Rabbi Gary Katz is a wedding officiant serving the New York Tri-State area. Katz is not the kind of rabbi who will meet with you once and be out of your life after the wedding. If you're looking for a real relationship with your wedding officiant, one who will guide and support you before and after the wedding, Rabbi Katz is who you want. He will teach the meaning of the different Jewish wedding traditions, include traditions of your own or your family’s, and help you create a ceremony that reflects who you are as a couple.
Rabbi Katz has served the Jewish clergy for over 25 years. During this time he served as the rabbi for the Junior Year Abroad Program at Hebrew University. He was also the Student Activities coordinator at both the Ramaz School and the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan, and Director of the Kislak Adult Center.
Rabbi Katz offers traditional and contemporary Jewish wedding ceremonies, along with pre-wedding spiritual counseling. As part of Rabbi Katz’s counseling services, you will meet with him six times before your wedding, including three Shabbat dinners with other engaged couples. These meetings will help you define your ceremony and share ideas with other couples. Rabbi Katz also schedules “check-ups” with couples six months and a year after their marriage to provide guidance or just to celebrate your first year of marriage. You will also have the option to meet with the Rabbi twice a year for the first three years of your marriage for counseling. Rabbi Katz invests his time with couples to ensure not only their ceremony, but their marriage is filled with love, happiness, and divine commitment.

As a couple connected to Judaism but unconnected to a synagogue or a specific Rabbi, we really wanted a Rabbi we could connect with for our wedding and possibly even beyond. Rabbi Gary Katz was the answer to our search. Not only is he down to earth and funny, it felt very natural getting to know him and going through the wedding preparation process. He worked with us to organically design a ceremony to match our needs and vision. Through multiple (fun!!) sessions, he really got to know us and effortlessly guided us through a lot of important pre-marital conversations.Sent on 10/07/2017
At our wedding, Gary performed a wonderful, inclusive service. His own words about us rang so true, evidencing how much he learned and paid attention during our pre-wedding sessions. He adapted on the fly, made the audience laugh, and really helped to shape a wonderful ceremony. After the ceremony was done, he took some time to talk with us and congratulate us and has been a wonderful resource since, maintaining contact through high holidays and even family events. He's a great guy and a great Rabbi - we are so lucky to have found him. You can't go wrong with Rabbi Gary Katz!

Can't Recommend Enough
When my fiance and I started planning our wedding, we wanted to find someone to perform the ceremony who could do so in a way that felt genuine and authentic to our relationship with each other as well as our relationship with Judaism. My mom found Rabbi Gary's information through a friend and we are both so glad that she did. Though neither one of us had a close relationship with a rabbi from growing up, we both feel a deep connection to judaism and wanted someone to perform our marriage who could honor that, though we are not particularly observant and therefore didn't want to be constrained by a strict adherence to certain Jewish laws.Sent on 11/20/2018
Throughout the entire process, during which we met with Rabbi Gary around 5 times, he took care to explain all of the reasons and explanations behind every tradition, and then allowed us to choose how we wanted to proceed. We were also able to attend high holiday services with both of our families, to give us all a better chance to get to know him before the big day. The results at the end of the day were twofold: (1) we ended up with a wedding ceremony that felt truly tailored to us as a couple and (2) we developed a relationship with a rabbi that neither one of us had ever had before. It feels right that we are starting our married life with the support of a Rabbi and friend that we know we can call upon for anything we may need. We both can't recommend him highly enough.

Simply the best!
If you’re looking for a rabbi in the NYC area, look no further. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, he started googling options for our officiate. Rabbi Gary Katz popped up in a search and we decided to meet him since he had such great reviews. Once we met with Rabbi Katz in person, we knew that he would be a excellent choice for what we wanted. We met with him multiple times before our wedding and we had discussions about our relationship, life and different Jewish traditions. He takes the time to get to know you so your ceremony is more personalized and even met with our parents to make sure they were comfortable and answered any of their questions. He explained all the different Jewish wedding transitions in detail and you got to choose what traditions you wanted to incorporate to fit your personality. My husband and I even decided to add our own vows as well to make our ceremony a little bit more unique. Once the ceremony was over, he takes the time to congratulate you as a new couple and makes sure you are ok. He offers so much support during the wedding process and I know he will continue to stay in touch. I would highly recommend him!Sent on 12/03/2018
Rabbi Katz is a compassionate spiritual leader who works with couples in a sensitive manner, no matter the situation. You're in good hands with this Rabbi!
Rabbi Gary offers the whole package. He is a skilled rabbi and an excellent counselor. He also dresses way better than most people I know. If I had to get married again. Gary would be my first call.
