Spread out across 300 acres and brimming with history, the location offers romance and everlasting appeal, making it ideal for wedding celebrations.

The staff at Airlie encourages couples to bring their creativity. The team prides itself on the versatility of the event spaces, which provide a canvas for a variety of wedding ideas. Here, sweethearts can bring their style and find room to showcase it. There are indoor and outdoor event spaces available, all of which are featured against the pastoral landscape of Virginia. Up to 180 guests can be accommodated for a special occasion here. Outside, love birds can express their love and commitment in the Formal Gardens or the Butterfly Garden. Meanwhile, Smokehouse and Lakeside Tent, the Pavilion, Heritage, Market, and Airlie House offer covered or interior spaces for a couple’s nuptial event.

History

Airlie House was founded by Harry Connelly Groome in 1899. The original structure was lost to fire and constructed again in 1924. Both the house and the surrounding gardens have for the most part been preserved. In 1961, the estate was transformed into Airlie Center and earned the moniker, “Island of Thought.” Here, activists met to promote positive change for civil and human rights. To this day, the estate serves as a gathering place for numerous activities, while also functioning as a working farm.
