About

Moments in Time, LLC started back in 2003 while I was a middle school teacher in Holland, MI. I predominately made slideshows for weddings and sport teams in need of highlight reels. It was a great side job while I was teaching full time. After a couple of years being in the slideshow business I saw how the slideshow and DJ business could become one.

I was one of the first to DJ and create slideshows from the same business. I was intrigued while in attendance at a wedding in Detroit. I couldn't believe I was seeing a DJ using a computer to DJ with. It happened to be the same computer I owned at the time. I started asking questions and it got me thinking (oh no!). It got me thinking that I could put together a DJ company here in West Michigan. I had most of the equipment and music from the slideshow business. I did just that, opened Moments in Time, LLC. My buddies say, "Moments in Time? What kind of girly name is that for a DJ company?" I like it! It is girly and it works great for weddings!! Whatever the girls want, the girls get. That's what my wife says anyways.

I began with one DJ set-up and have steadily grown the business to be one of the fastest, if not the fastest growing DJ business in West Michigan today. We have quadrupled our equipment and our wedding bookings in that time. The future looks bright. It better since I no longer teach anymore!! 2010 will be our 7th summer as a full service DJ entertainment company. I have surrounded myself with the best staff members! I know because I taught and coached some of them when they were in middle school. I'm only 36, but that makes me feel so old having my former athletes and students as employees! At Bridal Shows I still hear "Are you the teacher DJ's." I respond, "You're not one of my former students are you?"

We now cater to about 150 brides per year and host many other private events and school functions around West and Northern Michigan.  Believe it or not, I booked three of my former 8th grade students weddings during the summer of 2009.

Feel free to check our availability because we would be honored to work with you too!!

-The average price range in West Michigan is $500.00 to $1000.00. There are cheaper rates, but be careful of what you get with that service. You typically pay for what you get. Tips and Advice
A Gourmet Value Meal
By Joe Lober,
President of Moments in Time Disc Jockeys

During the past couple of years I have seen a transition from brides asking, “What do you offer?” to “How much does it cost?” It totally makes “cents” considering the economic hardships many couples are facing today and the strict budgets strangling us. Although it makes “cents” to ask about pricing, it probably shouldn’t be the sole determining factor for which service you choose. Pricing should only hold true when both services offer exactly the same quality of packages and services. Let’s dig in a little deeper and explore how every couple should be able to get a gourmet dinner at a value meal price. What really makes a great DJ service?

Let’s first consider what services are provided. If you were going to pick between the two services below better known as “Plate A” and “Plate B” as a dinner entrée, which plate would you choose for your guests? Wouldn’t you choose the plate that has the most “meat and potatoes” or would you choose the one having only a side of mixed vegetables? Sure, mixed vegetables are great but you really won’t have your guests leaving full!

“PLATE A”
"just mixed veggies"
(6 hour event)

*Show up and DJ your event

Price = $250.00 - $550.00

“PLATE B”
"all the meat and potatoes"
(6 hour event)

Prior to your event (approximately one month in advance):
* Face to face meetings
* Discuss detailed planning guides & itinerary
* DJ will organize detailed planning guides & itinerary
* Confirm event details with bride and groom
* Communicate with venue coordinator

During your event:
* Execute the plans and vision
* Set-up equipment hours in advance
* Meet and greet guests
* Perform music and or video entertainment
* Emcee event
* Close the event

After your event:
* Satisfaction survey follow-up

Price = $650.00 - $950.00

You want a personable DJ that is organized, prepared, and ready to execute your vision properly. This can only happen if your DJ service is willing to put in the “behind the scenes” time with each event. How many horror stories have you heard about DJ services showing up late, not at all, or without the first dance song? It’s scary to think that there are more stories like that, and you don’t want that to be you.

Consider how many hours a DJ will be playing and preparing for and whether or not that time includes set-up and tear down times. Now let’s refer back to “Plate A” and “Plate B.” Looking at the time a service provides preparing your meal for “Plate B”, the cost comes out to around $50.00 per hour, while “Plate A” service costs around $75.00 per hour. It’s ironic how the DJ that spends the most time gets paid less for more services. Let your wallet digest that one for a minute! When you think of it that way, you’re getting a gourmet meal for a value meal price. Spending just a little bit more will actually save you in many ways. Remember, don’t be another story!
The presentation of the meal is another important consideration. Would you like to serve your meal on fine china or paper plates? A good DJ service should provide the basic essentials at no additional charge. These basics include: LED lighting, wireless microphone, a professional grade sound system, and have digital music on hand with thousands of songs to choose from. Although these features will provide all you need for a great event, many services do provide upgrades and additional services to choose from. Lighting extras such as intelligent lighting, laser lighting, and up-lighting can be very costly and much like serving your meal on fine china. Fine china is not for all of us. If you do have the funds, additional upgrades such as initial lighting and music videos can enhance your dance floor in a more affordable way and may add the extra ingredient needed to spice up your meal.

So let’s think about it, do you want to overpay for a side of mixed vegetables on a paper plate or do you want a great meal deal served on fine china? Do your research and find the DJ service that will be putting in the work for you and making sure you are not just another story!
