from now on as close friends. You will not find this combination of scenic beauty, wonderful people, and historic awe anywhere else. We could not be happier with everything about our wedding experience with the 1774 Inn.

Beautiful wedding venue

Our wedding at the 1774 Inn was a dream! Every aspect of the day was gorgeous, from the stunning waterfront view during our outdoor ceremony, to the beautiful driftwood arbor under which we said our vows, to the charming hay barn where we had our reception, and even down to the lovely handmade farm tables they provided for our dinner. Marianne, Stuart, and Sarah were great to work with - they were warm, friendly, and there to guide us throughout the wedding planning process. Our entire wedding party was able to stay at the inn during our wedding weekend, and it was so nice to be surrounded by our family and friends during that time. We are so happy and grateful to have had our wedding at the 1774 Inn, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue or a better team to work with!

Perfect, Beautiful, Classic Maine Waterfront Wedding

We cannot have been more thrilled about our wedding at the 1774 Inn! The entire team, Sarah, Stuart, and Marianne were there with us for our entire journey, and helped make our vision a reality. We were originally struck by their kindness and warmth, and this feeling stayed with us throughout our wedding planning process. Our wedding weekend at 1774 Inn was magical. Having the manor house to ourselves with our closest family members, eating local yogurt with fresh Maine blueberries for breakfast alongside homemade granola, sitting out on the lawn drinking beer overlooking the water, and having smores by the fire the night before we left were all part of the 1774 Inn experience. The wedding itself was absolutely beautiful, and even our pickiest friends and family members asked "How did you find this place?". Sarah, Stuart, and Marianne worked with us every step of the way to make sure that we could have an outdoor dance floor, we could have a firepit, and we could use an arch made by my grandfather. I cannot recommend the 1774 Inn highly enough for an absolutely perfect Maine wedding.

Stuart and Sarah are the perfect hosts. My husband and I planned a small elopement with our immediate family and Sarah did everything from coordinate the ceremony (which was officiated by Stuart) to making everyone snacks, arranging a breath taking bouquet, and making our delicious wedding cake, with matching flowers from my bouquet. Stuart is an excellent public speaker and he even gave us some tips on writing our vows. We opted to stay the night to have a wine paired gourmet 6 course dinner with my brother and sister- in- law and Sarah and Stuart did not disappoint. Stuart is a wine genius and picked some unique and delicious wines for us to try and the food was mostly locally sourced and incredible. It was so local that Sarah and Stuart had foraged some of the mushrooms themselves earlier in the week, and many of the vegetables were from their own garden. It was an unbelievable day and The 1774 Inn is a rare find.

We were so lucky to have stumbled upon the 1774 Inn for our wedding venue, as our wedding was planned in 6 months. Thankfully for us, the Inn was under new ownership, so had not been booked ahead for the 2018 season. We drove there on a cold day this winter, and despite the icy gray tone of the day, we fell in love immediately. We did not know exactly what we were looking for, but when we looked out across the lawn with views of the Kennebec River, we knew this was it. We fell even more in love when we met the new owners, Sarah and Stuart: a young, professional, totally hip couple that are down to earth and exceptionally accommodating. We opted to have both of our families stay at the Inn from Thursday through Monday, creating a mini getaway for all. This was the best idea, as we could relax a bit more than if it were just there one or two nights. Having the extra day before and after the wedding truly made the difference, being able to really enjoy the 1774 Inn and time with our families. Our families are big enough that we filled up the place, making it feel like our own space. Each morning a gourmet, local, delicious homemade breakfast was prepared by Sarah & Stuart. Their attention to detail in the food was very much appreciated by our foodie families! The wedding went off without a hitch. I can honestly say I would not have changed a thing. We did so little decorating because there truly is no need to when you have a location like this. We were able to bring in our own caterer which was nice to be able to have that choice, as well as having the tent rental included in the venue price. We can not recommend The Historic 1774 Inn enough. We are looking forward to returning for a weekend getaway and to celebrate future anniversaries!

If you are looking for a beautiful, authentic place to get married in Maine that holds on to what's real, what's special and what's slightly hidden, this is it. The inn is tucked away down a tiny road between to an old church and library. Sitting on a hill that slopes down to the Kennebec River, the view is like something from a postcard. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed and not "too done". We wanted our guests to feel like they were coming over to our house for the weekend and tucking into cozy food and long conversation. We wanted a celebration that reflected who were, who we loved and what we loved. Owners, Sarah and Stuart took over ownership of the inn shortly before we were married and they felt like an extension of our celebration. They are just a really kind, interesting, soulful couple that make a damn fine cup of coffee and even finer breakfast each morning. And Sarah baked us warm cookies and Stuart shared a celebratory late-night drink with us! Just like old friends would. We were married on the hill overlooking the river and then celebrated inside the rustic barn. We loved the barn because it's not too polished and we were able to decorate it with simple lights and foraged greens. Our wedding weekend was relaxed and memorable in a spot that for us was simply perfect. Lucky for us, it's an inn, so we can come back year after year to celebrate.
