When did you start wedding planning?

How soon after the proposal did you start wedding planning? Did you dive right in once you got the bling? Did you wait a little while to just enjoy being engaged? Did you already have some ideas in your head (or on Pinterest)? When did you start wedding planning? Photo by The DV Image in New York,...

I immediately started wedding planning after I got engaged. In Chicago/the surrounding area, there are SO many dates booked up for 1.5 years from now. It's crazy. It's been a nightmare working with Blue Nile (I suggest NOT buying a ring online), and I have been without my engagement ring for 3 weeks now. It's so disappointing not being able to show people. (I need to change the band and sizing). I love planning things, from friend get together's and 2 week long trips, but this is on a totally different level. It's very stressful and I have been stressed out. You can't pick a venue based on date - you need to pick a venue and then be forced into a date that they have available - at least that's what I've experienced.

We had been talking about this for a while now but needed the career set so when he proposed, I had a good idea where and when due to Cal fire. Here in NorCal the venues book fast so we had to jump on it asap. Most dates for 2020 were even already taken. So yes we jumped on it but I did have ideas from Pinterest and dreaming about that day. We unfortunately have to push ours off till spring 2020 due to fire season.

He proposed on Christmas Day. We decided we didn't want a long engagement (we've been together for 3 years already) and Summer was the best time for our families to make the trip. There's was a couple of bridal shows in January I wanted to take advantage of too so I had to start planning right away (I'd say within a day or two). I also kept getting asked by family when the wedding would be. My main goal was to have a date by the bridal show so I could take advantage of discounts and, for that, I needed to have the venue. We didn't make it to the first bridal show which was a week and a half after the proposal because it took 2 weeks to see all the venues and make a decision. We did make it to the second bridal show a little under 3 weeks after the proposal and were able to book 3 vendors there. It's been non-stop planning since because a 6-month timeline is super condensed. There's no time to waste!

Well we booked the venue right away. I haven’t gone to see yet outside of pictures, so I’m just relaxing in engaged bliss until I fully know what I’m working with.

started right away, considering my job I will not have time later this year at all. And if you don’t want to spend the money on a wedding planner, then better to start sooner than later. I went ahead and got an idea of my guest count so I could look at prices for food and table vendors. Then I broke it down on to decorations and table pieces and then the dress for me and my girls and the men’s attire. It’s your wedding! Do what you want!

We have been together for 4+ years so I had my secret wedding pinterest board already. But we got engaged on december 31st 2018 and our wedding is september 14th 2019 so things have to go a little faster for us. No harm in being prepared. No one wants to be a month out and still worrying. HAVE FUN PLANNING!!!!

I feel like NorCal is a hot destination for weddings, so can totally see why the venues book up so fast! What venue did you end up going with?

Good advice!!! Starting early definitely helps to break things down and it's easier to take everything piece by piece!

I agree. We were told that a lot of the bay area and even farther down south come here because we are so much cheaper. Just grateful we got a date set. We ended up going with TBS Ranch. It will be gorgeous Smiley winking
