The Mill at Fine Creek is an impressive wedding venue based in Powhatan, Virginia. Nestled on 10 acres of green landscape scattered with walking paths and historical ruins, this location offers a one-of-a-kind location for weddings. It hosts only one event per day, allowing couples and their guests to enjoy the occasion and grounds in privacy.

Facilities and Capacity

The venue can accommodate up to 225 guests (150 seated) and offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces. Couples have a choice of three outdoor ceremony sites, with original stone facades and surrounding trees creating a glorious backdrop for the occasion. Inside, the main event room boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and open spaces. This venue is happy to welcome outside vendors for the event. Get-ready rooms are available for the wedding party. This 6,500 square foot wedding destination can take care of the setup and breakdown of the event, and offer items such as:

Cuisine

This venue offers fresh catering options provided by the in-house culinary team, led by owner and chef Lisa Benusa. The kitchen offers a range of menu options, for buffet-style dinners, plated meals, and hors d'oeuvres. These menus are also customized by engaged couples to suit their tastes. While this venue does accept outside cakes, couples can avail of the services of our pastry chefs for their wedding dessert.

This venue also offers bar services carried out by professional staff. In addition to a range of wines and liquors, they also stock locally brewed craft beer made on-site at the Fine-Creek Brewing Company.

Accommodations

The Mill at Fine Creek offers on-site accommodations with 13 private cottages available to rent. Guests can expect a vintage country feel with antique-style furniture and comfortable furnishings. Each cottage contains modern facilities such as heating and air conditioning, and cable television, along with luxurious touches such as cotton sheets and branded toiletries.

History

Dating back to the 1730s, The Mill at Fine Creek is a part of a recognized historic locality. A gristmill was erected on the land after which, people began to settle in the area. The property was used for residential purposes was when President Thomas Jefferson’s father, Peter, built a manor with his wife, Jane Randolph. While this house was burned by a fire in 1928, many of the archaeological remains are there today.

Wonderful experience

We found the Mill while searching venues and knew the minute we set foot on site that we were going to go with them. The entire place is beautiful and we loved the options for ceremony sites - we were fortunate that the weather held for us and we had our ceremony in the Mill ruins as planned. The majority of our guests were from out of state and the on-site cottages were a key factor for us. Everyone loved the cottages, the venue, the brewery, and everything. Our day-of coordinator, Abby, was lovely to work with and it was such a relief to have her handle everything to make sure they day went smoothly. The food was AMAZING and we had a great time planning the menu. Our guests could not stop complimenting the food, drinks, and entire experience. We also appreciated their willingness to accommodate gluten free options, as I am Celiac. The majority of our menu was made gluten free, and the entire staff made sure that I knew what wasn't and brought me separate, gluten-free portions of both the passed appetizers and the main meal. Our cake was entirely gluten free, absolutely beautiful, and delicious! No one even realized it was gluten free, which is a feat. Overall an excellent spot, and we'll continue to visit the brewery in months to come! Cannot recommend them highly enough.

Perfect Wedding!

The Mill at Fine Creek was the perfect wedding venue. Many of our guest said it was one of the best weddings they’d been to. The food was excellent and the staff made everything run so smoothly. Our coordinator, Lexi, was fantastic leading up to and throughout the event. She answered all of our questions promptly, and helped us think through all the details. The chef helped us create a unique menu and even cooked a favorite recipe of ours that we gave him. The cottages were great for guests to stay at and the Millers Cottage for us as a couple was incredible. The Mill really knows how to manage details and the space itself is incredibly beautiful. We didn’t need much in terms of decoration to pull the space together! The list of vendors The Mill works with were also incredible. We can’t thank The Mill enough for helping us create a day we’ll remember forever!

Our Fairytale Venue!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with The Mill! From booking to the big day, everything was seamless and stress-free. Our day-of coordinator, Lexi, was incredible — she went above and beyond to help us through stressful moments, made sure every detail was perfect, and kept everything running smoothly.

The food and cake were amazing, and our guests are still talking about how delicious everything was. Communication was always easy, and we truly felt supported from start to finish. The venue also included so much beautiful décor, which made planning and decorating so much easier for us.

One of our favorite parts of the venue is its natural beauty — the stunning landscaping, the peaceful creek, and the overall atmosphere created the perfect backdrop for our ceremony and photos. It felt magical! We also loved that there were cottages available on-site, which made it convenient for us and our guests to stay and enjoy the full experience together.

Everything about our wedding day was perfect, and we’re so grateful to Lexi and the team for making it all happen. We can’t recommend The Mill at Fine Creek enough to anyone looking for a venue that combines breathtaking scenery, amazing food, and an incredibly supportive staff! 💍🌿✨

Wouldn't change a thing

I mean...wow. I couldn't say enough good things about our experience with the Mill. We got married there in December and it was absolutely magical. The scenery there is breathtaking! Even though it was only 30 minutes away from where we live, it felt like we were hours away from the city. The all-inclusive aspect (food on-site, day of coordinator) took a huge weight off of our shoulders and made the planning process so easy. Also, the cottages were so cozy and convenient for our families to stay in. We're already planning on staying there for our anniversary next year.

The food! Everyone will be telling you how good their food was. Truly, wedding venue food has no business being this good. And Pierre, their pastry chef, can make the most delicious and beautiful wedding cakes I've ever seen. 12/10. Their culinary team is unmatched.

Our day-of-coordinator, Jeannie, was the best!!! Her and her team kept everything running smoothly throughout the whole day into the night - I never had to think about what time it was. Knowing that I could trust her to take care of everything really let me relax and enjoy the day. Could not recommend this place and these people more!!!

Amazing Experience!!

I cannot recommend the Mill enough. We have them what we wanted and then they took care of EVERYTHING to the most minute detail! It was so nice to get to be present on our day and let them sweat the details! Beth, our coordinator through the Mill, was amazing! The food was SO GOOD and we got to pick exactly what we wanted. Plus, it’s beautiful!

The Best Venue in the RVA Area

We knew we wanted to get married at the Mill before we even got engaged. It is such a perfect wedding venue with beautiful grounds- there are so many great spots for photos and to have your ceremony. The staff are wonderful. Melissa gave us multiple venue tours before booking and she was so patient while answering all of our questions. Beth the coordinator was such a joy to work with and made us feel like we could just relax on the day of our wedding and not worry about a thing! She was attentive to our needs and very organized. Our guests loved the food and Lisa and her team did a wonderful job with planning our menu. We received so many positive comments about the bartending staff as well! If you are looking for a beautiful, all-inclusive venue with a getting ready space, on site accommodations, top notch food and bar menu- The Mill at Fine Creek is the best spot in Richmond.

Just Perfect!

From the day we visited The Mill at Fine Creek, we received nothing but professionalism, attentiveness, and good vibes. I knew immediately that we would be married at the Mill. Lisa and Beth were instrumental in delivering the wedding of our dreams. We are still receiving compliments about the beauty of the venue, the deliciousness of the food, and the graciousness of the staff. The cherries on top were the adjacent cottages (where our families stayed) and the brewery where we held our Rehearsal Dinner. Just perfect!

The BEST Option for RVA Brides

I cannot say enough about The Mill at Fine Creek!! Even three months after the wedding, we’re still constantly getting compliments about the venue, the food, and the staff. The Mill provided everything we could have ever wanted in a wedding venue and made the planning process a breeze.

Melissa, our day of coordinator, was amazing and eased any and all stressors and solved any problems that came up. Pierre, the pastry chef, made us an incredible wedding cake and delicious macarons. Our guests raved about the food, the bar, and our cocktail hour options. The Mill let us run wild and made our dream wedding a reality, including going the extra mile and finding the gummy sharks we wanted for our signature drinks.

The ruins are beautiful and make for gorgeous photos. The bridal suite is beautiful and perfect to get ready in. We comfortably fit our hair and makeup team, five bridesmaids, two moms, and myself and still had room for the photographers to get their shots. The groom’s cottage is large and gave our guys plenty of space to relax before the ceremony. Do yourself a favor and stay in the Miller’s Cottage after your wedding! It was so nice being able to just walk next door after everything was over.

You cannot find a better wedding venue option. It’s gorgeous, the catering is amazing, the bar is fully stocked and reasonably priced, and the staff is incredible.

Highly recommend The Mill at Fine Creek!

We had our wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek in February and it was absolutely amazing. Everyone on the staff is caring, helpful, and professional. Not only are the location and scenery beautiful, but the Mill and Miller's Cottage are the perfect setting for your wedding and reception. Beth was our coordinator and was amazing to work with. She was communicative, organized, and helped relieve so much of our stress with her calm confidence and expertise. Bryan helped bring our menu and signature cocktail vision to life. We received so many compliments on the meal, with many people saying it was the best wedding meal they've ever had. Pierre created a beautiful and delicious cake masterpiece. We highly recommend The Mill for your big day!

The Most Perfect Venue!

Our wedding at The Mill was everything we could have asked for. From the planning process, the communication between our day-of coordinator Melissa, and everything leading up to the big day, it was absolutely perfect. Every detail was worked out and everything went so smoothly. Their staff worked so hard to make sure everything was exactly as we had envisioned it. The food and our cake was incredible and we are still, to this day, getting compliments on all of it. We enjoyed every single minute of having the most important day of our lives at The Mill at Fine Creek. Thank you to everyone who made it possible!

The Mill at Fine Creek is one of my favorite venues. The staff is really on task, which is important if you want your wedding to come off without a hitch. Just as important, though, is the site itself. It is historic, with ties to Thomas Jefferson himself. The grounds are well maintained--with blooming flowers throughout the spring, summer and fall. The ruins are strung with lights so it is really just the place for a late afternoon or evening wedding if your guest list in on the short side. It is also a draw that their is a reception area on site. Again, this is fine venue.

The Mill at Fine Creek is such a historic venue and one of my personal favorites. So much so I had my own wedding here. Their food rivals the best restaurants in town.
