Bretton Woods is a country club with a banquet hall wedding venue for couples in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. At this private venue, couples will find natural beauty in the pristine landscaping and pond. Couples can find this country club in Germantown, Maryland, approximately 35 minutes upstream of the Lincoln Memorial on the Potomac River.
Facilities and Capacity
This 285-acre venue encourages couples to celebrate their big day with up to 150 wedding guests. The outdoor ceremony location overlooking the pond is romantic and includes lush trees in the background. A wedding arbor can be added and decorated with flowing fabric or fragrant flowers for a pop of color among the greens of the lawn and blues of the sky reflected in the pond waters. Sparkling sunlight illuminates couples beginning their life together before they join guests for a reception. The Southard Room seats up to 60 for a plated dinner but accommodates more for a standing cocktail hour before the reception, should couples be holding a larger affair. The room connects to an outdoor patio with a built-in stone wall fireplace. This relaxing location offers views of the golf course and the Potomac River. The Potomac Ballroom can seat up to 150 guests for a sit-down dinner and features a dance floor, bar, and the additional space of an attached deck. This deck can be used for a cocktail reception or as a place for guests to get a breath of fresh air during the party. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to appreciate the scenery outdoors while celebrating the couple’s love inside.

It was truly a dream wedding
We held both of our ceremony and reception indoors in their beautiful main hall. With an hour of cocktail hour to flip the ceremony room to a reception, the staff worked professionally and quickly to accommodate a 150 guest party. Every staff had a friendly smile, and everyone made sure we were worry-free.
Most importantly, the amazing food. Portion and quality of food is always a worry in any wedding. And I've attended plenty of weddings where food was an issue. Some places are even inconsistent in the quality and quantity of food during the tasting session vs the wedding day. But BW was phenomenal. Food tasted great, quantity was very generous, waiters were quick with passing out the plates, and presentation was great! We had three hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour and the guests expressed how delicious they were and the staff even saved us a plate to try at the dinner! Every action and decision made by the staff were thought out thoroughly to best serve us and the guests.
Pictures on websites don't quite do justice. I really recommend you going and seeing the venue in person. From the amount of natural light in the main hall, to the secondary room you can use (we set up our photobooth there), to the beautiful patio outdoor with a fireplace was all breathtaking. Bretton Woods was the perfect venue for the Zhang wedding in August! I sincerely hope I get to visit again in the near future! The grounds were amazing and produced some of my favorite portraits ever!
We had our first wedding on location at Bretton Woods last weekend! We LOVED the space available for brides and the coordinator was attentive and very in the loop to everything going on. One of the best venues we've been to! We see a lot of places, but accessibility, quality of venue, space and staff make this place top notch!!! Can't wait to do more there!!
