WHO pays for the TUX?
There are more bridesmaids then groomsmen so I'm feeling obligated to have less bridesmaids because my fiance thinks that the groomsmen have to have the tux paid by the him (the groom). Is this correct? My bridesmaids are going to be paying for their own dresses, since they are keeping it, so do the men rent their own too. Should I have to limit the number of bridesmaids because the groom has less people then I do, due to the cost?

My bridesmaids and groomsman are paying for their own dresses and tuxes. I've always heard that unless you have the money to pay for it all, then the attendants pay for it. The only wedding I've ever been to where no one paid for anything was for a very well-to-do family. hope this helps.

The groomsmen should definatly pay for there tuxes. If its a matter of cost to the groomsmen. You may consider the option of a suit coat and tie. Most men will have a blue or black, if not you can find one farly expensive and they will probably wear it again.

The wearer pays for his own tux, just as the leadies buy their own dresses.

Hi Meli,
The groomsmen should rent their own tux. Typically if you rent a certain amount, the Tux rental place will throw in the groom's for free too. So it will work out. :) And don't worry about uneven bridesmaids vs. groomsmen. Just have the people you want in it, to be in it. Plus the unmatched number of BM's versus GM's makes pictures more fun and unique! :) Let me know if you have any more questions.

When I got married 20+ years ago, we chose to pay for the dresses and the tuxes simply because we felt uncomfortable asking our friend to be part of our wedding, "and oh yeah by the way, it will cost you seventy-five bucks to do so." Plus I wanted total control over what dress was selected (my money .... my choice.)
.
However, I asked our tux shop owner (a friend of mine) how it was usually done and he said 98% of the groomsmen pay for their own tux. I asked him because my then-husband-to-be could not believe that a groomsman would pay for their own tux and he would be shocked to be invited to be in a wedding and be expected to pay for his own tux.
.
But he kinda grew up in a cave (meaning he was SO out of the loop on what was normal - he'd never been to a real estate open house 'coz he didn't know you could just walk thru someone's house!! omg!), so I forgave him for a lot of silly ideas he had back then! LOL!
