Tips and Advice
Here are some ideas for making your dream destination wedding a well-organized reality.

Plan ahead:  Most destination weddings can be planned a year in advance without much difficulty.  The only thing that can’t be determined is airfare but your wedding date and resort rooms can be reserved.  If you have a particular date that may be very popular, you may want to reserve this first and most resorts will take date reservations two and even 3 years in advance.

Get it in writing:  Dealing with resort planners in Mexico and the Caribbean can be a challenge with regards to confirming your wedding plans.  If you want a date or location confirmed, create an email with this purpose and save it for your records.  Don’t assume if a resort planner tells you a date is available that this means she has held it for you.  Some resorts require a deposit, registration or even proof that you are booked into their resort before your date is confirmed.  Every resort is different so it is important to understand how they work in order for your wedding to go as smoothly as possible.

Be flexible and keep it simple:  If you are expecting an american style wedding in a foreign country you are most likely setting your self up for disappointment.  If you feel the need to be over involved in every detail or flood your wedding planners email box with requests and questions, you may become frustrated with slow responses and few details.  Most weddings are fairly simple events and this should be the goal of a destination wedding; keep it simple!  Stay within the capabilities of your chosen resort and you will get the best wedding day result.
