Sex in our vows?

Juile , on September 2, 2012 at 11:00 PM

I want fiance to commit to having sex with me a certain amount of times a week in our vows, would you consider this bad taste? It is really important to me because he has a lower sex drive than me and its something we often argue about.

I think as you or fiancé I'd be upset if you did this, and to set a number of times he's required to have sex with you really??? Perhaps you should invest in a toy... I think you are selfish for even thinking that way.

Not only distasteful but disrespectful to him. He can't help his sex drive!

I just couldnt help myself lol! In all seriousness, if this is something that is a deal breaker for you then its best to be sorted out before the wedding rather than expecting a vow to be held up for the rest of your life. Can you imagine if he complied and had sex three times a week without wanting to? My guess is that he would grow to resent it and you.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you two can reach a compromise without including that in your vows because I do find it distasteful.

How about you take the Christian Grey contract and read that as your vows? Its already summed up for you! No brain work needed!

Not trying to be harsh...but think long and hard about this...if he didn't agree to have sex with you so many times a month or week...would you be marrying him? This post just makes it sound like that is your only concern and honestly if this is maybe you two shouldn't be getting married. My FH has a much lower sex drive than I do...so I completely understand where you are coming from, but to me it isn't a deal breaker, I mean I wish it was more, but I'm still happy to be with him and we enjoy each others company...it isn't all about sex.

Pan, for once I wholeheartedly hope you're wrong.

But thanks ladies, this is better than a cash bar discussion.

I agree with Dminted, the agreed feeling is that to add something like that to your vows would indeed be bad taste. Many of the other comments posted in this thread are also however in bad taste. Julie I hope you are not deterred from using these message boards in future.

I some how think the OP has thought "long and hard". That seems to be the problem.

Kasey C- I was just thinking the same thing! I wasn't sure if the theme of the wedding was a 50 Shades of Gray Affair....

Ok, I think it would be a good idea to leave them out of the vows. Sex is very personal and the wedding isnt the right time to speak about it.

Most certainly not! Not only is it tacky but impossible to commit to. Especially if you have children. After kids, sex is very few and far inbetween. Especially in the first year. Get used to it. You CAN'T contract sex.

OMG ILMAO.. This is making me laugh.. sorry you need to remember there are people at your wedding watching this, that is not a good memory to leave with, it is the only thing they will remember. Not good. if there are issues with sex then that is a private convo slip some horny goat weed in his drinks daily. JK, but seriously do not do this. have a talk with him about it in private, that will really ruin his day and it's quite embarrassing. We all love sex, but if this is an issue now maybe you should think about those vows beofre going to the alter.

It is not everybody's business if you guys have sex or not. that is something that you discuss privately. the vows are not going to make him do it more, if anything i's gonna cause more problems, because if he doesn't feel like it, it's not gonna happen anyway. I wouldn't want to feel pressured that I have to have sex one more time this week or he may leave me. Remember the true reason that you are getting married! I hope it's not sex!

This must be a joke--Honestly, having a vow to have sex X's a week. Is very tacky-- If I were a guest and heard this. I would honestly laugh-- And possibly walk out. It is no one elses business how many times you have sex. I wouldn't want to announce that to your whole family. Think about it from a guest point of view--But this is your wedding, so do as you wish.

Before DH and I got together, we discussed this... When we first got together, we were on eachother like bunnies.. after a couple of years, it slowed down to maybe a couple of times a week.. so anyway.. we talked about what we expect out of eachother in marriage (IE: I was 3 kids, I want to raise them Christian, I prefer to cook than clean dishes..) and one of the things we talked about is how often we would like or expect to have sex. We both agreed that once or twice a week was realistic for us and, honsetly, after that talk we've been keeping pretty active! I don't think it's anything you should force your partner to promise to you, but it's rather a discussion you should be having..

You probably won't get it that exact number of times a week, it's not going to be the end of the world, sex life fluctuates with whatever is giong on in your life (the past couple weeks have been a big fat zero because I'm exhausted!)

So anyway.. it's a discussion.. if he can comitt to a certain number

Of times per week, he can do it outside of his vows. Your vows aren't the only promise or comittment you HAVE to uphold during your entire marriage.. you are liable to everything you say you'll do.

Additionally, if his sex drive is seriously far less than yours and you've tried everything to bring it up to speed, consider that he may not want it that often.. you may have to live with that and if you are planning to marry him, that will have to be okay with you.
