Pearls Events is an event planning boutique located in West Michigan, with offices in Grand Rapids and Holland. We plan, design & coordinate social events throughout the entire state of Michigan with couples located all over the Midwest.
Aletha VanderMaas fell in love with events while working a catering job in 1998. After earning her B.A. in fashion marketing in 2003, she accepted a position with the largest Christian communications company in the world, supporting their book marketing team.
In 2007 she infused her love for service, marketing & weddings by creating Pearls Events. Her desire to create an event that reflects the client and flows seamlessly is her number one goal.
Besides working, Aletha enjoys spending time with her husband while they work in their yard, travel the country and entertain friends at their home. They live in Grand Rapids with their Yorkie, Olive.
Kate Nguyen has been an event planner in the Michigan lake shore area for over three years, planning events for local companies, non-profits and individuals. It is not only her work, but her passion, to plan stellar events. Whether it be a company outing for eighteen people, or a non-profit gala for over 300 guests, Kate brings out the best in the client. She brings that passion to Pearls Events by planning fabulous weddings and social events for our clients.
When Kate isn’t working, she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, trying great food and wine. Even on her days off, she loves to entertain! Kate lives in Holland with her husband, Mat, and their Springer Spaniel, Obi.
It has been amazing and a privilage to watch Aletha build "Pearls Events" from literally her dream to what it is today. I still remember that first meeting at Olive Garden where there were a ton of us that just could not let go of our passion for weddings! In just the short year Althea has joined the ranks of wedding professionals in the area, she has done an amazing job in making wedding planning fun and personal, and she is not afraid to reach out or ask questions, bringing other creative talents together to benefit a bride/client. How many planners do you work with? The Pearls Events team is comprised of Aletha VanderMaas, the lead consultant, Kate Nguyen, the associate consultant, Alison Westhouse, Amy Vander Laan and Tara Romanowski. Each event requires a different number of team members in attendance.
What sizes of weddings have you coordinated in the past? We have planned and coordinated weddings with up to 400 guests.
Which venues have you worked at that you are familiar with? We have worked at various venues in the West Michigan, Kalamazoo, and UpNorth.
