Eco Friendly, Fair Trade, Sustainable, Organic, Green Wedding Flowers make a large impact on your wedding day. Our florists incorporate the following practices. Encouraging florists to research and provide environmental wedding flowers is a way to have a healthier world and wedding for your self and your guests.

Organic Flowers

Organic refers to a sustainable system of agriculture popularized in the U.S. by farmer and publisher J. I. Rodale in 1946. Organic farming seeks to work with nature, not against it, by utilizing agricultural techniques that build soil fertility and protect the surrounding air, water and wildlife. It emphasizes building healthy, rich soil to produce plants that are high in nutritional value and resistant to pests and diseases. The purpose of organic agriculture is to enrich the soil, minimize damage to ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, and maintain environmental quality.

Organically grown flowers and plants do not harbour hazardous fertilizers and pesticides. They can be safely composted with no fear of putting those nasty chemicals back into the soil.

Transitional Flowers

Transitional growers are adopting organic farming practices, have the intention of completing organic certification and who are currently under the oversight of a USDA accredited organic certification agency but are within the 3 year required process to reach certification status. Although there is no assurance the growers will achieve organic status, it is important to support growers who are dedicated to the process and have made the commitment to transition their farms to organic practices.

Eco Friendly Flowers

Products that are labeled “eco-friendly” are not certified by an official government or independent standard but are deemed sustainable based on one or more of the following practices: a) the use of materials which are recycled, recyclable, tree-free, biodegradable, compostable, post-consumer, wild crafted, all-natural, and/or printed with vegetable-based inks; b) manufactured or transported using carbon offsets, renewable or efficient energy, and/or little to no toxic chemicals; c) produced using organic farming practices but are not certified under the USDA National Organic Program; d)check to see if a portion of the sale proceeds are donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to wildlife & land conservation, ecological restoration, and environmental protection.

To reduce the packaging waste burden, fresh flower arrangements are created in containers which are biodegradable and can be safely composted. For wrapping and protecting beautiful bouquets, natural materials are used such as hessian, paper, cornstarch film, cotton, jute, raffia. All giving a premium quality finishing touch to the overall design. When decorative finishes are used in the designs, every effort is made to ensure that they do not add to environmental problems. On the rare occasion that this is not possible, try to replenish what has been borrowed from the environment, for example by planting a native tree or shrub.

Locally Produced Flowers

Locally produced flowers, foliage and plants make perfect environmental sense--they don’t spend days traveling so they’re fresher, they don’t incur air miles and they support the local economy.
Ask for local suppliers when you have the option.

Socially Responsible Flowers

Products that are labeled “socially responsible” are not certified by an official government or independent standard but are deemed worthy based one or more of the following practices: a) sourced from farmers and artisans who re-invest in the infrastructure of their local communities through education, healthcare, and/or economic development projects; b) sourced from farmers and artisans who are employed by companies that provide safe and just working conditions, a livable wage, and adequate health and education benefits; c) a portion of the sale proceeds are donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to social justice, human rights & welfare, and animal rights; d) produced without animal testing or cruelty and are either vegetarian or vegan.

Veriflora Flowers

Veriflora™ is America’s first comprehensive sustainability certification program for the floral and potted plant industries. The VeriFlora "Certified Sustainably Grown" label is your guarantee that flowers and potted plants have been produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner and meet the highest standards for freshness and quality. When you choose a VeriFlora product, you are contributing to a global movement to encourage companies to become sustainable. Already, this has resulted in significant and positive change for farmers, farm workers, and the environment.

Biodynamic Flowers

Biodynamics is the oldest sustainable system of agriculture practiced in the western world today, started by German philosopher Rudolph Steiner in 1924. The Biodynamic Method was later refined in the United States by Dr. Pfeiffer. In the late 1960’s and early 70’s, Alan Chadwick further developed the method into the Biodynamic French Intensive method of horticulture. Chadwick established a research facility and demonstration farm and garden at the University of California at Santa Cruz, which is now known as the Agroecology Program.

Fair Trade Flowers

Fair Trade is a growing, international movement which ensures that producers in poor countries get a fair deal. This means a fair price for their goods (one that covers the cost of production and guarantees a living income), long-term contracts which provide real security; and for many, support to gain the knowledge and skills that they need to develop their businesses and increase sales.

Fair Trade flowers are available. Working on the same principles as the more familiar Fair Trade coffee and tea, these flowers are superb quality and give much needed financial and ethical support to producers in developing countries. Ask for fair trade options when choosing your flowers.

Flowers Made with Organic Ingredients

Products that contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients can use the phrase "made with organic ingredients" according to the USDA National Organic Program.

GREEN Wedding Reception from Caterers to Gifts
Green Weddings     GO GREEN LIVE SUSTAINABLY

Organic, Fair Trade, Eco Friendly, Sustainable, Green Wedding Reception from Caterers to Gifts

When planning your wedding reception create what you have always wanted and then check and see what components of your event you can create Green.
Find a caterer who works with organic, fair trade, local when available ingredients and ask them to make your favorite foods.

Look for a picture of what you would like your wedding cake to look like and send it a baker that works with organic, fair trade ingredients.

Work to support your local vendors whenever possible by special ordering your eco friendly products through them. If you are having a destination wedding try to support your local vendors and the vendors at your destination.

When requesting items that are not available locally, look to support fair trade, sustainable, eco friendly, ethical suppliers whenever possible.

Use reusable items whenever possible.

Try buying cloth tablecloths and napkins picked out from the fabric store to be made into anything from curtains to dresses after the wedding. Find organic, fair trade fabrics to work with and ask a friend or hire a local seamstress to hem the ends. You will need approximately 3 ½ yards of fabric for each table cloth. Be sure and measure.

Have your table center pieces be live small trees or plants to send home with your guests to plant in memory of your wedding day. Choose organic plants or plan ahead and plant your own to nurture until the wedding day. Plant flowers to harvest your own flowers to decorate your ceremony and reuse for the reception. Buy local flowers from around town. Wild craft or harvest you foliage for the greenery to mix with your flowers or ask your florist to request wild crafted ethically harvested greenery and to use an organic fair trade flower supplier. They are out there and their prices are comparable and in some cases less expensive.

Use sustainable, ethically harvested paper products for your invitations, announcements, directions, programs, and welcome letters for destination weddings and out of town guests. Be creative, my favorite is eco friendly paper with seeds and small flowers embedded in, your guests have the option of planting the paper and seeing a beautiful flower garden grow from you wedding paper.

Look on line for locations that are already following eco friendly, green practices. If you find that perfect location inspire them to become eco friendly and green for more than your wedding. From lodging, restaurants, wedding ceremony and reception locations go green.

Supply your locations with natural cleaning products for before and after the event, from window cleaner to toilet paper, inspire your vendors to go green and protect your guests from toxic chemicals. Check and see that the dishes are washed with natural products and do not smell of chemical dish soap.

Greet your out of town guests at the airport or train station with a welcome basket consisting of natural tooth paste, tooth brushes made from recycled materials, organic fair trade chocolates, organic sprouted seed bread, organic olive oil, finest locally produced organic raw cheeses, organic non canola oil cereal, organic green tea and coffee, recycled napkins, recycled natural non GMO organic plastic spoons, forks and knifes. Organic milk product. Blue Agave or local raw honey sweetener for the tea and coffee. Natural coffee cups and bowls. A welcome letter printed on ethically and sustainably harvested paper products.

Make a wish list or theme for your wedding gifts so your guests know what you are wanting. From organic linens to organic non GMO garden themes your guest will want to know what you want for your wedding gifts.

Thank you,

The Wedding Bands will compose a set that is perfect for your wedding. From love favorites such as Nat King Cole to all Original music made just for your moment.   With instrumentation ranging from Harp and Guitar to Ukulele, Cello, udo drum, table harp, keyboards, etc...

The Musicans are sensitive to the moments and intuitive.

Mateus Kotok is a gifted and versatile artist, a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and founder of Indi Script Records. His 2003 solo album, Indi Script, is an indescribably eclectic CD written, performed, and recorded entirely by him. Even the paintings that grace its cover are his. Playing guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and percussion, Mateus creates positive, eminently danceable grooves to accompany his dreamlike lyrics.

Mateus lives on the Hawaiian island of Maui, where he is given inspiration from the beauty and serenity of the environment that surrounds him and from the many talented musicians with whom he collaborates. His current bands play live in Maui.

Influenced by Bob Marley, John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Toy Dolls, Fear, and Bad Brains together with sounds as diverse as Mozart and Motown, he listens to hip-hop artists like Goody Mob and Dead Prez Eastern Bellydance and many other types of music.

Born in Ogden, Utah, in 1971, Mateus Kotok has a performer’s pedigree. His mother Judy is an actress who sent him to acting school and found television work for him when he was a child. His father Nick is a bluegrass musician who recorded for Capitol Records in the 1960s. He provided young Mateus with a wide variety of instruments and ample encouragement. As a high school graduation present, he gifted Mateus’ first solo record, an album by his punk band Drastic Measures.

Moving to Seattle in 1990, Mateus spent ten years working and performing amid the music scene there. After his alternative band MindSpice released a self-titled CD in 1992, he was approached by Atlantic Records but, true to his independent nature, he declined their offer so as to preserve artistic control. While in Seattle, Mateus recorded with and learned from such musical friends as Brian StingShark, Kaya, Wailers nayahbhingi drummer Ras Menelik and P-Funk keyboardist Uzziel Levvi, in addition to blues rocker Geoff Krauss, ragga star Rocker T, songwriter and dub artist Somesh, and ADX.

Mateus relocated to Maui in the year 1999. He is looking forward to working with many more new and established artists and to traveling and performing both in the United States and internationally. Please contact Indi Script Records for information about booking and CD distribution.

Mateus Kotok has 17 all original personal record albums of a variety of styles of music. To hear samples of his music go to his myspace page and link to his top friends. Each record album has Mateus Kotok’s all original art and music. Mateus has produced music professionally since 1999 and is owner of Indiscript Records.

SHELL LEIS

Ni’ihau Kahelelani Shell

Ni’ihau Kahelelani Shell translation is "pathway to heaven" while the traditional Hawaiian translation is "the royal going". An ancient chief of Niihau was named Kahelelani, and there is some debate as to whether the shells were named after the chief.

"A Niihau Kahelelani Shell lei is an intricate, individual, hand-sewn perpetual lei made from the tiny shells which populate the beaches of Niihau Island, and each piece of jewelry is unique owing to the selection of shells and the artisan who creates with them..."

Tiny kahelelani are the most difficult to collect, sort, pierce and string, which makes them the most expensive of all Ni’ihau shell lei. Niihauans differentiate between many different kahelelani colors and patterns. The most common are the white kahelelani ke’oke’o and the dark red kahelelani ’ula’ula. Rarest is the kahelelani ’akala ikaika (strong pink) which is worth three times that of other colors.

Sunrise Shell

According to Hawaiin legend, considered sacred, Sunrise shells were only worn by the Royal Family. Named "sunrise" because the sun’s morning rays reflect off of these beautifully colored shells.

Kahelelani Sunrise Shell Lei with White Fresh Water Pearls

In Traditional Hawaiian Wedding Ceremony the female chooses her husaband, showing her choice by the giving of a lei to her love. Our ceremonies can begin with a lei exchange with the giving and recieving of the Maile Lei to the groom and the flower lei to the bride or for a more long lasting Lei the exhange fo Kehelelani Shell Leis for the bride and groom are available. Each Kahelelani Shell Lei is all original and designed for your ceremony.
