History
Willow Oaks began as a working farm in 1679 and was later sold off in 1768 where it changed owners over the next couple of years. Following the Civil War, the immediate area that is now the golf course became known as Granite for its underground resources of granite. Two union entrepreneurs acquired mining rights and began removing the stone that laid beneath underneath before the property was acquired by the Netherwood family in 1880, who used the granite for sculpting purposes. After being passed around to different families in the early 20th century, it finally opened up as the Willow Oaks Country Club in 1959. During the renovation the club unearthed piles of stone from its mining days and incorporated it into the architecture of the building, creating a property that blends the past and present together.
