I meet Maryanna while she was doing my girlfriend's wedding in Seattle two yesrs ago. I was inspired by how well she did everyones makeup. (not to mention my own) I told her then that I wanted her to do my makeup for my wedding day. (even though I wasn't engaged yet ; ) Low and behold, I was married in March and she came all the way to Portland for myself and five of my bridesmaides. She did a wonderful job and two of my bridesmaids are going to have her for their upcoming weddings! I would DEFINATELY recomend Maryanna for any occasion.

I am not surprised to see other unhappy brides writing reviews for Maryana. Eventhough, my wedding was three years ago I am still very unhappy with my wedding day hair and make-up experiences with Maryanna. I do not want any other brides to ever have to deal with this on their wedding day. She was booked to come to do hair and airbrush make-up for myself and 8 bridesmaids. She was supposed to come with an hair-assistant to do the majority of the up-d0's and Maryanna was going to focus on the make-up. She arrived an hour early without any warning and seemed upset that no one was ready to start getting ready. Her excuse for showing up early was that she needed to get started early because she had no hair assistant that day because her assistant's grandfather had passed away the day before. I did not get any phone call informing me of this. I would have understood and I would have arranged for my bridemaids to get their hair done somewhere else. Instead, Maryana brought her mother who was a very nice woman but did not appear to have the skills to be helping with up-do's. Similar to other reviews, I also experienced the rude side of her personality and when I finally decided to have an experienced family friend start doing hair because we were hours behind. It seemed that she was upset that she was going to be losing money from not doing those two up-do's. The hair that Maryana did do was nothing like the pictures that my bridesmaids requested and none of them appeared to be very happy with their hair. My hair was nothing like I had wanted because I had curlers left in my hair for hours because everything became so frantic and I was put on the backburner. It was nothing like the 'beachy loose curls" that I was promised. I never received an apology from Maryanna for being very disorganized and not giving me any warning about not bringing her assistant. I hope that this review helps other brides not have to go through the stressful situation that I experienced the day of my wedding. I am not sure if she works better doing hair and make-up in a modeling type situation but her personality is not a type that I would recommend for your wedding day.

*I'm here as an honest person to share my experience with Maryanna. Please take my opinion for what it's worth*
I made an appointment with Maryanna last year to have a trial done. This included full airbrushing, lashes & full up-do. The appointment was made for 9am. I arrived at her house (this saved me on traveling fees) where everything was set up in her kitchen. I had brought some pictures of what I 'look' I was going for & she seemed to understand. Now, she could have been having a bad day but I noticed that she started becoming impatient with me. I wear contacts, so when she was airbrushing my eyelids, my contacts were drying out severely (even when closed). I proceeded to tell her & she responded with, "just deal with it".
Throughout the session, she kept scolding me to not move & when she apologized for her attitude, she said, "I'm sorry but really, I'm meaner to my models" (I do know a girl who models & has had her makeup done by Maryanna. She agreed that she was very rude). Anyway, she applied lashes at the end & when one lash wouldn't stay, she blamed it on me saying that I have a funny eye.
My overall look for the makeup was absolutely NOTHING close to what I had asked for. I wanted a natural-smokey look (your typical bridal look) & ended up looking like a barbie that should be going to a club. I'm not saying that she did a bad job. I'm simply saying that she did not thoroughly listen to what I wanted & instead applied what SHE thought would look best on me.
As for hair, I'll be honest. It was a disaster. It was already after 1:30pm & she made me feel like I could NOT speak up. Yes, I was completely intimidated by her & yes, I felt like crying.
The next day, I wrote her an email saying that I would not be using her for my wedding. She immediately called & apologized, asking for a second chance (another trial for free). I was hesitant but agreed. A few weeks later, I made another appointment for my & my mother's makeup trial. The day of, we drove all the way to her house only to find out that she was not there. This doesn't make any sense since we had confirmed our appointment 2 days earlier. I call her phone, no answer. I leave a message, no call back. After 30 minutes, we leave & I never hear from her again. From my personal experience, you couldn't PAY me to go to her. Instead, I used Shannon and Karen from iloveblush.com & they were AMAZING!!!! I highly recommend them. This situation was a true blessing in disguise. So to finalize, I DO NOT recommend Maryanna. Honestly, she shouldn't be in this business because it requires professionalism, trust, & compassion. All things that she does not attain.

Brides beware. I never ended up using Maryanna for my wedding. She was a no-show for a trial run-through appointment we had and never even called me. When I called to find out what happened she was rude to me and hung up on me. Very very unprofessional. I would hate for some unknowing bride to have to deal with this person on her wedding day.

Maryanna and her hair stylist Jill did an amazing job and they bent over backwards to be on Orcas Island by 8AM when we were going to start doing the hair and makeup of my bridal party, our mothers, and me. They left Tacoma at 1AM to get to the Anacortes, WA ferry docks to catch the 5:45AM ferry in order to do so! That is what I call dedication.

Maryanna typically does high end makeup for professional photos and film so she knows how to make you look good for the camera. She has a signature "smoky" eye that she typically does for a lot of brides. When we did my hair and makeup trial she did her signature look for me and it looked good, but I don't usually wear that much makeup and after thinking about it for a couple days I called her up and let her know that I needed to tone it down. On the day of the wedding she sat down with me and showed me pictures with different degrees of makeup. I was able to show her what I wanted and she really delivered! I was so happy with how it turned out and the pictures look great.

Jill did a wonderful job with all the hairstyles for the ladies in my party. Our mothers looked great with their styled dos and my ladies looked great with their up-dos. They all had different types of hair and she had not problems with any of them. I love how my hair looked on the day of the wedding.
