Is David's Bridal that bad?

I hadn't planned on going to David's Bridal because I've had people tell me that I shouldn't go there and I've read people online saying they refuse to go there because of some bad experiences. If you went to David's Bridal, how was your experience?

If you are refusing or did not go to David's Bridal, why?

I went twice. Once I went in the morning on a weekday and the experience was fine.

The other time I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was absolutely awful. I went with all of my BM's and we had an appointment. We had to wait in the maybe 10-person long line just to get up to the podium to check in. Then we had to wait 30 minutes for our "consultant." By that point we had already walked through the store amongst the million of other people and chose which gowns we wanted to try (bridesmaid dresses). We basically just pointed and she pulled them. We had to wait for ONE dressing room to be available and so all my girls filed in and put them on. As we went through the process the store was hot, dresses were thrown everywhere, kids were laying on the floor screaming... Ugh. My MIL went to look at a dress that was on a rack and another customer grabbed it off the rack and yelled at her. It was just awful.

We did end up going with DB dresses for price. 3 out of 4 of my BM got their dresses and they were too small - even though the size they tried on in the store fit.

I should add that this was at the Glen Burnie, MD location. It is definitely on the "not as nice" side of town. You should visit Alfred Angelo, it's right down the street, similar prices, and much better service (and crowd).

Go see for yourself! I had a couple DB experiences, just go during the week when it is slower and you will get the attention you need. I went on the weekend for my dress (didn't purchase from them) and my consultant was busy but very good at managing her time. then I went BM shopping and that consultant SUCKED balls (it was a Saturday). just yesterday I went again and it was so quiet and my consultant was great! she made sure I was happy as I was having some trouble with the girls pre-appointment that I warned her about.

I absolutely refused to go there for my dress. I was open to going there for BM dresses because both my BMs are on tight budgets. However, one of my BMs who has been a BM many times said hell no. She's broke as a joke and said she'd rather pay boutique prices than ever set foot in a DB again. She's been there with friends shopping for their bridal gowns, and also for BM dresses, and had nothing but horrible experiences. Cherry on top was the time she was there after knee surgery and was on crutches and in a lot of pain. Completely ignored... no one even asked if they could get her a chair.

@ Snarky- I guess it really depends on the consultant you work with and the day of your appointment. I also went to the Alfred Angelo store in Glen Burnie, both as a bride and a bridesmaid on multiple occasions. I personally have had nothing but terrible experiences from that Alfred Angelo location, but know others who had a wonderful experience.

I went to DB for mine and they treated me so great! I really enjoyed the gal that helped me, she did 2 of us at one time and still made me feel like I was the only one she was helping!

My suggestion is to go try it out for yourself! Everyone takes things in differently. You may love it!

I wasn't going to to David's bridal after a bunch of people scared me out of it. However I went anyways and had the best time. It was an amazing day and I found the one! I guess it depends what store you go to but it was the ultimate dress expierence for me. I felt great!

I should also note that while you might be able to get a killer deal on a dress at DB, I find their veils and accessories to be outrageously overpriced for really really mediocre stuff. You can get better from ebay, etsy or any china wholesaler seriously.

I heard bad things and planned to not go there too. I went to a wedding I became filled with jealously because I loved her dress. After getting engaged I asked her where she got it. I was shocked to hear it came from David's Bridal. I made an appointment for a Sunday. Sunday wasn't too busy. My appointment started late because the bride before just couldn't make up her mind. My consultant was working with me and another bride. I kind of liked having her busy with someone else so I can talk to my family about what we really thought of the dress and price without her trying to sale me on everything. The downside was the other bride brought her fiance and they both had no problem displaying their disgust for the dresses she was trying on. Some dresses are pricey. They have some Vera Wang's in the $1,000s. My Vera Wang was originally $1,200, but they were having a sale. I got it for $650. For a nice dress I would expect to pay about $400 there. If you go on a weekday consultants only work with one bride at a time. The staff was nice. I haven't had a problem with the staff yet. Go in for alterations in April.

I bought my dress and the entire bp dresses there. I had a good experience and loved my dress and they have a lot of options.

I went there before I was engaged. Haha...I knew I was close to an engagement though and I wanted to start early and yeah I did everything that you're not supposed to. Besides the point...anyways...the consultant that I got was really rude BUT I think it was just my location. I noticed a lot of the people were new there and didn't know what they were doing but I'm sure not every single Davids Bridal is like that.

When I actually got engaged and went to go get my dress I went to a boutique and had an amazing consultant and the best experience! I just loved it and they were super helpful but if you want to go to David's Bridal then I say go. No harm in going and looking. You might find exactly what you want!

I used to think the same thing about DB. I went to two different DBs and had a good experience with both shops. What I like about DB is the wide variety of dresses which range from $100 - $1300+ I also explained to the consultant that I had buyers remorse about my first dress and she didnt pressure me into buying anything right away which I really appreciated. Ended up buying a Oleg Cassini gown that I love 10 times better than my Maggie Sotterro gown. Id say give it a try!

I'm sure it depends which ones you go to. My experiences were in the Greensboro location. The first time I went with my mom and dad for a spur of the moment thing where I tried on 5 gowns. We had a great consultant but you can tell they are on commission there so I was pressured to make a follow up appointment to try on more dresses if I wasn't going to buy one that day.

I bought my gown at a different store but we went back to the same DB to look at FG dresses for my sister. The manager was super rude and refused to let a woman on her lunch break just look at wedding dresses on the rack and said she has to come back later for a full appointment.

We purchased the FG dress that day and came back for a third time to get MOB dress and pick up ordered FG dress. The really nice consultant from before gave us a 20% coupon for next purchase so we tried to use that on my mom's dress and that rude manager said it doesn't count if the bride didn't buy her dress there. We said we were already paying customers and got the FG dress from them. She then proceeded to harass me about why I didn't get my dress from them?! We still bought the MOB dress but were really not happy with our experience there.

ETA: We never considered buying bridesmaid dresses there because I didn't like any of the shades of purple that they had.

It all depends on where you are. The DB near me is absolutely amazing. I have no complaints about that store.

I got my dress from davids bridal! not only was it on clearance and I got it for $450, but I got a 6 month interest free DB credit card, and all my BM dresses are $20 off, and even my groomsmen get a discount at mens warehouse! I've had a great experience thus far!

My sister went there for her wedding dress. My Ma had made her an appt and my sister didn't know. Well, we walked in and the consultant thought we didn't have an appt and was SO rude it was awful. Then my mom walks in tells this LOVELY consultant that we had an appt. It was like a flip switched. She was trying to put a veil on my sister and accessories and actually helping her pick out dresses. By this point it was too late... Over it and over that store. They have beautiful dresses but that experience left an awful taste in my mouth.

I went to and purchased my dress from DB. Although I ended up purchasing the dress online due to 50% off sale, my visit to the store was a good one. My MOH also purchased my sash from DB but in the wrong color. They were very accommodating in letting me exchange it for the right color.

I went there once but did not buy my dress there.

I gave them a chance even knowing their reputation. I am about 2 hours away from the closest one and I went there in the early stages of dress shopping - only knowing a little bit of what I was looking for. I got to the store about 15 minutes before closing, which I only realized when I arrived and saw the hours posted. Knowing that they were closing shortly, I quickly scanned a rack to see if there was anything that caught my eye.

A woman came over and informed me that they were closing and I would need to make an appointment for another day (she didn't greet me at all - pretty rude). I told her I was from out of town and just wanted to scan quickly and she told me I did not have time. So I left. And I never went back. I thought she was incredibly rude. I will never do business with them.

I had an awesome experience with DB's and no complaints at all! I would say leave extra time before and after your appointment, go as relaxed as possible and only bring who you really need (space is small) and enjoy it! Might as well try out your DB's just to make sure your dream dress isn't waiting for you there!
