I worked with Kay on a wedding quilt for one of my clients. The finished product was just stunning. She incorporated t-shirts, blankets, and multiple trinkets from the couple's lives to create one big family quilt. They displayed it at the wedding reception and all their guests got a kick out of the photos, keychains, old soccer jerseys, and other personal items incorporated into the piece. They planned to display it at their home after the wedding and I'm sure it's a fabulous conversation piece whenever they have guests.
Just taking a look at the Fiber of Her Being website will show you the creativity, professional flair, and fun she brings to her enterprise! When you actually view her craft and meet Kay, you are charmed by her enthusiasm and impressed by the quality of her work. This is a unique way to do something very special for your fiance, your family or your wedding party that will never be duplicated for sure!

Additional Questions and Answers
What is a Ceremonial Wedding Quilt?
The Ceremonial Wedding Quilt is a symbol of how a community or communities come together in the lives of a bride and groom. It uses family fabrics, photos, and trinkets to create a family heirloom for the wedding day and years to come.

What’s it for?
Its use is up to you. Display the quilt as a testament to your family and guests at your wedding or reception, or incorporate it into your ritual. Use it as a huppa canopy in a Jewish ceremony, or as a symbolic banner in the bridal procession. Or simply make it the best wedding present the couple will ever receive.

How do I collect the “memories”?
Ask your invitees to send you a “memory” that has some significance to them – such as a “button, bead, or trinket” – or expand it to include photographs, special fabric, drawings, poems, or even pressed leaves. Have the donors include a note that tells you the story behind their contribution.

What about Huppas/Chuppas?
You can design your own huppa: from traditional to modern, gauzy to padded, small to large. Fiber of Her Being can coordinate with your florist or venue to make sure your canopy fits their free-standing frames or poles.

What’s the price?
Usually about $55-70 per square foot.  Thin huppas with less fabric will cost less.

What’s a typical size?
About 4’ x 5’ for standard quilts, and 6’ x 6’ for huppas.

How long does it take?
About 2-4 months.  Over half of that is on your side: once we sign the agreement, you get to decide what you’d like to include, and start collecting pieces to go into it.  We can also do a "rush" basis for an extra fee.
