Endorsements
David Swirsky of Expressway Music is extremely passionate about music, and his whole-hearted love for his work is evident both in his style, and the special treatment his clients receive. I worked with David at a wedding on Shelter Island, and it was one of the most festive, fun-filled events I photographed that entire year. I know this was hugely due to David's awesome music selection, which had absolutely everybody on the dance floor. My client confided in me afterward about how much she loved working with David, and I agreed he had been an excellent choice! In subsequent meetings, I have found him personable, professional, and extremely passionate about his work. I strongly endorse him and Expressway Music!
I really enjoyed working with Expressway - they have a nice style and don't take over the entire event. His music selections really had the party going and it was a great mix. I've recommended them to clients in NYC.
David Swirsky and his team at Expressway provide quality through and through. Their impeccable musicality combined with their desire to make every single client happy is what sets them apart from those "other" DJ companies. There are certainly brides out there that cannot afford to have a band and fear those "cheesy" DJs and anytime I've presented Expressway to them, they book on the spot. Expressway provides a classic/elegant and mature alternative without hurting your pocket. The best part: they really know how to get a crowd on the dance floor, keep them there, and making them beg for more! I personally enjoy working with them from beginning to start and know that I am always guaranteed to be tapping my foot, bouncing on heels, and shaking my head to their beats.

Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
What music genres are in your collection?
50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Folk, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Pop, Punk Rock, R&B, Rock, Soul, Swing, World

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Describe your DJ style:
Elegant and fun. We don't believe the dj should be the focal point of the wedding. Our dj's also will make all necessary announcements and introductions and then put the microphone away.

What is your usual attire?
We ask the bride and groom to choose. Usually a dark suit with or without tie. Sometimes a tuxedo.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Only if it's extremely obscure and impossible to find.

How many other DJs do you work with?
We have 8 dj's on staff that have all been recruited and or trained by owner/dj Dave Swirsky.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
We encourage it. We are located on 42nd street and Madison which is across the street from Grand Central Station. We usually set up meetings with clients after work Monday thru Friday.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Absolutely. We also have bi-lingual dj's.

Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes and we arrive well before guests to set up.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
We offer lighting, video services, karaoke and more.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
We usually bring our own table. We arrive very early to set up.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
no.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
All of our dj's can make the necessary announcements but we put the microphone away after that. We do not talk between songs or beg guests to dance. We know from experience that playing great music is the best way to get guests to dance.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
No.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Absolutey.

Tips and Advice
When interviewing dj's ask why they got involved in dj'ing in the first place and particularly wedding dj'ing.
Also ask them what skills they have that make them good at what they do and how their skills differ from other dj's.
The answers should be more illuminating then any demo video or reference would be.

Many ask us the difference between a wedding dj and a club dj. While both our technically dj's they are in two diverse industries and require two completely different skill sets. Club dj's usually don' t have as much interaction with guests as wedding dj's. The club dj is typically in an isolated booth removed from the guests. A club dj also usually plays a much narrower music list  that is designed for a very specific age range/clientele(i.e 22 to 26 ) then a wedding dj who plays music for all ages and ethnicities. The songs a club dj plays usually last  7 minutes or more each while a wedding dj is typically playing songs from 2 to 4 minutes and a variety of styles with a lot of stops and starts inbetween in a shorter span of time.

Be wary of dj's that offer various "packages"(Meaning a predetermined price for each service that is presented in a condensed "package" that will often not reflect what will work best for your party). Often the music these dj's play will also have a "canned" or "packaged" feel to it. Meaning that they will often play the same songs for your party that they do at every other party neglecting the uniqueness of your particular party(guests, venue, your tastes etc).
