Tips and Advice
Tips from the Cake Lady
The Cake Topper(Cake Top Ornament) ► It's a good idea to order/purchase your wedding cake topper at least one month in advance. Don't forget the weddingn cake serving set too if you have not received these as bridal shower gifts.
► Keep the size and weight of your wedding cake topper in mind for the top of your cake. A light (smaller) cake should not have a heavy ornament adorning it. Even if you use flowers on top, they should not make the highest tier look top-heavy.
► There are many types of wedding cake toppers as there are wedding cake designs. They include ceramic, porcelain, plastic and fresh or silk flowers. If you're using fresh flowers on your cake... ♦ Order the appropriate cake topper size for flowers and the type of cake you are having designed for you. Tell your florist what size the top tier is.
♦ Know how many flowers you need to order. You may want to order some greenery for the base of the cake and/or the middle tiers if your cake is not stacked.
♦ Communication between the bride, florist, and cake designer is of utmost importance! Be sure to listen to the designer's cake ideas while asking about some ideas of your own. Many times, couples have ideas that may sound great in theory, but they sometimes do not hold up well in reality.
