Tips and Advice
Who Pays for What?

Historically, whenever a young lady became engaged to a young gentleman, it was expected that the bride’s family would pay for the most, if not all, of the wedding expenses, and the groom’s family would contribute to the rehearsal dinner.

Today, the etiquette of “Who Pays For What” is slightly different as many first time couples are now marrying later in life, when they are more likely to have careers in place and comfortable incomes, that many couples are picking up the tab of their entire wedding.  While the parents of the groom are contributing more than in the past; a commonly used method of “Who Pays For What” is for both the bride and groom’s family along with the couple to each contribute one-third.

Family of the Bride:
•Wedding invitations, stationary
•Reception (site, food, beverages, cake, music, gratuities)
•The bride’s attire
•Photography and Videography
•Ceremony and reception flowers
•Rental fee for the ceremony site
•Fees for musicians
•Transportation of the bridal party on the wedding day

Family of the Groom:
•The rehearsal dinner

Bride:
•Small gifts for her bridesmaids
•Groom’s wedding ring

Groom:
•The cost of the marriage license
•Engagement and wedding ring for the bride
•The brides bouquet, corsages for the mothers, and the boutonnières
•Officiant’s fee
•Small gifts for his groomsmen
•Honeymoon

Attendants:
•The cost of their own apparel (dress or tuxedo rental, shoes, accessories)
•Their own travel and hotel expenses
•A bridal shower or bachelor party

Congratulations and Good Luck!!
