Friends Meeting of Washington (FMW) is a historic Quaker meeting house centrally located in Washington, DC's Dupont Circle neighborhood. A peaceful oasis within the city, FMW is also close to many hotels and restaurants. Newly renovated, FMW offers a choice of unique indoor wedding spaces and outdoor gardens for both the ceremony and reception. Because there is no prominent religious symbolism in FMW's spaces, the venue is perfect for couples with mixed religious backgrounds or those without strong religious leanings. LGBTQ-friendly, FMW's Quaker community has blessed same-sex marriages for decades.
Facilities and Capacities
FMW's combination of unique indoor spaces and outdoor gardens provides many possibilities for a wedding ceremony and/or reception.
The large Meeting Room can seat up to 300 for a wedding ceremony. Down the hall are several spaces where the couple may separately dress and wait for their ceremony to begin. Guests may enter the Meeting Room either through a new lobby entrance or through the East Gardens. Following the ceremony, the East Gardens are ideal for a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception prior to dinner.
FMW primary reception space, the Assembly Room, seats at least 96 banquet style for dinner and may be combined with landscaped gardens directly connected to the space to seat an additional 100+ guests.
For a smaller wedding ceremony, the Quaker House Living Room -- once part of a diplomat's home -- offers an intimate setting seating up to 40. A reception following a ceremony in this space may expand into the surrounding rooms and onto the upper portion of the west gardens.
FMW's gardens also offer a memorable setting for a wedding ceremony, seating at least 150.
FMW offers wedding packages based on the size and scope of the celebration. The couple may choose to hold their ceremony, reception, or both at FMW. Standard banquet tables and chairs are included as is basic audiovisual equipment, such as a speaker system and microphones.
The venue has a food preparation kitchen which may be used by one of the preferred caterers; a smaller kitchenette services the living room area. Beer, wine, and champagne are allowed at wedding receptions at FMW when served by a bartender and with a DC alcohol license.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990, FMW was built as a Quaker meeting house in 1930 during the administration of the Quaker president, Herbert Hoover. The design includes wooden beams that were once installed in the White House. The building was expanded in 1950. In 1970, FMW acquired the neighboring red brick building -- a former private home built in the 1920s -- now known as Quaker House that is now connected via an interior corridor to the main Meeting House. Quaker House includes a combination of event spaces and private offices for nonprofits and small businesses. FMW remains an active Quaker religious community today with worship services scheduled on a weekly basis.

Couldn't be happier with FMW Wedding!
My wife Rachel and I got married at Friends Meeting of Washington in October 2019. We could not have been happier with how it all worked out! Brian was fantastic to work with. He was flexible and responsive, and committed to making sure that the evening was just as we wanted it.Sent on 03/29/2020
We would absolutely recommend them without hesitation, and we're so glad we had our wedding there.

Beautiful relaxing venue
This beautiful venue in the heart of Dupont Circle is a gem of a location surrounded by gorgeous sustainable gardens, indoor spaces that can be customized based on your event needs, and a really friendly staff to work with. I had a great time working with Brian right before the pandemic lock down. We had a great time with our friends and family here.Sent on 05/29/2020

The Friends Meeting of Washington is an amazing green space in Dupont Circle. As a photographer, I love the beautiful simplicity of the worship room for ceremonies. The outside terrace area is a nice green space for cocktail parties or small outdoor ceremonies. The back garden and Assembly Room are undergoing a renovation from Sept 2018-May 2019. It's going to be an awesome location for weddings and small group meetings when finished.
