How much did your wedding dress cost?

FutureMrsGarguilo, on April 1, 2012 at 7:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 117

I have been having doubts about the dress I already bought. The friend who was with me kinda pressured me into getting it. I'm gonna sell it and buy a new one. I have fallen in LOVE with a dress, but it is $7,000. ...just curious to see what you ladies paid. Here's the dress! (Isn't she lovely!!!)

It's gorgeous! Vera Wang, right? Well all I can say is that you spend whatever is in your budget. Some girls get dresses for $500 and others $5,000. Dont let anyone talk you into anything....but also dont let anyone critisize you for your choice and what you spend. Mine was $2,500 and I can't believe I spent that much. But to me, I love my dress and it's worth it!

299 here baby! With all other alterations(adding straps) and stuff like the slip, I think it came close to 400. Its not the dress I initially wanted but I think I had other things on the priority list budget wise and the dress was not just at the top. But I am glad I got mine cuz I am thinking of giving it out to Goodwill or someone(though I doubt I know anyone that would want a used dress)

FutureMrsGrguilo - that dress is very pretty!!!

I had mixed feelings about the price I wanted to pay for my dress especially for a dress that I would be wearing for a few hours on one day. But then I thought it IS my wedding day after all. Why not pay the price for whatever gown calls my name? The owner of the salon I purchased from gave me a deal of 1/2 off. So, I ended up with a gown for $2,700 that normally sold for $5,500.

My dress cost $372. I have yet to have alterations.

To be honest, my dream dress was $1600 and I couldn't bring myself to pay that even though I could. The alterations were going to add up with it as well so the dress would have been closer to $2200 when it was all said and done.

I don't know your financial situation, but I wouldn't go into big debt for a dress (or wedding for that matter). Many will say to get the dress you love because this only happens once. Good luck!

I haven't chosen which dress I am going to get, however, the cost of the dresses I fell in love with range from $4,000 - $8,000. Like Sarah said, stay within your budget and get the dress YOU love.

Mine was about $1,200, then i spent only $120 on alterations. My mom bought the dress though - we paid for the whole wedding and she bought the dress to help.

$549. With the tiara, veil and sales tax, I think I spent a little over $700. Still better than what I was budgeting for. Leaves more money for shoes!

My process in shopping was to start out at David's and look there before going somewhere like Kleinfeld. I figured if I could find a $500 dress I loved, I would never risk falling in love with a $5,000 and having it in the back of my heart later.

Mine was 600. I didnt want to spend much more than 1000 because we are paying for everything on our own.

Well said, Sarah. Especially here on this forum where there are a lot of thrifty and budget brides, I feel like spending a lot on your dress is kinda looked down on here. What is acceptable to spend should depend only on what you want and are able to afford.

The price on the tag was 2,500 but the salon gave it to me for 2,100. I absolutely love my dress. I was having second doubts for a little while thinking that I had spent too much (not because I couldn't afford it), especially when I saw dresses online that I really liked and were way cheaper. However all of those feelings melted away when I went back for my fittings and was able to get back in my dress (salon was holding it for me). I love how I feel and look in it, and whenever I lay my hands on it, I can feel how great of quality it is. So it was very much worth it to me.

Exactly, what is acceptable to you financially may not be whats acceptable to others.

I live in NYC where things are sooo expensive. When I tell my fam down South what I spend on things they cant belive it! Mrs. Ohler, btw, i love your dress! Here's my love.

Yup, just spend what you can afford whether that's $50 or $10,000. I don't look down on people for what they spend unless they come back here crying about how they can't afford their dress after all because they picked one over their budget. I'm pretty frugal, so I'm not good at being sympathetic if someone spends what they know they shouldn't. I spent $1200 which was more than I would have spent on my own, but my FH insisted on buying the dress I loved. We could afford it. I just didn't really want to spend it, and it was paid off in one go upfront.

Mine was $1,800 after shipping (but i didn't have to pay taxes because the salon is shipping it to my home state instead of my picking it up here)

I don't know about alterations yet.

My mom payed for my dress as a gift, otherwise my budget would have been more like $750.
