Modern Muse Beauty is a professional wedding makeup and hair company based in Austin, Texas that specializes in enhancing a bride’s natural beauty. Owner Katie Astoria believes each bride possesses features like her long hair, full lips, large eyes, or beautiful skin color that make her uniquely beautiful. It’s these features that Katie and her apprentice Chara Sroufe strive to bring forth in your hair and makeup look. Modern Muse Beauty gladly does makeup and hair for weddings, portraits, fashion, and all your special events.

Experience
Katie has loved all things hair and makeup since she was a little girl. After years in the business industry, she took a leap of faith and began pursuing a career in cosmetology. Katie received training from The Aveda Institute and from many leaders in the makeup industry. Today, she works as an independent hair stylist and makeup artist at a renowned Central Austin salon. Katie is also an Educator for Hothead Hair Extensions. Chara, who is training under Katie, received her cosmetology training from Avenue 5 Institute in 2016 and worked as an esthetician for the Paul Mitchell School before she joined Modern Muse Beauty.

Modern Muse Beauty can provide hair and makeup for you and up to 25 of your wedding party members. They pride themselves on coming to your location to deliver professional airbrush and contour makeup as well as gorgeous blowouts, hair extensions, updos and styling, and textured styling. Modern Muse Beauty also does keratin treatments, hair coloring, haircuts, and airbrush tanning.

Talented stylists! Amazing results!

Katie and the Modern Muse team are amazing! They made my wedding day even more special! Katie stepped in after the hair stylist I planned to work with wasn't able to make it. The trial was so useful to understand the range of makeup styles that could be used.

Katie is super easy to work with - reliable, responsive, and professional. She was so friendly with the bridal party, mom, and mother-in-law and made all of us feel at ease.

Would totally recommend Modern Muse for anyone looking to feel and look beautiful on their special day!

We had a destination wedding in Austin and I was not able to get down to do a hair and makeup trial until literally the week of my wedding. I found Katie through the recommendation of a friend and I am so, so glad I did. I'm actually sad I don't get to see her 3 times this week! :) We did my hair and make up trial on a Wednesday and since I am not an expert in either field I let her do her thing and was so thrilled with the results - there was not a change to be made! Friday she did my hair and makeup for my rehearsal dinner - a little sassier and a bright red lip and I was off! Saturday she was my saving grace. She and her team had a million members of my entourage to work on and they did so with grace and an amazing attitude. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, Katie would notice and make me laugh and put me at ease. She helped make my "pretty, pretty princess day" so great - I am completely convinced I will never look better! My makeup and hair lasted all night - probably because I told her I wanted to dance until my face melted off. Thank you so much for everything Katie!!

Katie and her team were wonderful beauty stylists on the day of my daughter's wedding. Katie was attentive and flexible to coming to our home the very early morning of a noon wedding ceremony. She and her assistants worked efficiently and good naturedly amidst small children underfoot and lots of excitement in the home. My daughter, the bride was pampered, as were her sister and sister in law...her matrons of honor. They all looked exquisite, and were so happy with their hair and makeup. Katie was very responsive in the months leading up to the wedding , whenever questions or scheduling tweaks occurred. Her personality is warm and caring, as well as assuring and confident The value for service was excellent. We are huge fans!

Katie did my makeup and hair for my wedding yesterday and made me look and feel amazing. My wedding coordinator had suggested her and I decided to book the trial on the day of our wedding shower so I could put the look to good use. Whenever I walked into my shower everyone was blown away by how great a job she did. She even changed up my hair at the end so nobody would know what the final look was.

Yesterday for my wedding she showed up right on time and ready to go. I loved her styling from the trial so much I decided to get my bridesmaids done as well. Katie made sure that all of us were looking good and ready to go by picture time and all the girls were thrilled with their hair. My makeup was absolutely flawless and my hair looked incredible. Everyone at the wedding had so many compliments I felt like a princess. I am so glad to have had someone as talented and fun as she was to help me look my best. I will definitely be calling her for any future events that I want to look gorgeous at!

Modern Muse Makeup was the perfect combination between professional and personal. Katie took the time to come up with a timeline for my wedding day which helped the day go smoothly and stress free. Katie was so good with all my bridesmaids and took the time to listen to all of their wants and ideas. I was so privileged to have my hair and make up done by Katie because she is so talented. She made me feel like an absolute princess and we had so much fun with her. I highly recommend Katie and her team because they are incredibly talented and capable of replicating any style you want.

I did a trail run with Katie prior to picking who I wanted to do it for my wedding. When I first met her I knew I liked her based on her personality alone but I also loved how she did my makeup. I brought her a picture of what I liked and she customized it for me so that I felt comfortable and beautiful. After the trial run I decide to go with her. Katie did my makeup for my bridal shot and wedding. Living out of town she was very easy to communicate over e-mail and the phone with. She also was very laid back and not pushy like other makeup artist I met. I really enjoyed the fact that she knew a lot about makeup, skin types, colors pallets and how to make everything just pop for photos. We had hired her to do makeup for myself, my Mom and three of my five bridesmaids. On the day of the wedding my other two bridesmaids saw how great she was making everyone look and decided they wanted their makeup done as well. This did not overwhelm her and knew how to fit us all in for the time that we had. I really enjoyed working with Katie and we all looked amazing! I would recommend Katie to anyone and would use her again if I ever needed professional makeup!

I used Katie for my engagement photo makeup as well as wedding day and after session photo makeup. We first met at her studio before my engagement photos, and she only needed a few minutes to determine exactly what would work best on my skin type and color. I immediately felt comfortable with her and trusted what she was doing with my face! There was only one thing I didn't like about the makeup and she fixed it to my liking without batting an eyelash, and remembered my preference for the wedding day. On the wedding day she and one of her other artists joined the girls and I while we got ready in my hotel room. They did makeup for myself and 5 other girls. Everyone loved how they looked once they were done & everyone said my makeup had never looked better. Not only did Katie do makeup that day, she helped with a few hair issues and other 'emergencies' that popped up, and when it came time for me to put on my dress they had already discreetly packed up and shown themselves out after a quick check to make sure nothing else was needed. My after session makeup was totally rockin'! I wanted more of a fun, rock look with a vivid and colorful eye and Katie sure delivered! She came to my house which was awesome - and was done super fast. She was ecstatic to be doing something so creative and 'out-of-the-box' this time around and did an amazing job. Katie truly has a passion for what she does and is a total sweetheart. She has a beautiful personality which I think helps her bring out the true beauty in her clients. I recommend Katie and her team of professionals to every bride and bridesmaid out there.

I never ever wear makeup, and half of the occasions where I have worn makeup have been disasters where I was told frequently that I really looked better without. Plus wearing makeup all day usually causes my face and lips to break out into an uncomfortable rash for a week afterwards. So I tried to play it cool when I was doing a trial run with Katie, but inwardly I was really doubting my decision to wear makeup at the wedding at all.

But Katie was so great at making me comfortable, making sure I was ok with the colors and overall look. And in the end, the makeup was much more natural than I'd ever had done before. Plus I didn't break out at all! She did forget to bring her notes from the trial on the day of the wedding, but was able to reproduce the same look from memory so it wasn't a problem. She was able to come on-site, which was very important to me. She also brought an assistant on the day of, and it helped us get ready even faster than I had planned!

Katie did the hair and makeup for myself (bride) and two of the ladies in my wedding party, and it was absolutely wonderful! She was very professional and worked hard to make sure every detail was perfect. The makeup came across beautifully in pictures and wasn't overly caked on. We had a fair amount of wind at our outdoor ceremony but my hair held up perfectly even after the reception was over.

In our trial session Katie took the time to really understand what I wanted and wasn't bothered by re-doing things to look at different options. She's a busy lady but at no point did I ever feel rushed and always had her full attention.

To top it all off she has a great personality and was a fun, calming presence in the nervous hours leading up to the wedding. I highly recommend Katie for any event or professional photos, and will definitely call her again.
