We booked the 1774 Inn for our wedding in late May, and we are so thankful we did. From our first interactions with Marianne (part of the hospitality team) and Sarah (the owner), we were met with warmth, enthusiasm, responsiveness, and care. The site is STUNNING -- nothing can prepare you for the beauty of the land, water, and all the buildings on the property. You barely need decor because the scenery takes your breath away. We really loved the owner's dock, which she made available to us throughout our stay. I meditated there the morning before our wedding, and we did our first look there as well...watched over by a bald eagle, seals, cormorants, osprey, and songbirds of every kind. We received so much Maine magic; it was better than we dared to dream! The Inn itself is charming, lovingly restored, and so comfortable. We were obsessed with the Hayloft, which we turned into our private suite for the weekend, and I got ready there with my bridal party on the big day. This made it possible for us to look out at the river all day :) Every detail has been attended to, from steamers and coffeemakers to cute hangers for the wedding clothes. We loved how many plates/glasses/flatware were available, and it was wonderful to have a couple of big fridges and freezers, as well as a fully operational kitchen (the Hayloft has one as well!). Heating and cooling units worked great throughout -- and we needed both, since the weather fluctuated quite a bit during our stay. When you rent the Inn, you get the entire site from Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning, and we had so many cozy moments with our wedding party. The most special part of hosting here was having an entire weekend with our loved ones, where our bridesmaids and groomsmen became one big friend group. We loved how customizable everything was; we picked out everything from the furniture to the caterer to the flow of events around the property. If you're looking for an all-inclusive planning experience, you won't find it here, but if you want to design a wedding that is special and personal to you and your partner, it's the best place for it. I was initially nervous about the "build-your-own" structure, but it turned out wonderfully. A few things to note as you plan your wedding here: 1) Parking for a big wedding party can be tricky, but the Inn's excellent staff helps you figure everything out. Put everyone's car keys in the communal basket at the beginning of the weekend, and relax. 2) Local noise restrictions require that projected music ends at 9pm, with the party over by 10pm. We moved our timeline up so our ceremony started at 3pm and had a fabulous evening, but this could be a con for people who want to party into the early morning. We hung out with our other Inn guests until late, but the wedding was truly over at 10pm. Soooooo worth it for this special venue!!! 3) You need to hire a planner or weekend-of coordinator, and you'll be so thankful you did. We worked with Catie Fairbanks-Cliffe of Destination Maine Weddings (LOVED HER), and the Inn also has a great list of other coordinators, as well as an extensive trusted vendor list. We found many of our vendors through this list and felt calm knowing that all of them had worked with the Inn several times before -- they operated like one smooth system. A huge thank you to Marianne for her excellent tour and for coordinating with us throughout our planning; to Marilyn and Kim for their assistance checking in and preparing us for the weekend; to Wyatt for setup; and to Sonya and Kyla for working the venue throughout the wedding day. Sarah, the owner, is so warm and welcoming -- we appreciated all of her assistance as well! We had the best weekend of our lives at the 1774 Inn, and we recommend it with all of our hearts. Enjoy this extremely special place!!!!
