Engraving your Rings: what did you/are you writing on them?

Jennifer, on March 29, 2012 at 12:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

FH and I picked out our wedding bands last Saturday (Macy's is having a great fine jewelry sale so we got our rings for around 65% off) and we're discussing what we'd like to write to each other on the inside of our rings.

My engagement ring has "SNUGGLES!" engraved on the very tiny size 4.5 2.5mm band.... it's a joke between us and I love it.. We might do something sweet and silly for our wedding bands but are also considering something more serious. I have a couple of questions:

1) Are you engraving your rings, what will you write inside if you do?

2) If you have what do they say (serious, sweet, silly, private joke)?

3) Did you surprise each other or decide what to engrave together?

    1. Um, we never thought about it.

    2. If we did, it would be serious.

    3. We wouldn't surprise each other.

btw thanks for the tip about macys sale, on the site looking right now.

I'm engraving his. Mine isn't wide enough to engrave because it's a jacket. It's a surprise for him. I was limited to only 19 characters, including spaces, so I just put "All My Love, Ruvia" (Ruvia is his nickname for me--it's spanish for "blondie").

@Labake O. Thanks for sharing! We got an extra 15% off for opening a joint Macy's account, that's how we got such a great deal! We don't usually get store credit cards but it was worth getting his 660 ring for less than $300 with tax. We ordered ours as a pre-sale since it the sale officially started yesterday.

@Crisanda B. that's so sweet! My mom's wedding band has something similar from my dad (with his nick name). She loved it.

@Kimberly, J. I like the idea of the date and heart too.. I wonder how much space I'll have. I think I may want to surprise him. I'm still trying to find a photo of my ring (it's 3 mm, sort of a jackted but not). Here is his tungsten ring (we're both VERY Irish so this worked well):

I found an image of my band! That took a while! It's really narrow so I don't know many letters they'll be able to fit.

"Nothing Else Matters" I'm a size 4 so mine will probably say N.E.M. lol- it's our song by Metallica and how we feel. So 1/2 sweet, 1/2 serious lol. Cute thread Smiley smile

We just had the wedding date engraved on our rings. We're not that creative.

So FH and I are huge nerds so we were thinking of doing a star wars Han & Leia quote at a couple of points in the movies they each say "I love you" and the other responds "I know" so we're thinking "I love you" in one spot than on the other side "I know"

@Rachel H. I love it! That's so sweet and I don't think it's nerdy at all (but that's probably because I love Star Wars too)!!

@Elizabeth C - I spelled it with a "V" on purpose because that's how he spells it and says it, so it's a little joke between us because I'm always correcting his spanish (I'm 100% American and he's 100% Honduran so it's always funny that I correct him). I guess I should have said that earlier. Oops Smiley smile

@ Jennifer OMG is right!! Isn't it great? It's not your typical wedding song and it's so powerful. When people ask what our song will be and we tell them that one by Metallica they give us a strange look. Wait til they hear it!!! How exciting Smiley smile

@JoAnna, that's why we're considering it too... it's powerful and dramatic and exciting and dark.... our theme is gothic-tango but we didn't want to do a tango song for our first-first dance.... we may to one as an "encore" dance though after Metallica.

FI isn't sure yet what he wants engraved on his, but in mine I put our combined initials "ACBP" (both of our middle names start with a "B" and both our last names start with a "P") and 2012 for the year we got married.

I figured that LONNNNG in the future, should my ring ever end up anywhere interesting, it'll still have our initials and marriage year in it. Kind of cool from a historical perspective....then again, I love history so perhaps I'm biased. Smiley smile

Yes, it is. How neat, tango/goth.. never heard of anyone doing that-Can't wait to see! You could do 1/2 tango 1/2 Nothing Else Matters... It's a 5 minute ish song..Start with Nothing Else Matters and then BUST out a sweet sultry tango number! That would be cool Smiley smile
