About Us
My love for photography began when I first looked through the lens of my father’s 1976 Canon. I was just over one year old. Just the fact that I remember this moment so clearly makes it magical to me. Photography was a primary interest of mine in school, and I developed a substantial portfolio of black and white portraiture before setting my camera aside to pursue other interests. After a few years, I felt the need to return to the thrill of photographing people, capturing those unforgettable moments that impact our lives for years. For me it is the relationships between people that mean the most to me. Having so many amazing opportunities to be the one to document such a huge event in my clients lives is always humbling and inspiring. And for the last 6 years I have had my own photography business in the Washington DC area, getting the opportunity to do just that. I am fortunate enough to have photographed not only weddings, but also many events around the Nations Capital. My love for photography has also been a wonderful way to open doors as a volunteer for many organizations that I deeply care about. I have also recently found my way back to shooting film. I have put aside my digital SLR (though I still use that for weddings and other events of course) and have picked up the ever famous Holga (toy) camera. In the world of digital photography and cameras where anyone can "be a pro" I am enjoying getting back to the roots of photography where a good image is made because the person behind the camera is deep in a creative process. And that process has elements not just of creativity and the eye that has to see an image before it's taken, but also an understanding of light and color... In moving back to film I find that I tend to choose my images a bit more carefully than I would if I was shooting with my digital camera. Not that I take images haphazardly per say, its just with digital you don't feel guilty shooting image after image after image until you get just the right one. With the Holga, I have to step back, breath, really take in my surroundings and think before I click! With the digital camera I see my result right away and can fix as I go. With the Holga I really have to know what is going to be on that negative as I am shooting. Granted there is still the element of surprise with the Holga, and that's why so many of us love them. I have been shooting with the Holga for almost a year and it has opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking through the lens and creating images. If I could shoot a whole wedding using JUST the Holga, I would. There is a freedom in holding a plastic camera that is known for it’s unpredictable images… there is no right or wrong with the Holga, just a space where imagination can run free, and the less constraints on this imaginative process, the better the image. With the artistic freedom of the Holga imagery paired with the amazing events of my clients wedding day, I feel that I am able to document each precious moment, as well as create artistic images that I know will be treasured by my clients and their families for generations to come.
