Wow. Just...wow. Mary Kate came in at the 11th hour when my original photographer was stranded in California due to an ice storm. She not only agreed to photograph my wedding with less than 1 day's notice, she agreed to match her contract terms to my original contract with the other photographer. She's amazing. She was both professional and fun during the wedding itself, and I was more than happy to have her be part of our celebration. And her photographs...! She did such an amazing job capturing the most beautiful moments of the day. Looking through the photos is like reliving the whole experience over again. I would recommend Mary Kate McKenna Photography to anyone and everyone. In a heartbeat. Twice. ;)

My husband and I had an in-town elopement at our church in December 2010. Since it was just the two of us and our pastor we wanted a photographer to capture the event so we could share it with our family and friends. Mary Kate was such a joy to deal with. Not only were the pictures BEAUTIFUL but she was truly excited to be a part of our day, and that meant a lot to us. As I looked through the photos I imagined my husband and I sharing them with our children and grandchildren some day. She even took the time to put together a slide show (with music) just a couple of days after our wedding (and just days before Christmas) so we could share the photos with our family. There were a lot of happy tears shed by the ones we love because of that slide show. Mary Kate is a joy to work with and we will absolutely hire her again down the road when we start our family!

Mary Kate was wonderful! We had her for our engagement pictures, our wedding pictures, and for our rehearsal dinner as well. She did a great job, and was very flexible and professional. We're very happy with our photos.

I was already a huge fan of Mary Kate McKenna before I even met with her. Admittedly, I kind of stalked her. But hey, I did something right because I had the most amazing pictures that perfectly captured the best day of my life. Here’s the rundown of how MK and I became acquainted. I realized early on in my wedding planning process that I wasn’t working with a huge budget. Once I dried the tears and slapped myself back to reality, I made a detailed list of my top priorities. Photography was at the top. I have 40+ Facebook albums and before posting I spend hours editing, cropping, etc. So, yes, I take my pictures very seriously. After following up on recs & going through photographer’s websites and portfolios for what seemed like eternity, I came across MK’s website and blog. I knew instantly I had to have her! Long story short, I sent her a long email asking her to please be our wedding photographer. (I might have also sent her pictures in that email of my dog as I knew she had a soft spot for animals.) She met with me a week later and if she thought I was a psychopath prior to meeting, I would have never known. Well, I am assuming she didn’t since she agreed to be our photographer. MK is genuine, has a heart of gold, is hilarious and has the most engaging personality. I had SO many of my friends telling me how much they liked being around her at the wedding. She has the uncanny ability to make anyone comfortable. MK’s work is a perfect reflection of what is happening at that instant. Her photos are able to capture those fine moments where words would only interrupt. She has the ability to let the story tell itself by documenting & presenting as is. Additionally, MK is responsive, incredibly professional, and her humble demeanor is a breath of fresh air. MK was an integral part to our big day and the pictures are incredible. I was a very lucky bride & definitely plan to stay in touch with her. Her style, hard work and keen attention to detail is evident in every picture. Mary Kate manages a laid back professionalism that would put any bride as ease. She is great to work with from start to finish - everything is so easy! Plus, her pictures were absolutely beautiful - I get so many compliments.

Mary Kate is a true artist! Her photos of our day are absolutely fantastic. I believe that (beside your spouse of course!) wedding photos are one of the only physical things you walk away from a wedding with. All that planning! It needs to be well documented and Mary Kate went above and beyond this wedding photographers expectations (that should say a lot!)
She came early, snapped away almost the entire time and was an absolute pleasure to be around. She was with me the entire time getting ready and around in more intimate moments of the day and in no way added any stress, in fact was relaxed, offered fantastic advice and helped to make the day a super special one!

Wow! We couldn't be more pleased with the photos that Mary Kate took of our family for our engagement. Mary Kate was easy to communicate with and flexible to our schedule. She was patient with us and the kids. I can't believe how quickly our time together went. I thought that she might have a dozen or so usable pictures, but we wound up with scores of great photos. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mary Kate or use her services in the future.

I had seen her work and just knew that she had to be the one to document our BIG day. When we met for the first time, she let me know that she was getting married the weekend after me, but was still willing to be our photographer. This is a person who truly loves her job!
From our engagement session to the end of our wedding day, she was nothing short of amazing. She was able to get every detail and make us feel comfortable while doing it. She was also a trooper as we trotted around Old Town on a 100 degree day in June.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful it was to have Mary Kate as our wedding photographer. Having a great photographer to document our day was the second most important thing to me, just behind being able to marry my best friend and celebrate it with our family and friends.

We heard about MK through Hotel Monaco-Alexandria, loved what we saw on her blog and knew when I met her that we’d want her as our photographer. From the initial meeting through now (a few months after our wedding), MK has been nothing short of awesome! She’s extremely enthusiastic and passionate about photography and people in general. She’s incredibly responsive, kind and, of course, talented.

We had an engagement photo session with her several months before the wedding and she was able to capture so many amazing moments with us and our pets. She makes it easy to be followed around by a constantly snapping camera! (We highly recommend including an engagement session in your photography package.)

On our wedding day, MK was one of the first vendors to arrive and one of the last to leave. Even though we had cameras on us the whole day, she made everyone comfortable and you would hardly know she was there. She and her second shooter captured amazing moments throughout the day. The photos are simply stunning! MK is a true photojournalist, and really captured the intimate style we were looking for. Every time we look through our photos, we feel like we're right back in the moment. She was great to work with and we would not hesitate to use her again - highly, highly recommended!

p.s. MK’s second shooter on the wedding day was the also very talented Jessi Ringer who traveled from TN to be a part of our day. They made a fantastic team and we just loved both of them!

Mary Kate McKenna was AMAZING! She is outstanding in all professional aspects (cost, communication, flexibility), but what sets her apart is her desire to get to know who you are and capture it in her pictures. She went beyond being just the photographer. And I was so impressed and far more than satisfied with her product. She captured so many wonderful memories for us!

Mary Kate is absolutely amazing. Not only is she incredibly talented - she's also an amazing person. She works with you before the wedding to get a sense of what's special to you and moments you'd like to capture. It had rained for several days before our wedding and it was at a venue with beautiful outdoor scenery - in a gorgeous grove of trees. She knew we wanted to have some candid shots taken there and brought rain boots for me to wear under my dress!!! If you're getting married in the DC-area (or anywhere for that matter), Mary Kate is the best. She helped make our day so special and the photos are out of this world!

Mary Kate was the most amazing photographer I have ever seen. If you are going to invest in one thing in your wedding, let it be her. She has a true gift of capturing every moment without you ever even noticing she's there. Her angles, the way she captures peoples faces...it's genuine, and I have never seen anything like it. Everyone I know has just raved when they saw our pictures, saying they are the best they've ever seen. It's truly an art and she has mastered it.
