Why do people get so upset at people wanting a cash bar

where i am from it is concerned snobby and down right rude for a guest to expect a wedding to have a open bar.

i am trying very hard not to think poorly of those who are being well rude about those who seem to be demanding other girls to have one but the number of post on the issue is making it hard.

so people dont bite my head off.. i am having a certain beer and wine paid for by us (hard drinks in the middle of the day i find tacky anyways)

@Savannah....LMAO! I couldn't agree more. There is always a couple who is falling on the dance floor. In my younger days, it may have even been me.

@Savanna & Carole-it is so true though. My bro got married last weekend and out of 200 people there was one girl that made a total a** out of herself but it honestly was entertainment for us. People will get drunk and hammered if they want to. If its not going to be on the hard liquor at an open bar, they will get drunk on the beer.

I was at a beer and wine wedding this past weekend. People def didn't need the hard stuff before they were piling into the photo booth and onto the dance flo'.

My fh drives a hummer. How pathetic is he then? At least he drives an American Car! But to be fair I don't mind foreign cars. I don't think foreign cars are pathetic, but rude people I do.

Here's what I think...first of all we are having an cash bar as well. One reason is due to our budget. Next we have alot of guests who like to drink and we would end up broke footing that bill. Plus, we are offering coffee, tea, soda, and water with the meal. Also, doing a champange toast. If guests choose to drink, having the bar for them to purchase is a nice option and afforable to us, (it costs us $50 to have the cash pay bar open).

Honestly, I think it's rude for guest to expect booze at all.

Weddings are not free invitations to get hammered at someone else's expense.

@ Kittens ~ Reading Comprehension Fail. We've already covered that point. It's not about people getting hammered. If you refuse alcohol to your guests because you believe they'll get "hammered" if you don't, you might be hanging out with the wrong people. Just sayin'.

On another note, I'm not too surprised that Shannon C. hasn't come back to comment since her FS snatched up the mic. If my DS behaved so rudely (especially after I just posted the words "I am trying very hard not to think poorly of those who are being, well, rude...") I'd be too embarrassed to ever show my face here again. I mean, he made himself look like an ass, and made her look like a hypocrite. Ye-ouch.

And please, everyone, excuse me for thinking it a bit ridiculous to toss in your (obnoxious) two cents without at least browsing the discussion so you're sure you know what you're talking about. I beg your pardon.

Carole B, I was the one who said that about taking care of them and I don't think that it's a bad attitude to have. Sorry, but I disagree with you. I don't think it's our responsibility to pay for people to drink alcohol when it's not a necessity, especially if they are already getting beer/wine for the toast.

I will not be having a bar at all. I MAY have a champagne toast but that is still up in the air. I don't believe in drinking. The only reason I am considering champagne toast is because FH wants to. I don't think it makes me a bad host. I have more than made up for it with all the favors I will be giving. I think I have been to 5 weddings with cash bar and one with out. I didn't hear anyone complain either way, they were too busy being happy for the bride and groom.

Thanks to this thread I have started to hate and dislike my guests and now have decided to give them all a sack lunch and juice box and tell them to get the heck out of my face oh but not before they give me my gift!
