Is David's Bridal that bad?

Alicia, on January 13, 2015 at 9:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 80

I hadn't planned on going to David's Bridal because I've had people tell me that I shouldn't go there and I've read people online saying they refuse to go there because of some bad experiences. But a lot of women get their gowns from David's and at good prices.

If you went to David's Bridal, how was your experience?

If you are refusing or did not go to David's Bridal, why?

I went because I wanted to experience it myself and not go based off of what everyone else said and it was really as bad as they say. The dresses to me weren't that much cheaper.

I went to DB for my BM and their customer service was awesome...We ordered 2 of the 5 BM dresses and they came in 3wks later.

I think it really depends on the individual store. I didn't go there for my dress (I went to brides against breast cancer), but we did go there for my accessories, my shoes, the bridesmaid dresses, the bridesmaid shoes, the flower girl dress, and the ring bearer dress.

All in all, the experiences weren't awful. We got all the dresses in the colors I picked, in the time frame quoted to us. I was able to bring in my dress, put it on, and shop for the veil, and petticoat and shoes, without issue.

The only thing I have to complain about is they do a lot of follow up calls, to see if you need anything else from them. I think I may have gotten those because I didn't get my dress there... like I think it was weird in their system for their to be bridesmaid dresses, but not a wedding dress. :/

I heard the same thing, but I went anyway. Smiley smile I had a great experience there. But like any retail store (chain or not), it can be hit and miss. My only advice would be to make sure you have an appointment before you go in and try to go during the week night. This way, not only is the store less packed, but you get more personal attention because you have an appointment with them. I ended up finding a dress with them that I'm completely happy with. Good luck!

Everyone has a different experience, but I wasn't happy when I took my jr's in there for dresses.

I would say it's not terrible, but it definitely isn't the same experience you're likely to get at a small boutique.

I bought my dress there. I didn't have a terrible experience, but I wouldn't say I had a good experience either. The problem is they're a big box retailer, they're like the Walmart of wedding dresses. You get good prices and a variety of choice, but you sacrifice customer service and that personal touch. If you're looking for the fairy tale "Say Yes to the Dress" experience, skip David's.

My experience at David's bridal was great! They truly listened to what I wanted in a dress and I ended up buying the first one I tried on. They have a promotion online if you print you get $50 off your gown. The main reason why I love David's bridal is if you lose weight they can take in your dress up to 2 sizes without altering the way the dress looks. If you need it taken in more than 2 dress sizes they order you a new dress in the correct size free of charge. Also if you buy your dress there and you find bridesmaid dresses there too, then each bridesmaid gets $20 off their dress, same for mother of bride/groom dresses too! Good luck!!!

I got my dress there and had an awesome experience. I think it depends on the specific store/consultant you get, though. I went to a boutique too, and it was also awesome, but "my" dress was at DB. I wouldn't write them off. They have a large selection and usually have multiple sizes so anyone can really try on the dress.

It really depends on the associate you're 'assigned' and the branch I think. I bought my dress there because there are very few bridal shops in my area and the first time I went in to try on dresses it was great. My associate was friendly and very personable. The second time.. meh. I could definitely tell the 99% about what the associates were thinking was "make the sale, make the sale.." My Dad even commented that I brushed off her insistence in purchasing shoes, a belt (I didn't want), and veil that day with a calm ease that only came from knowing what to expect. Take it with a grain (or spoonful) of salt..

It's not bad at all! The wedding dresses are at good prices and the quality is good too. However, I think their veils and belt sashes are overpriced. I once had to buy a bridesmaid dress there for a friend's wedding and that dress was overpriced too. So if you do go there, just stick to the wedding dresses.

I think it really depends on the location. I bought my dress from DB and they were amazing. The consultant helping me find a dress went above and beyond for me. When I went back to exchange my dress they still gave me the best experience. I say at least go and try it out for yourself.

I went because they had amazing prices. The service was okay, I think the consultant was new though so she got a pass. But I didn't like the overall experience. AA was much better although i did not buy my dress from there.

I had a great experience there. I had a great consultant and I think she really listened to what I wanted. I only went there once and found my dress. I would give it a try, worst thing that happens is you waste a couple of hours.

I went there and my experience was BAD. Did I get a great dress at a great price-yes.

Was it worth me almost killing the staff there and multiple phone conversations that made me feel like my head was going to explode-I guess so.

I went to DB just to see if it was THAT BAD.

The consultant I had was very sweet and she listened to me. I had a really fun time shopping there.. Please not, I normally hate shopping.

It really does depend on the location.

I got my dress there. If you live in a more urban area go on a weekday or early in the day if you can. I had good luck on a Friday morning, but the place was a zoo both times I went on Saturdays (waited 45 minutes to be helped WITH an appointment, confused and crabby staff, etc.).

I did get less personal attention at DB vs another boutique I went to, since the associates help multiple brides at the same time, but the dress was a quarter of the price, so it was worth it.

I have gone to 2 different ones in 2 different cities 5 hours apart from each other and had a wonderful experience at both of them. I was treated so well and felt beautiful in everything. They made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. My bridesmaids have all gone on their own to get there dresses and all had the same treatment as I did. I purchased my dress from there for $549. I had a better experience there than I did at one of the "fancier" sought after boutiques in the metroplex.

I really think its all situational any where can be bad and anywhere can be good. Just go in open minded and forget what everyone says.

    Good Luck!

From what I've heard, it really depends on your individual store. I got my dress and 4 BM dresses from DB, and had varying experience with consultants. I would suggest double checking your order to make sure the size, color, etc. is correct, and then checking everything before you take it out of the store too. But I got a dress I liked at a good price, so I can't really complain. And I would check things regardless of the store; that's not necessarily specific to DB.
